Honestly I do understand Orin because if my sibling’s loser ex boyfriend started trying to tell me what to do - I’d also want him to die.

Orin who felt she had no choice but to kill Durge, but she desperately did not want to. Her hands shake when she finishes her assault, and she wonders if this is what Durge felt every time the Urge compelled them. Durge - a twisted bright spot in her very dark life - lies before her, barely recognizable.
In a frenzied panic, she puts a tadpole in their brain. A foolish, childish notion - as if the illithid power might change anything. She drops Durge right into the middle of Kressa’s lab and tries, desperately, to deafen the pleas that rattle inside her mind.
Not Bhaal - but some other god - must have heard her quiet prayers. But the gods never truly give you what you ask for.
Durge returns, but they are not themselves. In the place of Orin’s cherished kin is a stranger, a monster, daring to wear Durge’s face. This is worse than the nightmares that plague Orin, this is an abomination she must end.
And if Durge were able to remember, they would know that they were not the only one that was a shell of their former self. Orin had always been more wild - but now she had devolved into madness.
In truth, both Durge and Orin died underneath Moonrise.

(flag: pregnancy, angst)
Durge who was pregnant with Gortash’s child pre-tadpole.
Durge who didn’t realize until just before the crowning of the brain. They’re terrified of what this means and how it defies Bhaal, but also (to their own personal horror) they are…happy?
Durge who smothers it all down and tells themself they’ll decide how to deal with this after the crowning because they cannot be distracted during the raid. But, of course, their mind is reeling.
Gortash who senses something is off as they are preparing for the raid. He’s snappier than usual because so much is riding on this, and a part of Durge desperately wants to tell him but knows it isn’t the right time.
Durge who is surprised to see ‘Gortash’ during the raid when they knew he should be taking a different corridor.
‘Gortash’ who gets attacked by a mind flayer in front of Durge.
Durge who saves ‘Gortash’ and is overwhelmed with a burst of emotion. Against their better judgment, Durge blurts out that they’re pregnant.
‘Gortash’ who is, of course, Orin, having a thousand thoughts race through her mind all at once.
Orin who did not actually intend to kill Durge in that moment, who was really just trying to mess with them by turning into Gortash. But now, faced with this revelation, her mind spins. It is the ultimate betrayal of Bhaal- the creation of life instead of the destruction of it. The one exception to that rule was to create more Bhaalspawn - but this child would be of Bane. It is unforgivable.
Orin who only realizes what she is doing halfway through tearing Durge apart.
Gortash who never knew about his child.

Orin and Durge Sibling Headcanons
Surprise! Not only am I a Gortash apologist and Durgetash shipper, I am also an Orin apologist. Orin and Durge Spoilers below, beware!
"You took her from me."
Orin who learns cruelty from birth and never had any warmth from her 'family.' The closest she gets is praise from Sarevok, which she desperately clings to.
Orin who has to kill her mother at seven because she tried to murder her.
Durge who had a family they loved, overtaken by the Urge to slaughter them. Lead to a temple of brutal killers and told that this is their home now.
Orin and Durge, the only children in the temple, close in age and both having just lost their 'family', finding new family in each other.
Orin as a mentor to Durge, showing them how to wield their Urge into something beautifully destructive.
Durge who admires Orin's artistry, seeing the value in her work that others like Sarevok miss.
Durge showing Orin genuine care for the first time in her life, a remnant of the time with their foster family.
Orin who truly becomes Durge's big sister - Durge who becomes Orin's little protector.
Orin who, as a changeling has no 'true form', but chooses a form that purposefully looks like a sister to Durge.
Orin and Durge, running rampant as teenagers in the streets of Baldur's Gate, partners in crime.
Orin and Durge terrorizing their butlers together.
Orin and Durge who are separated when it is time for Durge to travel with Sceleritas and miss each other dearly.
Orin who is left behind and poisoned with envy by Sarevok.
Orin and Durge who worry that after so many years apart that everything will have changed.
Orin and Durge, reunited, who slowly discover that while some things have changed, others have not.
Orin who is more unhinged, but Durge who does not flinch away from them as others do.
Durge who is more cold, more ruthless, but still demands that Orin be in every single leadership meeting with them.
Orin and Durge slowly refinding their footing with each other because they both still deeply care.
Until Durge finds Gortash.
Orin who is at first jealous of how much attention Durge gives Gortash, but then is horrified at how much she sees Durge unravel around him.
Orin who confronts Durge about their relationship with Gortash, berating them for subjecting themselves to a Banite while internally coming from a place of great concern.
Orin whose entire life of Bhaalist teachings comes directly to a head with the one person she ever really cared about.
Orin who murders Durge as brutally as she possibly can to bury her feelings, to stop herself from screaming and failing.
Orin who snarls when Durge calls out for Enver while dying.
Orin who cradles Durge's body afterwards.
Orin who fucking hates Gortash because, even though she killed Durge, she blames him for necessitating it.
Orin screaming at Gortash, "You took her from me."

Pre-Game Orin Headcanons
Tumblr media
The headpiece Orin wears is purely ceremonial, meant to be worn by the head of the temple during rituals, only. She wears it constantly now as a representation of power - to show that SHE is the new Chosen. ‎ㅤ ‎‎ㅤ
Bhaalists subscribe to the tradition of hair representing victory. Prior to usurping Durge, Orin's hair was slightly shorter. She has since grown it out as a sign of victory over the former chosen. (If Durge had hair, she was sure to chop this off, too.) ‎‎ㅤ
Orin and Durge both wore traditional Bhaal cultist attire. Orin's red outfit came after.

Crimson Mischief and Bloodthirst were forged as twin weapons for the children of Bhaal - Crimson Mischief for Orin and Bloodthirst for Durge. The weapons were nearly as inseparable as those who wielded them.
Bloodthirst was specifically modified to hold a Netherstone, which Orin saw as a betrayal of the twin nature of the weapons from the start.
But, because of this, Orin was forced to wield Bloodthirst after killing and usurping Durge. She detested using it, a constant reminder of her kin.
She called it Blade of the First Blood instead. She tried to forget its name. She tried to forget their name.

Early days of the Banite-Bhaalist cultural exchange: Gortash bringing both Orin and Durge to a Fancy party, walking in with both of them on his arm feeling like Hot Shit, only for the party to devolve very rapidly and end in disaster.

Fraternal ‘twins’ Orin and Durge - a ready womb was needed to prepare the way for Bhaal’s creation. Helena carried Durge and Orin together, with Orin as the ‘necessary side effect’ for Durge to be brought into the world.

Durge and Orin were twins. Only one child was meant to survive, and the temple did not know what to do when Helena birthed two, healthy children.
There was great debate - surely the first born child would be Bhaal’s heir - nay, the quieter babe carries the presence of the god - absurd, the larger child carries the flesh of Bhaal himself. The chorus of shouts came to a deafening halt as they all saw it happen at once - one of the infant’s skin turned milky white, splattered with blood magic.
This was surely Bhaal’s purest child.
Though dissonant whispers remained, however small. And so, the leftover child was sent away - a contingency, a backup, never to be truly needed. To be watched, nothing more.
And then, one unexpected day, came the manifestation of The Dark Urge.
