:0 thoughts on blue eye samurai finale?
I mostly liked it! The gun army felt insanely scary, the shogun's family were pretty cool, the action was well executed, the secret lineage and plot twists were totally cool and it all felt properly like a s1 finale. I liked Taigen giving up and going home with his tail between his legs, I liked Ringo hanging out with Eiji, I absolutely loved Akemi deciding to stay in Edo.
Honestly the only thing bothering me was how anticlimactic Mizu's ending was. The plot is that there are 3 men for her to kill, which lends itself to PERFECT pacing and seasonal arcs. I noticed this show utilized something that I haven't seen much lately (and the lack of it was making shows actively worse) - EPISODIC FRAMING. Every episode deals with one mini story to its conclusion, all the mini stories add into one larger story, and it makes for an immensely satisfying watching experience. This trend gets interrupted at the finish line because FOWLER IS ALIVE and FOR SOME REASON WE ARE MOVING THE MAIN PLOT TO LONDON. Fowler not dying was super annoying - he was a fun villain, but he needed to die at the end to make the revenge feel real. Why in god's name would Mizu choose to work with one of her targets AT THE END OF SEASON 1????? Yeah, Mizu kills innocents and ignores people who need her help, but to me working with any of the men is the ABSOLUTE LAST THING she would do morality-wise. It would have worked so much better if she killed Fowler, and then in s2 as she is chasing down one of the remaining guys, London keeps popping up more and more until she realizes that there truly is no way to complete her mission while staying in Japan. The Dad Number 3 can be her companion, which also makes it a stronger decision bc she is halfway through her revenge and realizing she needs to sell her ideals down the river if she really wants to complete it. THEN we can go to London in s3, where she fails to kill one of the dudes but manages to kill the other (if we really have to, I really really don't wanna go to London) and in s4 return to Japan bc the dude escapes there and she chases him down.
But again. This show made me enjoy like a million things I have never liked before. Maybe they will pull off this weirdass decision and I will be here talking about how Mizu in London was the best writing ever!! My mind is open to the possibilities and I wanna love it so so so badly

heyyy sorry if this is awkward but can I ask… how… graphic are the sex scenes in blue eyed samurai? Cos I really wanna watch it (it looks so cool) but I really don’t enjoy sex scenes in general and the warnings on Netflix kinda scared me off so. Like also is it multiple scenes? is it very heavy ahaha
(sorry if this is weird but I don’t know anyone irl who’s watched bes so I don’t have anyone to ask 🥲 hope this was an okay question and I’m not overstepping lolol)
No worries, security is security :) Putting under read more, hope it helps!
The show has a lot of casual nudity, almost every episode, where both men and women are just chilling naked (these are mostly casual without sexualization, but I figured I should mention them just to cover all bases). The sex scenes themselves don't feature genitalia or fluids or any kind of hard rated material, but they got the moaning and obvious insertion motions. Basically they aren't porn and don't serve as titillating content, but I wouldn't watch the show as a fun family hangout. I don't remember the exact number, but there are definitely at least 3. There's also some kink situations set in a brothel, but the physical aspect reaches kissing at most. Even ignoring the on-screen sex, the show definitely deals with sexuality and all of the main characters are connected to it in one way or another, with one of them even doing a short stint as a prostitute. The cool part is that it's very obviously a female-perspective story and never objectifies or dehumanizes the characters - I don't know if that's a me thing or a widely sensed phenomenon, but there's a big difference in my mind between this kind of sex scenes and smut/Game-of-Thrones-esque sex scenes, where the latter is pretty dirty and icky while the former just feels like something normal and natural for people to do.

Heya! I just saw your posts about BES and I am working at the studio who was contracted by Netflix to make it. I wasn't on the production myself as I was assigned to another project, but I think you might enjoy knowing that for the action sequences with Mizu we'd get a lot of real life footage references where 'Mizu' was played by a guy with a cardboard disc on his head as a reference for the hat. Also the fabric was not simulated to my knowledge on the characters, it was manually animated!
Hi! That sounds AMAZING OMG!! Cardboard hat Mizu refs!!! The fabric was so insanely good, the weight and the movement, it makes total sense it was not simulated.... Uvgghggdhdhdhdhdhhd what a projects. Congrats to all of your coworkers it is amazing.

sickening to me that despite all the heartache and betrayal mizu still CARES about people like. she didnt HAVE to give that family at the gate the comb, she cared about killing kinuyo, she promised ringo theyd save akemi, AND LIKE. if akemi didnt try to command them to protect her, i really think theyd have tried to!!!! people please pay attention mizu is sooo morally conflicted he wants to care abt ppl SO BAD
I KNNNOOOOWWWWW the reason why Mizu's entire Lone Wolf Asshole thing drives me insane is bc she ISN'T ACTUALLY LIKE THAT!! She wants to be cold and calculated and emotionless because that is the best way to succeed at this unthinkable quest, but she simply can't help but listen to her heart time and time again. The Kinuyo thing is such a great example of what Mizu is like when no one is watching. Sure, she will do the morally corrupt thing, but she will do it in the saddest way possible and it will leave her so shaken up that she tries to make up for it with doing something good that directly dooms her and a bunch of other people to death. Then she will try to make up for THAT by killing a different kid. She finds a half dead Taigen and instead of retreating to save both him and herself, she chooses to drag him to the top of Fowler's castle. There she is faced with the consequences, so she chooses to forget about her vengeance for the moment and save him. She refuses to accept any thanks for it because in her eyes, she was to blame anyway. Round and round it goes. She hates the responsibility of caring but can't survive without it (at some points literally - she would have been long dead if not for her mother or Ringo). She is soooooo tortured it is amazing. At first I thought that her ep 7 conclusion to start trusting people was a bit too fast, but then I realized that her decision wasn't that exactly - it was to make peace with loving others and needing them to survive and to accept her heart as it is, so that one day when her quest is over she can try living for something other than revenge. I love her sm

the parallels between akemi and mizu are making me insane
They are literally making my head spin. They were created as a pair yet exist as polar opposites. They start disliking each other the moment they appear in the same room. They don't know how to interact with each other because neither is used to what the other is like but they both think they know. Their music themes were composed to fit together. There is a big chance they might never see each other again. Insane

feel bad for Mizu going to London - it's so stinky over there
In s2e1 she tries to do the water thing she always does and catches 10 diseases and dies

All I could think of while watching Mizu was that thing with Jenny Slate where she says she has to make up for the fact that she’s her. Her Stage Fright stand up maybe?
“To make up for it. To make up for the fact that it’s me.”
Yeah T.T I really really loved how at first you're presented with a standard revenge story. Mizu is on a journey to murder the four possible men who have abused and impregnated her mother and then killed her. Ok. But the further the story goes, the more you realize that what she is actually trying to set right is the fact that she exists at all. The reveal that SHE was the one who just let her mother die without any reaction absolutely knocked me on my ass. She is not fighting FOR herself, she is fighting AGAINST herself. She thinks her father's death would solve her identity issues and kill the evil part of her. Sitting on the floor crying rn

I saw my MOM of all people watch Blue Eye Samurai lol she usually watches comedies and rom coms. I came home and saw that she was watching an animation, and it was an especially brutal scene. I watched a little bit with her, and I was awestruck by how beautiful the animation was, even though I'm usually bad with violent stuff. Mom said she wanted to watch it again because she fell asleep during some parts (not because she was bored, but she was tired) and she wants to appreciate it again, so I'm probably gonna watch it with her! I'm excited about it, it looks really good!
AAAA that is so cute!!!! I agree, usually I am absolutely not into shows with gore and sex (see: me still not watching Castlevania after all this time) but BES somehow makes it..... not invasive? They don't put in LESS of it, they know how to FRAME everything in a way that makes it there but not "I should not be seeing this" or "now this is just stupidly gross". Hope you guys have fun! :D

Why you apologizing for accidentslly making art for a bomb-ass ship bro
I need people to understand the subconsciousness of it all. I don't think Mizu and Akemi mesh well in a ship sense. But my brain keeps rotating the girls and their dynamic like a rotisserie chicken

I want to watch blue eye samurai so badly but I'm so bad with gory violence 😩 I tried watching through just the first scene and couldn't even handle that
Aaaaa yeah, before watching everyone consult the ratings and warnings because if you're uncomfortable with violence or nudity you will NOT have a good time... Oh well, there's plenty other great shows to watch, ones without severed fingers in the very first scene :)

I just watched ep 5 of bes with my boyfriend and we wont be able to watch the rest for a few days and I'm already going through withdrawal. How the hell do i stop thinking about mizu?? The way she so gently held kinuyo as she killed her did something to me... how did they make her so... like that... i cant stop thinking about her help
I cannot help you because I feel the same way. I have no idea what kind of an addictive ingredient they put in that character but I cannot stop thinking about Mizu Blueeyesamurai and everything that she is. The way they somehow managed to make her seem so vulnerable and gentle while doing such horrible things, the way she is so multidimensional and believable and HUMAN....... insanity. And what an episode to stop at!!!!! Straight up the best episode of the season that only makes the viewer crave more!!!!! I wish you both a very fun ep 6-8~

i decided to watch blue eye samurai because of you and im only on episode 2 but man taigen is fumbling akemi
The way they were introduced in ep 1 I was expecting them to be the cute poor boy/rich girl secret type of sweethearts, I have such a weakness for that! Then 15 minutes later my dreams shattered because Taigen was kissing prostitutes and ignoring Akemi going all in and begging him to marry her just so he could chase some rando across the country in the name of """HONOR""". The dumbest man alive fr. Hope you enjoy the show~ :3

u cannot leave taigen and mizu alone in a room, theyre always rolling on the ground trying to kill each other
They are so funny. I wasn't super feeling them until that scene where Taigen spies on Mizu fighting that mercenary, watches her win but get absolutely destroyed, THEN challenge her to a duel to the death..... AND SHE ACCEPTS. AND FAINTS RIGHT AWAY BECAUSE OF COURSE YOU CAN'T RUN OR FIGHT ANYMORE YOU HAVE A GAPING STOMACH WOUND. They are the same brand of stupid I hope they keep rolling on the ground forever

I somehow managed to accidentally dodge seeing anything about blue eye samurai until you. Despite the fact anyone I know would know that at a glance it would absolutely be my jam. Happy day happy day something new for me to be weird about.
The exact same happened to me, I heard nothing about it until my friend told me!! It is so insane because one would have thought it would be EVERYWHERE considering how good it is. I guess it's the serious 18+ rating and the lack of promotion on Netflix's part. Oh well, word of mouth propaganda it is. Hope you enjoy it~
