one of the funniest elements (in a very dark humor kind of way) of the Imperial Radch universe

is the Radch were like, "we're going to brainwash prisoners of war, enslaving them to the will of our own AI warships, turning them into a military hivemind, and use them to conquer the very populations they're from"

not only did they manage to normalize that

and not only did they get the population to talk proudly of how efficient it all was

and more ethical, since of course, ancillaries never do anything as improper as raping or pillaging

they managed to make their AI-piloted-corpse-soldiers a status symbol

to the point where even after they're starting to be phased out for the whole crime-against-humanity-thing, ship captains will make their boring human crews roleplay as ancillaries for clout
