"How To Get Away With Murder" will end after the upcoming sicth season. More inside...
There will be no more murder mysteries to be solved for Annalise Keating and her crew.
ABC's "How To Get Away With Murder," lead by Viola Davis, will be ending after its upcoming sixth season, which is set to premiere on September 26th. The series will end with 15 episodes.
In a statement obtained by Shadow And Act, ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke revealed, “Viola Davis made television history with her unforgettable portrayal of iconic female antihero Annalise Keating. I am eternally grateful to her, Pete Nowalk and Shondaland for creating and bringing to life such a smart, sophisticated and groundbreaking series that has long been an integral part of Thursday nights on ABC.”

The long-running series caused a major shift in Viola Davis' career.
The crime-thriller cemented the YBF actress a true force in the acting world as she became the first black woman to win the EMMY for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama series. It was one of two shows ("Scandal") that casted a black woman as the lead, showing a shift for diversity and inclusion in broadcast television. The series also earned her two Golden Globe nominations, two additional EMMY nominations, three BET Awards nomination, and several more.
“Deciding to end this series was a brutal decision, but ultimately the story tells you what to do – as it did here," saw "HTGAWM" series creator Pete Nowalk. "For me, Annalise Keating’s journey has always had a clear ending. Knowing I have 15 episodes left to finish her story, and the chance to give all the characters their own killer endings, is a gift rarely given to a series creator and I’m grateful to ABC and ABC Studios for the opportunity and creative freedom. I am so thankful to the brilliant cast, writers and crew for dedicating themselves to the most rewarding experience of my career over the last six years.
"I also want to thank our fans. The only reason this show exists is because of your loyalty and enthusiasm," he continued. "I can’t wait for you all to see how it ends, with twists and turns and all the craziness we love to create every Thursday night. Buckle up.”
The network's description of the final season: This season follows Professor Annalise Keating’s (Viola Davis) class through their final semester in law school – while the deception, fear and guilt binding Professor Keating to her students prove deadlier than ever.
"How To Get Away With Murder" returns Thursday, September 26th at 10/9c on ABC. We're ready!
