It was a truth universally acknowledged that when you kind of accidentally got a girl’s dad killed, she had every right to cut you off. Jane Austen probably wrote that. Did said girl know Peter was responsible? Maybe not. But she did know that Spider-Man was responsible, and Peter was sort of connected to Spider-Man somehow, and she had every right to close down to grieve. He knew he had when Ben had died. Space was what she’d needed, so space was what he’d given her. And then the world had imploded before he’d gotten around to sending a postcard, so.

But out of all the people in all the universes, here they both were again. That had to count for something, right? Excuse enough, at least, for Peter to stumble his way across the quad towards a flash of blonde hair, his backpack, slung over one shoulder, swinging its way through the crowd.

“Hey! Gwen!” he called. “Gwendy, hey. Sorry. You, uh. Dropped this.” He had, of course, not thought this one through at all, and his hands were decidedly empty. He rummaged quickly in his pockets--a stick of gum, a rubber band, a crumpled post-it grocery list, and, yeah that would do. A cheap ballpoint pen, its ink half-gone. He offered it with a weak smile. Nice one, Parker.

it wasn’t every day that yelena had time to herself - playing guard at doom’s castle and throwing herself into battles at the killiseum out of sheer boredom took up most of her time. but when she could indulge, she took the opportunity. at the moment, it was with the pizza poppa’s pizza balls - an extra cheesy lump of them in the bowl she held with one hand, pouring on some hot sauce with the other. “perfect.” she muttered, primarily to herself before she looked away from her bowl to notice a dog, staring at her expectedly where she stood. it only took her another flicker of her gaze to find kate. “i think your dog wants my food, kate bishop.” she stated plainly, stabbing a fork into the pizza ball and shoving it into her mouth. “i would share but i don’t think the hot sauce would agree with him.”

Emma took a seat next to Logan. Of course she would find him in some bar with the less than stellar folks. She was already preparing for a lecture from him about how could she side with Doom, with Emma seeming indifferent if not passive to let Doom do as he pleased as she stood by and let it happen in front of all of her old friends. She just hoped the X-Men had more faith in her that after all of her mistakes and time with them, they they would know she was doing far more than that. Still, it didn’t stop some. “Why am I not surprised to find you in here?” She ran her index finger across the bar with slight disdain. “I’m sure you have a rousing speech consisting of curses and snarls prepared for me so please go ahead.”

MILES WAS STILL GETTING USED TO THE FACT THAT HE WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE SPIDER-MAN. It still flew out of him, since he’d always been rather bad at keeping secrets. It didn’t take but two years to tell his dad; his mom had always known, he would guess, even if she wasn’t around to tell him that. And even here, now, in this hell that was Battleworld, he found himself donning the costume to help someone in need. He scurried back into the coffee shop, hair a mess, out of breath, running into someone in the back of the line as he tried to manage his own breathing. Still, when he saw who it was, Miles couldn’t help but grin so wide his face hurt. “No way,” he grinned. “Gwen Stacy? Fancy seeing you here.”

At her blank stare, Miles groaned ever so slightly, heart plummeting in chest. “Oh, please tell me you’re my Gwen. The other day, I ran into a classmate who’d literally never seen me in their life and...” Miles shook his head. “This whole multiverse jazz has really been messing with my head.”
