after watching the movie trailer i can’t stop thinking abt how deh works so well in retrospect Because even its happy moments have this feeling of dread dangling over them. only us is like a terrifying song listening back because it’s a love song between a girl who’s dating this guy to patch her complex feelings towards a brother who she doesn’t want to let herself grieve because he hurt her so many times and a guy who’s willing to lie and say her brother really did love her to make her happy and let him into her life. art about how life is worth living and there’s still good in the world despite it all is important and worthwhile but that’s not what deh fundamentally is so seeing evan and zoe kiss at a carnival in the trailer as if that’s the point of the show feels so weird 

#i'm talking abt this on every social media i have bc i'm so...struck by it #if anything i think the fact that evan reaches this absolute rock bottom in the course of the show #and in the very last lines we get this small hopeful hint that he's going to keep living and getting better makes it more meaningful #evan doesn't discover his self worth thru all the good things happening to him he's indulging the 'i wish i was anybody else' #spiteful towards his mom and manipulative towards his friends and trying to distance himself from who he is #he treats people like shit he completely ignores what they're going through and makes so many mistakes #but. at the end he's started to change #he hits that rock bottom and he realizes what he did and he starts to crawl up from it #you shouldn't Want to be like evan you shouldn't look at the 'high points' of the story and say wow good for him #that's a guy living a lie #weird editing decisions #personal
