WHAT A START, JFC
[spoilers for fate / strange fake]
Everything delivered, enkidu's entrance (THE WOLF!!), the fight-flirting with gil, flat reminding waver of iskander, flat immediately making a toy blade with the spirit of THE serial killer warm up to his outright delusional positive energy (I already love their dynamic, narita does love his posessed murder-blades doesn't he), the little girl who SUMMONED DEATH FROM A COMA (?), the mysterious human(?) saber-face, everything is so compelling, can't wait to see more wizards fucking up each other and the US government
plus the ANIMATION
the lineart is so gorgeous, the sound design is so crunchy, this is the best fate has ever looked or sounded, somehow better than ufotable, I'm speechless

FSF volume 8 preview casually dropping that Svin and Kadoc fought each other in the past and Kadoc’s anti-beast magecraft gave him enough of an advantage that Svin had to negotiate a peaceful ceasefire.
Keep in mind Svin has repeatedly been described as a Flat-level genius in CF, while Kadoc is stated in GO to be roughly on Fujimaru’s level.

hello! I saw you've watched legend of zhouhua. As a massive Minglan fan, I wanted to see that lead actor in something again... but when I started watching it left me cold. The performances felt flat. So I dropped it pretty early. What is your honest take? Should I try again? How good is the acting and writing on the whole?
I would say that if you really want to see FSF because you really liked Minglan, Zhuohua wouldn’t be the place the start. Prince of Lan Ling (made in 2013) would be a much better place to start. Or if you want to watch Guo Jingming’s take on LOTR, Ice Fantasy (made in 2016). Or my personal favorite, Jade Palace Lock Heart with Yang Mi, which I think came out in 2012.
So my honest evaluation, despite my many post dedicated to it during its run:
Cons: if your introduction to FSF was Minglan, the dubbing is hard to get used to in Zhuohua, although he’s also dubbed over in Prince of Lan Ling, Ice Fantasy, and Jade Palace Lock Heart. The much bigger con is the post production smoothing and filter team went extremely overboard, and I think to the detriment of the cast because it erased microexpressions, etc. I’ve seen BTS clips sans dubbing and filter and it was honestly better.
That said, I actually really ended up liking Zhuohua because it was very relaxing for me to watch and it helped that I had no expectations other than the fact that I’ve been watching FSF since 2011 and Jing Tian since 2015😂 The OTP dynamic (very grumpy-sunshine at the beginning and just in general one of those fairly functional OTPs) really worked well for me in particular (and I’m someone who enjoys older aka north of 30 year old characters and actors in cdramas), and there is something about this OTP that really hits the spot for me. I don’t know how much episodes you’ve watched, but for me episodes 4 and 5 are really where the OTP dynamic and plot picks up, and I did like the main leads’ chemistry. What I liked was that the characters are largely logical, intelligent people who (largely) did logical, intelligent things. That said, it’s not a top notch script — it’s clearly meant to be an idol drama that ended up going with an older cast and needed to age characters up. But it is aware of the limitations the script — it’s not a complicated dramas about social issues, and I find it at its best when it’s just the OTP interacting with each other.
So I think it’s worth a retry, despite the cons. But check out FSF’s older works first.

Hello! I was just wondering if you were planning/watched fate strange fake and some of your thoughts on it. Tbh whenever i see gil i get reminded of your account haha ! Hope you have a wonderful day too!
Thank you so much!
Hm, while I have sort of mixed feelings on Strange Fake as a whole, I'm going to break down things I liked and didn't.
On the positive side. GIL. Oh my goodness Gil. It's so good to see you animated again! While it's only been a while since Babylonia, It's always fun to see Gilgamesh in full armor being...well...Gilgamesh. And we have the interesting dynamic between him and a Master that while he doesn't respect (she's a literal child) he also doesn't despise her. And I think that one of the reasons he planned to drink the youth potion was that while he wasn't interested, his younger self has some concept of duty, and HE could deal with this mess.
Seeing Enkidu is also a joy, particularly since it's nice to see how these two interact and relate to one another. It's an interesting mention that Enkidu has trouble distinguishing between life forms. I'm not sure what I'd do with that, if anything, but I sort of plan to keep it at the back of my mind.
The battle is also amazing. You can see where the budget went, as it should. This is a clash of powers from the dawn of history. It had BETTER be spectacular, and they really went all out. I am interested in Enkidu's connection with flowers for...reasons... What's even funnier is that this was legit their saying 'hello'. I'm not sure if they were even planning to really fight.
Also, on other characters FLAT. Flat looks great. And I sort of like that his animation was slightly more...cartoony than everyone else. And he sort of works with Jack given how serious Jack is. Also the Pale Rider, what little we see, was amazing,
On the more negative side, the animation feels...rough. I might be in the minority, but I don't really like the style of FSF. It just feels...sketchy to me. Like the animation staff needed a little more time.
I...dislike Dumas' design greatly. Enough said.
I'm a little disappointed we didn't see more of Richard. I like how they did Richard.
All in all, it was a good adaptation, and it was great to see it. I...am not surprised if they don't continue since the story isn't finished and honestly FSF's plot is...a mess. As is, they got the best part of the start, and people who haven't read the LN or manga might check it out now that they have the chance.
Hope you have a great day and thanks for asking!

Yo! Sorry to bother you, but you’re like the one person I know of on here that talks about Orlando- d’you got any theories on what NP his Katana is? He and Dumas fascinate me endlessly, so I figured I’d ask the person who seems to have a good read on them.
Hi hi!! Talk to me anytime about FSF, I'm really hyperfixating on it lately so my ideas keep getting wackier and wackier!
My guess is that it's Tsukumari Muramasa, Baseless Blade Works). I think he's the Kiritsugu to John's Shirou.
And to take it a step further, I'm going to say that he also has access to a Reality Marble (or its Prelati's Illusion acting as one)--so in a way, he's restarting the timeline, so he keeps getting more and more intruders. I'm guessing each time the outcome gets worse and worse.
Speaking of, maybe Flat wasn't even supposed to be in the war, and it was the El Melloi Classroom getting eliminated?
--But, it was when Flat & Waver talked with him, that is what flipped his fate around.
EDIT: OOH OH OH MAYBE JACK IS THE REALITY MARBLE??? In other words Prelati's sham creating From Hell, and Clan Calatin becoming Thousand Faces????

Since you gave yourself up, any thoughts/theories/analysis regarding the characters in Strange Fake especially when looking at previous Fate works/dynamics/themes/etc?
I probably could talk more if you specified a character or other work you wanted compared.
FsF's two protagonists (3 if you count Tine as a protagonist) are both Masters without a personal wish, thrown into the Grail War by either duty or circumstance, and growing by interaction with their Servants. Their arcs are about learning what they want, but only after they gain the self-worth to believe they deserve to want something. This kind of arc obviously draws a lot of elements from Heaven's Feel Shirou, but I personally feel like Jinako is the better comparison example for them due to how the issues are sorted out majorly through Master-Servant interactions (counting Assassin as Sigma's Servant too here).
Tine, being a Gilgamesh Master, obviously also has reflexes of his other Masters Kirei and Hakuno. Gil's favorite therapy method is encouraging personal desire in people trapped by their greed-deterring beliefs, after all.
If Flat counts as a 4th protagonist, he plays an interesting contrast with the other 3. He's established since day 1 as a Waver foil, and like Waver he joins the Grail War for a seemingly shallow reason. But instead of being a story of facing his naivete and learning what really matters like Waver's, Fake's narrative only further establishes that Flat is the only one out of the main four who genuinely knew what he wanted. His wish to befriend non-humans was rooted in the 5 years he lived with Thia and that friendship was meaningful enough to cause significant damage to the world at large. Flat is not only the weirdo who instinctively understands the lore, he's also the weirdo who instinctively understands the themes. Because Type-Moon always weaves those two close together.
