SHOULD YOU LET TXT HOLD YOUR DRINK AT A PARTY?
Tumblr media
✦ warning — mature language.
Tumblr media
YEONJUN
Frankly, no.
i mean you could but like only if you fancy drinking from his clothes.
bc listen, you're gonna ask him to hold your drink for while
and he suffers from an extreme case of fomo
so he's gonna be drawn to the dance floor like a moth to the light where his friends are dancing, and rejoicing
so he'd be like oh i can just hold this up and dance
he forgets two seconds into the dance floor that he is carrying someone else's drink and he spills it on his shirt.
so his first reaction when you come back for his drink is like, here open your mouth and try to wring his clothes into your mouth.
the solution of him just buying you another drink has to be whispered by someone else into his ears.
SOOBIN
yes you can.
but see, this is not the best option for your own fragile heart and dwindling self esteem.
because he will evade it
like super hard
you're gonna be like 'yO SOOBIN HOLD MY DRINK MY BRUDDA'
and he's gonna avoid eye contact like you're asking him about his car's battery warrant
it's too much pressure to hold someone's drink until they come, or whether they come or not
so he'd just rather not
and he will hardcore ignore you
and then smile at you like nothing happened
so save yourself the embarrassment lol
BEOMGYU
actually don't.
from the time you hand him your drink and turn your back onto him he's gonna turn to his friends sprouting bad prank ideas
'should i add water here?'
'motor oil, the edible kind?'
'vegetable oil is edible right? "
' beomgyu'
they will scream in unison bc a felony charge isn't on their schedule tonight
surprisingly, you come to beomgyu holding your drink alright without any tampering
OR YOU THOUGHT
once it comes into your hand you see a visibly plastic looking cockroach floating in it.
'haha beomgyu, very funny where did you find this.
' on the floor.'
TAEHYUN
yeah but like at what cost?
sure he can keep your drink out of danger but what about sanity?
you ask him to hold your drink for five minutes and the man's like okay give me 5 copies of your birth certificate, times new roman, double spaced and 10 passport pictures.
asks you of your allergies, how long will you leave for the bathroom, do you have any past ailment that has triggered this kind of reaction.
will he be considered an accomplice if something happened to you while in the bathroom bc he is holding your drink.
and all the other life altering questions you don't even think you told your therapist
so you take the drink and take it to the bathroom with yourself.
HUENING KAI
10/10 yes
i personally recommend this man for following reasons:
is super tall, he can hold you drink high so no one tamper your drink ie beomgyu
but con is that, even if a little small spider falls off the ceiling and into your drink you won't know.
but it's just an extra crunch yk
also he looks intimidating in the party's dark lighting so he can fend off people and protect your drink.
will not forget that he's holding your drink like yeonjun
or avoid you like a cold cunt like soobin
or ask questions like taehyun
he's perfect
he won't even mind if you come super late, he'd always have your drink safe and sound in his hands.

I was tagged by @elsie-writes !
This is the last thing I wrote, though certainly not line by any means, it's a whole scene, but I felt like sharing the whole thing. Sorry I suppose. Narul having his first experience with oysters in Makora.
This is from Book 2
Narul turned in a circle. Stands sold various kinds of bread, alongside dried meats, sausages, and more of that mysterious yellow substance. One particular stand caught his attention. Arranged on the wooden plank which constituted the counter, were strange cups or containers, slightly flat and misshapen. Inside each was some strange pearly white thing, swimming in a clear liquid of sorts. Narul had never seen the likes of them before, though he thought the cups were somewhat familiar. He approached the vendor, an elderly man, his hands calloused and crooked. “Um, what are these?” He gestured at the strange fare. “Oysters…” The old man muttered uncertainly. Narul had heard about oysters from Istek, the old sailor had craved them incessantly, though he had never quite managed to get his hands on them. Oysters were a rarity in Labisa, a product which required the molluscs to be shipped over great distances by foot and boat, a delicacy available only to the most elite. Hutbari had never been particularly fond of shellfish, as such Narul had never had the opportunity to see them. “Are they…cooked?” He asked uncertainly. The vendor blinked. “No?” The old man seemed confused. Narul shuffled awkwardly. He seemed to remember that Istek had said they were eaten raw. His stomach growled. “Worth a try.” Bop said with a chuckle. Narul had no idea how much a single oyster cost. After a moment of hesitation, he placed one of the silver coins on the counter. The vendor’s eyes widened. Immediately he started to prepare the shellfish, sprinkling them with some sort of dried seaweed, some sort of chopped allium, and a yellow oil that Narul was unfamiliar with. Before Narul could stop him the old man had already prepared no less than two dozen. The old man bowed and waited anxiously for Narul to eat. “Do…Do I eat all of it?” Narul asked Bop. “I don’t know, I’ve never eaten before.” The spirit replied. Narul grimaced. He lifted one of the cups to his mouth, and after a beat, tossed the whole thing into his mouth. He quite enjoyed the flavor, briny and yet somewhat sweet, the seaweed added some much needed contrast and slight vegetal note. He was not a fan, however, of the shell. He had no issue crunching through the brittle material, his powerful jaw rendering it to a chalky dust, however its taste was somewhat bitter and coated his tongue. When he looked at the vendor, the old man’s face had gone pale, his jaw was slack, eyes bugged from his skull. “I don’t think you were supposed to eat the bottom part.” Bop laughed. “Oh…” Narul muttered out loud. He sheepishly scooped up the rest of the oysters, balancing them in his hands as he shuffled away to find somewhere he could eat them. It took some time for the giant to master the art of eating them. At first he tried to place the entire morsel into his mouth, to remove the edible part with his tongue and then spit out the shell like an olive pit. He then switched to plucking each individual mollusc from its shell, though the tiny delicate bits of flesh were far too delicate and slippery, and wound up either in the dirt or squashed between his index finger and thumb just as often as they found their way to his mouth. Finally, he stopped to watch how the locals ate them, sliding them from the shells into their mouths, slurping them like wine from a cup. He dumped the empty shells onto a nearby pile of waste. The shellfish had been tasty, though they hardly satisfied his hunger. He started to look for something else to eat when his search was interrupted by a booming roar which echoed from the direction of docks. “You!”

Scrapped Charm deisgns due to high production cost!
Once available in shop:
"One Korvo Charm~ AND One Terry Charm~
(You will get the 2 charms, if you increase your quantity it will go to 4 and so on) Korvo's has blue liquid inside and Terry's has green! In the example you can see the white version that people use.
The images are mock ups of plastic milk shaker charms. The logos are semi transparent and you can see their character colors inside! Their faces are on the front, with fake barcodes and nutrition info on the back. They are key-chains and will fit in the palm of your hand. They can not be opened and are not edible.
For a limited time we will be in pre-order period where you can purchase the two charms but their production date is not set yet. Depending on how many orders are placed, if we don't make the production quota by April 30th, you will simply be refunded and no charms will be produced.
However, until April 30th, as this is for pre-orders to enable the larger shipment, orders can not be cancelled or refunded once placed.
IF the production quota is met, then you will be shipped your two charms by April 30th (depending on postage speed this may vary) and will get a tracking number. Due to this item containing liquid, overseas shipment is more tricky, if the quota is met then overseas orders will open.
-What's the quota we need to reach? 100 orders in total. I'm talking to suppliers to see about any flexibility as we move forward.
-Can I get ONLY Korvo or ONLY Terry? Unfortunately not right now, they are only being pre-ordered as a set.
-What exactly is inside? The colored liquid inside is usually baby oil. When you shake it, it usually has a zero gravity effect or air bubbles to admire."

Discussing Hemp-Derived Cannabinoids & Merchant Payment Processing
Tumblr media
In recent times, hemp-derived cannabinoids, known for their potential health benefits and versatility, have been experiencing a surge in popularity. However, businesses within the hemp industry face a significant challenge when it comes to merchant payment processing. In this article, we will delve into the realm of hemp-derived cannabinoids and explore the essential aspects of merchant account processing, the acceptance of credit cards, and potential payment processing solutions.
The Expanding Hemp-Derived Cannabinoid Industry Hemp-derived cannabinoids, with CBD being the most well-known, have gained immense popularity. Consumers are increasingly turning to these products to alleviate various conditions, including anxiety, chronic pain, and insomnia. Furthermore, the versatile nature of hemp-derived cannabinoids has given rise to a wide variety of products, ranging from oils and tinctures to edibles and skincare items.
This growing industry holds significant potential for businesses. However, it's not without its challenges, particularly in the domain of payment processing.
The Vital Role of Merchant Account Processing Merchant account processing plays a pivotal role for businesses in the hemp-derived cannabinoid industry. It facilitates the acceptance of payments, including credit card transactions, from customers. Nevertheless, the complex regulatory landscape surrounding hemp and CBD products has made many payment processors cautious about engaging with businesses operating in this field.
Despite the 2018 Farm Bill, which legalized industrial hemp cultivation, uncertainties persist at both federal and state levels regarding the legality of hemp-derived CBD products. These uncertainties have led to hesitancy among traditional payment processors.
Consequently, businesses in the hemp industry often face challenges when trying to secure reliable and cost-effective merchant account processing services.
Embracing Credit Card Payments: A Business Necessity Credit card payments are a cornerstone of modern commerce, offering convenience to customers and driving business growth. Accepting credit cards can significantly expand a hemp-derived cannabinoid business's customer base, as it caters to consumers who prefer the safety and convenience of card transactions.
However, the path to accepting credit cards can be riddled with obstacles for hemp-related businesses. Many payment processors categorize these businesses as high-risk due to the aforementioned legal ambiguities. This classification can lead to higher processing fees and more stringent underwriting requirements.
youtube
Payment Processing Solutions for Hemp-Derived Cannabinoids While these challenges may seem daunting, several payment processing solutions are emerging to cater to the specific needs of the hemp industry.
Specialized Payment Processors: Some payment processors specialize in high-risk industries, including hemp-derived cannabinoids. These companies possess a profound understanding of the legal landscape and offer tailored solutions to address the unique challenges faced by businesses in this sector. CBD-Friendly Banks: Certain banks are more receptive to collaborating with hemp businesses. Identifying a bank with experience in the industry can be a game-changer for businesses seeking to accept credit cards and simplify payment processing. CBD Payment Gateways: CBD-specific payment gateways have emerged, focusing exclusively on the hemp industry. These gateways are designed to address the unique needs of CBD businesses, providing a seamless and compliant payment processing experience.

Newspaper Helsingin Sanomat highlighted that greenhouse gas emissions in the Helsinki metropolitan area fell significantly last year.
The newspaper said that across the entire capital region emissions have fallen by 20 percent. In Helsinki, emissions decreased by 25 percent. In Espoo and Kauniainen, they dropped by 15 percent, while Vantaa experienced an emissions reduction of eight percent.
This is according to preliminary figures published by Helsinki Region Environmental Services Authority (HSY). While energy production figures have already been accounted for, HSY still needs to add new information on traffic.
HSY's experts said a number of factors help explain the drop in emissions.
Russia's invasion of Ukraine spurred Finland to replace Russian natural gas with coal and oil, which led to a spike in emissions for 2022.
Emissions also dropped in 2023 as the capital region moved away from coal on a large scale, shutting down coal power plants like Hanasaari.
Additionally, there were other factors responsible for the capital region's emission reduction, such as an increase in wind power capacity and electricity from the Olkiluoto 3 nuclear power plant.
Electricity consumption also fell in the Helsinki metropolitan area, but only by about 3.5 percent, despite high electricity costs last year.
Soini on upcoming EU elections
Business daily Kauppalehti interviewed the Finns Party's retired ex-chair — and current political commentator — Timo Soini on the upcoming EU elections.
The EU-sceptic Soini made it clear that the main issue with the European Union is where the sovereignty of nation-states ends and where that of the EU begins.
"But there is more to the EU than that, as the recent security situation in Europe has shown us very well," Soini said.
The far-right in Europe looks poised to win big and a possible coalition between the centre-right European People's Party, far-right Europe of Conservatives and Reformists, and the radical right Identity and Democracy groups could form in the European Parliament after the elections.
"Marine Le Pen made an excellent political play by proposing to Giorgia Meloni that they join forces. It's a big play, because there are up to 30 right-wing MEPs from both countries," Soini said, referring to France's Le Pen proposing last week to Italian PM Meloni that the two should ally together in the European Parliament.
Soini added that in the future more member states might take the route of Hungary and Poland, opposing the EU in favour of the nation-state, despite the threat of disciplinary measures against those states.
At the same time, Soini also said that he would not accept pro-Russian parties, such as Hungary's Fidesz in the Europe of Conservatives and Reformists.
"Pro-Russian parties are not for Europe or peace," Soini said.
Finland's maple syrup?
Rural-focused newspaper Maaseudun Tulevaisuus posited that Finns may not be reaping the full rewards of the forest's bounty.
Citing the success of North America's maple syrup industry, the newspaper looked at other natural products found in Finnish forests that could be sold to reap profits for forest owners.
While berries and some long-established edible mushrooms have served as some sources of profit, there are a few other ways for Finnish forest owners to make money besides selling firewood and wood chips.
A survey commissioned by MT last winter said that more than two-thirds of forest owners had not received any side income from their forests in the past five years.
Certain items like birch sap — that could be turned into syrup — and chaga (Inonotus obliquus) — a fungus that grows on tree bark used often in East Asian medicinal teas — are not intensively cultivated in Finland.
However, ramping up production for such natural products presents itself with many bottlenecks. For example, inoculating and growing chaga is so new that 'farmed' chaga has never been harvested, and commercial sales have been limited to the wild-grown variant.
This means that the fungus is rare and difficult to commercially replicate as a natural product.

For the first time in a long while, I got to go to a white elephant gift exchange this December! We had a low price ceiling and my practically wins out over any practical joke sensibilities every time, so on the designated shopping day I left my local overstock store with a nice chopstick set, some fancy (not at all mess-free) popcorn, and a dream.
When I was growing up, my mom was an intrepid homeschooling parent who loved event planning, valued cultural exploration, and had married into a Japanese family. Multiple times - sometimes in the setting of a multicultural fair, at least once as a kind of class party (with celebratory takeout at the end) - she faced teaching large groups of children how to use chopsticks quickly and with as little cost and cleanup as possible.
Her answer was popcorn! It's edible, so you get the full motion down, and lightweight but large enough for less coordinated sticks to pinch. It has tons of nubbins to grab and widely varied shapes to experiment with. Specifically, we used air-popped kernels, without oil or toppings, so when it gets overzealously crushed or bounces away and gets missed by a broom, it's basically biodegradable styrofoam.
What I'm saying is, this is my mom's fault. Other than the choice to draw so many hands in one afternoon on the same day as the party, while also baking a snack. That's all me. This primer was delivered in the format of a tiny booklet (if you look up an "eight page zine" that's also a method I learned from my mom, to turn single-sided misprints into notepads), with fewer jokes and tips than I'd have liked because I simply did not have time to transcribe a hashi rest fold or hairstyle. But reformatted (for Mastodon) it looks fairly respectable.
Lengthy image descriptions and full poster format under the cut.
Tumblr media
[ID: A title page reads "How to Use Chopsticks" in all caps. The words "without too much mess" are between two straight, orange lines, which start with round points at the left, evoking chopsticks, and end in flared shapes of a silhouetted splash on the right. Below the lower line are the words "by CJ Gladback." All the text is in black, the background is white but appears light orange due to a repeating geometric watermark pattern of CJ's logo in orange overlaid on the whole image; her handle on most sites is included once on each of the following spreads: @cjgladback
Next is the first spread of four illustrations with their instructions. On the left half of page are two line drawings of a right hand holding one and then two chopsticks, with the text, "The first stick rests on the side of your ring finger's nail and the flesh between your thumb and index finger. Your middle finger's pad holds it securely while it can slide against your thumb as your hand changes posture in use. The second stick is held between the knuckle of your thumb and the middle section of your index finger. This is the one you move to change angles; it may touch but doesn't really rest on the middle finger's tip." In orange, two arrows indicate the rest points for the first stick while small hashes emanate from the points pressed on the middle and ring fingertips and under the thumb's joint holding the top stick. On the right upper quadrant of the page is the text "Hold them close to parallel to scoop." A hand holds two sticks poked into a bowl of rice between the viewer and the palm; a series of parallel orange lines emphasize the space between the sticks. The remaining quadrant's text reads, "Press with your index finger to pinch firmly." This hand is holding an indistinct rounded shape in its chopsticks, with an orange arrow indicating the rotation of the index finger's tip to press the top stick's point toward the bottom's.
Next is the final spread of the pamphlet. The upper right text reads, "Practice with something medium sized and low mess like (air-popped) popcorn." A single piece of popcorn is held in disembodied chopsticks above a full popcorn bowl, with several kernels fallen to the surface below it. Text below reads, "Pick up your dishes to bring close to your mouth to scoop the harder to grab foods." An implied tilted bowl of food (fried rice or porridge with diced pieces) protrudes off the page, covering only the lower left corner. Close-up chopsticks have their points buried in the food and their lines fade out toward the right. The final black text, underlined by two orange chopstick shapes, reads, "but most of all, do what feels comfortable and eat well!" In orange in the lower right corner, the parenthetical "(and maybe knit a scarf)" is followed by a small orange drawing of a steaming bowl of noodles and sliced egg with a noodle line trailing toward two upward angled sticks with loopy hashes indicating knit fabric hanging from them.
The final image is the full booklet in its web format, with the three previous images from this post stacked vertically. Some orange lines have been added between what were pages in the print booklet, to aid reading flow. /end ID]

How to Make Potent Weed Brownies
Tumblr media
Cannabis edibles have been gaining popularity as they allow consumers to cater to their sweet tooth and cannabis cravings at the same time. It is a pleasurable method of consumption as it tastes delicious, doesn’t affect the user's lungs, and can be made at a mild or strong potency. The high comes on a little slower, and the strength can be dependent on how much food you have consumed before taking your edible. Edibles have also been well known to help those who suffer from insomnia as they produce a very relaxing high.
The original and most famous edible is none other than the Weed Brownie. THC brownies can sometimes be found at your local dispensary if you live in a legal state or have a medical card. If you live in a state where THC is still recreationally illegal, CBD brownies can be purchased online. For those who don’t have access to purchasing pre-made brownies, or would like a more cost-effective solution, the best thing to do is roll up their sleeves and make a batch. Whether you're a seasoned baker or a newbie in the kitchen, this guide is designed to make your weed brownie baking experience as smooth and enjoyable as your final product.
Tumblr media
Ingredients:
Your favorite brownie mix
Vegetable oil or melted butter (as per your mix’s instructions)
Eggs
Water
Decarboxylated Cannabis
Pro Tip: If you would like to make a gluten-free or slightly healthier brownie, substitute your vegetable oil or butter with coconut oil. Coconut oil is not only gluten-free but also a fantastic fat for cannabis infusion. It has a high saturated fat content, making it excellent at absorbing cannabinoids. Plus, its subtle, sweet flavor complements the chocolatey richness of the brownies.
Supplies:
Mixing bowl
Strainer
Pot and lid
Baking pan
Parchment paper or Aluminum Foil
Tumblr media
Importance of Decarboxylation
One of the most critical steps in creating potent and effective weed edibles, including our beloved brownies, is decarboxylation. This process might sound complex, but it's actually simple chemistry that makes a world of difference in your baking. Understanding the science behind it not only enhances your baking skills but also ensures you're getting the most out of your cannabis. Let's break down what decarboxylation is and why it's so essential.
Raw cannabis contains THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid), which is non-psychoactive. This means that consuming raw cannabis won't give you the 'high' associated with THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). Decarboxylation transforms THCA into THC, the compound known for its psychoactive properties. Decarboxylation ensures that the psychoactive and medicinal properties of THC and CBD are activated. Without this process, your weed brownies might taste great, but they won’t deliver the effects you’re looking for. If you have the option to select your strain, this will dictate the effects of your weed brownies. Indica helps with relaxing, Sativa helps with uplifting, and hybrid for a bit of both.
Tumblr media
How to Make Potent Weed Brownies
Step 1: Decarb your Cannabis
Break It Down: Start by breaking your cannabis buds into small pieces. This increases the surface area and ensures more even decarboxylation.
Spread Evenly: Spread the cannabis evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. This prevents sticking and ensures even heat distribution.
Low and Slow: Bake in a preheated oven at 240°F (115°C) for about 30-40 minutes. This time can vary depending on the moisture content of your cannabis. The color should change to a dark green color and be dry to the touch once finished.
Cool Down: Allow the cannabis to cool after removing it from the oven. It’s now ready for use in your edibles.
Pro Tip: If you have the time, put your weed in a metal tea holder, coffee filter, or strainer and boil it for 5 minutes before decarbing. This removes any dirt and contaminants and will ultimately lead to a better-tasting oil or butter without any earthy taste and aroma. You must remove the herb from the boiling water, put it in ice, and form it into a ball to squeeze out any moisture. Please note that you may need to decarb at slightly higher temps for longer. Some may think that boiling the weed would decrease potency, but it does not and your brownies will come out just as potent and much better tasting.
Tumblr media
Step 2: Infuse Your Oil or Butter
Now that your bud has been decarboxylated, it is time to infuse it with your oil or butter. Infusing your oil or butter is where your weed's potency gets transferred to your brownies. Mix your decarboxylated cannabis with your choice of fat (oil or butter) and gently simmer for 2-3 hours. This slow infusion ensures maximum THC absorption. Once done, strain the mixture to remove the plant material.
Tumblr media
Step 3: Strain Your Canna-Oil or Canna-Butter
This is the messiest step, but is essential in removing the small pieces of herb from your oil and butter. Simply pour the butter through a strainer and press any pieces of weed to extract any last drops of oil or butter that the herb has absorbed.
Tumblr media
Step 4: Mix Your Brownie Batter
Mix your brownie batter as per the package instructions, substituting regular oil or butter with your cannabis-infused version. Stir well to ensure even distribution of the cannabis oil.
Tumblr media
Step 5: Bake and Enjoy
Pour the batter into a greased pan and bake as per the brownie mix instructions. Once baked, let them cool (the hardest part is waiting!), cut them into even pieces, and enjoy your homemade weed brownies.
Tips to get the most out of your weed brownie experience.
Do not consume food two hours before eating your weed brownie. This ensures your stomach will only be focused on digesting your weed brownie and the THC and CBD inside of it.
If you are worried about the strength, you can find potency calculators online, which will help you determine the number of milligrams in each brownie. A single dose is 5mg, so beginners should start there and gradually eat more. The strength will be largely dependent on the user's weight and food consumption prior to ingesting the brownie.
Pair your brownie with a nice beverage. Coffee, milk or wine are all beverages that paid exceptionally well with weed brownies due to their effects and taste.
Invite some friends for a helping hand with preparing and enjoying the brownies. Chances are you’ll want some help with the prep, cooking, and cleaning as making weed brownies can be laborous, but very rewarding. Who better to show off your new recipe and share the fruits of your labor with than close friends!
Store your leftovers in a cool dry place and airtight container. If you made more than you can consume in a week, it is recommended to freeze them and defrost them a few hours before you’re ready to consume them for the most freshness.

The UK has demanded that its exports to Kenya be exempted from the newly raised East African Community (EAC) tax charges that took effect on July 1, posing a big dilemma for Nairobi, which is bound by the regional bloc’s decisions.
Trade Principal Secretary Johnson Weru said the UK demands that Kenya abide by the provisions of an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) signed between the two nations—a request that, if granted could trigger similar demands from other nations. [...]
The levy is imposed on imported finished products from non-member States in a strategy to stimulate local industry and production. [...]
The new levy affects a tax band of products that also includes iron and steel, edible oils, furniture, leather products, and fresh-cut flowers.
Other products on the raised CET tax band include fruits, nuts, sugar and confectionery, coffee, tea, spices, head gears, ceramic products and paints.
This means that from July 1, imports of commodities entering Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Uganda, and Tanzania now cost more.

Days 1-4 in Düsseldorf
The final chunk of our vacation was visiting my Father-in-law.
On Wednesday we got up very early, checked out of the hotel, took the train to the airport, paid an extra $90 for having overweight luggage (the only airline that flies nonstop between Rome and Düsseldorf is a "low-cost" airline with cheap tickets but you have to pay for literally everything else, so the flights aren't actually cheap at all, and they have very stringent weight restrictions that are much lower than the limits for our international flights), and got to our gate smoothly. Our flight was a bit delayed, but otherwise uneventful; I had a nice view of the Alps, and a small floofy dog was seated behind me.
Father-in-law picked us up at the airport and we spent the afternoon mainly doing laundry and grocery shopping. I also sat in the beautiful back garden (we were in the suburbs) and did some birdwatching. I saw a few carrion crows, a Eurasian greenfinch, a blue tit, and several very vocal Eurasian blackbirds. There were also several different butterflies and some dragonflies.
After dinner, we watched the evening primroses opening, which was more fun than it sounds like, and then ate redcurrants with sugar and whipped cream.
It was a lovely temperature outside but a little too hot in the house! I also had a lot of foot pain, which seems to have been a major flareup of plantar fasciitis due to not doing my usual daily stretches.
On Day 2 in Germany, we drove to Wuppertal. I was disappointed that we didn't get to ride the Schwebebahn (a hanging monorail train), but we did visit a beautiful sculpture park. It's very large so we didn't see the whole thing, but it was very foresty and the sculptures were well integrated into the environment. I was, however, struggling a bit to walk because of foot pain. It was also rather cooler than I expected; I actually wished I'd brought a neckwarmer and raincoat, particularly since it actually did start raining near the end! On the drive we passed the Pina Bausch Center which I was pleased to see. (She was a really important choreographer.)
In the evening we had an Ineptitude in the Kitchen incident, wherein we tried to make a veggie frittata, but due to inexperience with induction stoves, we had set the heat too high so we had to turn it into a scramble, and even then it was slightly burned. Ah well, it was still edible.
Luckily I was able to use a spiky wooden foot-massage tool thing, which really helped the plantar fasciitis a lot.
On Day 3, my foot was considerably better. I saw a great tit in the backyard! (For non-birdwatchers, that probably sounds weird. In the US, birds in that family are called chickadees, I think. They are very cute.) We spent the late morning/early afternoon in Düsseldorf, where we looked unsuccessfully for shoes but did buy a few other things to take home, as well as birdwatching without binoculars by the canal (apparently Canada geese are everywhere, but we also saw Eurasian coots and moorhens, black-headed gulls, and some mallards) and eating a nice healthy lunch in a cafe.
Then we dropped things off at home, and Father-in-law took us first to a cloister (where I had a glimpse of a rose-ringed parakeet), but the garden was already closed, so then we went to a castle instead: Schloss Dyck. The gardens there were great: flowers, foods, bamboo! There were two moats and a lake, and many birds. Among other things, I saw a white wagtail, a common chaffinch, Eurasian goldfinches, a graylag goose, and common house-martins. We didn't go into the castle itself, which was painted yellow. But we did buy some produce grown there: apricots, plums, and red gooseberries.
Went back home and had another Ineptitude in the Kitchen incident: after frying some leftover potatoes, I forgot to pour out the hot oil before trying to add leftover vegetables to the pan to reheat them, thus spattering hot oil all over the place. Ah well. We ate the gooseberries with vanilla ice cream for dessert.
Day 4 was rainy, on and off. We visited Wife's godparents. Her godfather is a hoot and possibly a formative influence on her sense of humor. Wife had to translate everything for me. After that we visited her aunt, who is definitely getting a bit frail, and is now both hearing- and vision-impaired.
Then we went home to pack! And today Father-in-law dropped us off at the airport. We flew our first leg uneventfully, and I've been posting from the airport in Frankfurt, as our second flight is delayed by 3.5 hours.

STORY AT-A-GLANCE
Ultraprocessed foods and drinks make up 61% of Americans’ food intake; the amount is similar in Canada (62%) and the U.K. (63%)
Diet has a profound impact on your mental health, and ultraprocessed foods are among those linked to poor mood, depression and anxiety
Additives in ultraprocessed foods trigger neuroinflammation and pathogenic changes to neuronal mitochondrial function
Men and women who ate the most ultraprocessed foods had a 28% faster rate of cognitive decline and a 25% faster rate of decline in executive function compared to those who ate the least
In addition to cognitive decline and depression, eating junk foods is linked to metabolic syndrome, cancer and all-cause mortality, along with other mental and physical conditions
Ultraprocessed foods contribute to premature death.1 But despite the steep health risks, 61% of Americans’ food intake comes in the form of highly processed foods and drinks. The amount is similar in Canada (62%) and the U.K. (63%).2
These foods, though convenient, will slowly chip away at your vitality, causing your mental and physical health to suffer. How many ultraprocessed foods are on your plate daily? To get an idea — and eliminate them — it’s important to first understand what, exactly, an ultraprocessed food is.
Ultraprocessed Foods Have Few, if Any, Whole Ingredients
Food processing spans a wide array of definition, such that a sliced apple, apple juice and apple-flavored products can all be described as processed — but with vastly different effects on your health. The more processed a food is, generally speaking, the worse it is for your health.
Packaged foods with long ingredient lists, including things you wouldn’t find in your own kitchen, are examples of ultraprocessed foods. Writing in Frontiers in Nutrition, one team of researchers explained:3
“The definition of ultra-processed foods has varied over the years and has not always been consistent. Ultra-processed foods were initially defined as industrial formulations with fats, sugars, and salt added during preparation, alongside other substances not used in normal cooking.
Unprocessed foods were defined as those that were either fresh or that had gone through minimal processing (drying, freezing, pasteurization, or fermentation) mainly to make them safer, accessible and palatable.”
While there are a number of systems that attempt to classify foods based on processing, the NOVA classification system is the most common. Its aim is to classify “all foods according to the nature, extent and purposes of the industrial processes they undergo.” Though not without controversy over its categories’ accuracy,4 NOVA defines food categories this way:5
NOVA1 — “Unprocessed or minimally processed foods,” primarily the edible parts of plants or animals that have been taken straight from nature or that have been minimally modified/preserved.
NOVA2 — “Culinary ingredients,” such as salt, oil, sugar or starch, which are produced from NOVA1 foods.
NOVA3 — “Processed foods,” such as freshly baked breads, canned vegetables or cured meats, obtained by combining NOVA1 and NOVA2 foods.
NOVA4 — “Ultraprocessed foods,” such as ready-to-eat industrially formulated products “made mostly or entirely from substances derived from foods and additives, with little if any intact Group 1 food.”
Another way to look at processed foods is by their nutrient density and makeup. “Ultraprocessed foods tend to be energy-dense, low-cost and nutrient-poor,” the Frontiers in Nutrition team explained.6
Over the last 12 years, prices for unprocessed foods increased at a greater rate than prices for ultraprocessed foods, leading researchers to suggest, “Low energy cost could be one mechanism linking ultraprocessed foods with negative health outcomes.”7 Their analysis found ultraprocessed foods are primarily grains (91%), fats and sweets (73%), dairy (71%) and beans, nuts and seeds (70%).
For comparison, “only 36% of meat, poultry and fish, 26% of vegetables and 20% of fruit” were classified as ultraprocessed. That being said, examples of ultraprocessed foods that are consumed the most in Brazil, include:8
Bread, cakes and pies
Margarine
Salted crackers
Cookies
Meat products including ham, hot dogs and hamburgers
Pizza
Sugar-sweetened beverages
Eating Ultraprocessed Food Puts Mental Health at Risk
Diet has a profound impact on your mental health, and ultraprocessed foods are among those linked to poor mood, depression and anxiety. Animal studies show that eating unhealthy foods causes dysregulation in brain insulin, which lowers levels of serotonin and dopamine while increasing neuroinflammation.9
Poor diet also adversely affects gut health, which contributes to chronic systemic inflammation and neuroinflammation.10 Using a sample of 10,359 adults who were part of the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 2007 and 2012, researchers explored the consumption of ultraprocessed foods (UPF) in relation to mental health.
“Individuals reporting higher intakes of UPF were significantly more likely to report mild depression, more mentally unhealthy and more anxious days and less likely to report zero mentally unhealthy or anxious days,” the study revealed.11 As for why, one reason has to do with additives in processed foods, such as emulsifiers and artificial sweeteners, which can lead to pathophysiological changes such as:
Impaired glucose tolerance
Increases in inflammatory mediators
Oxidative stress
Neuroinflammation
Pathogenic changes to neuronal mitochondrial function
The lack of essential nutrients in ultraprocessed foods is another element, with research suggesting consumption of nutrient-rich foods lowers mental health risks.
“When considering these data in the context of the totality of evidence, it can be hypothesized that a diet high in UPF provides an unfavorable combination of biologically active food additives with low essential nutrient content which together have an adverse effect on mental health symptoms,” the researchers noted.
Again, if you’re wondering what counts as “ultraprocessed” at the grocery store, more than 70% of packaged foods qualify. “The most commonly consumed UPF include many sugar-sweetened beverages, reconstituted meat products, packaged snacks, chips, breakfast cereals, cookies, cake, chips, and breads and numerous other packaged foods,” the team explained.

Eating Junk Food Puts You at Risk of Cognitive Decline
Your brain is directly affected when you fuel your body with junk food. In a study of 10,775 people living in Brazil, consuming more ultraprocessed foods led to a higher rate of cognitive decline — including global and executive function — than consuming fewer over an eight-year period.
In the study, men and women who ate the most ultraprocessed foods had a 28% faster rate of cognitive decline and a 25% faster rate of decline in executive function compared to those who ate the least.12
Limiting consumption of ultraprocessed foods may therefore help reduce cognitive decline in middle-aged and older adults, according to researchers from the University of São Paulo Medical School in Brazil.13 Of note, instead of using 60% of the daily caloric intake of ultraprocessed food as high consumption, this study defined high consumption as “more than 20%.”14
If a person ate double or triple that amount — as many do — would the rate of cognitive decline be greater? The study didn’t test this, but the outcome doesn’t look good. “These findings support current public health recommendations on limiting ultraprocessed food consumption because of their potential harm to cognitive function.”15
Also intriguing, eating healthy may be able to offset some of the adverse effects of ultraprocessed foods. The Brazilian researchers found that eating a diet based on whole foods reduced risk of dementia linked to consuming ultraprocessed foods.16
Similarly, over a 10-year follow-up period, consumption of ultraprocessed food was associated with an increased risk of dementia and vascular dementia.17 But replacing just 10% of ultraprocessed foods in the diet with unprocessed or minimally processed foods was associated with a 19% lower risk of dementia — highlighting how powerful even minimal healthy dietary changes can be.
Ultraprocessed Foods Pave the Way for Chronic Disease
In addition to cognitive decline and depression, eating junk foods is linked to metabolic syndrome, cancer and all-cause mortality.18 And that’s not all. A systematic review and meta-analysis of 43 observational studies found eating ultraprocessed food is also associated with increased risk of:19
Being overweight or obese
Depression
Wheezing
Cardiometabolic diseases
Frailty
Irritable bowel syndrome
Functional dyspepsia
Breast cancer
Because they’re created to be high in salt, sugar, unhealthy fat and refined carbohydrates, ultraprocessed foods are also addictive, with parallels found between food addiction and substance addiction. Among food, ultraprocessed varieties are those most often linked to “addictive-like eating.”20
But as intake increases — and persists over years and decades — premature death can result. Among adults aged 30 to 69, one study found about 57,000 premature deaths were due to the consumption of ultraprocessed foods, which amounted to 10.5% of all-cause premature deaths, and 21.8% of premature deaths from noncommunicable diseases,21 among this age group.22
Further, consuming more ultraprocessed foods is linked with a greater risk of developing any cancer, as well as ovarian and brain cancers specifically. It was also associated with an increased risk of dying from cancer, including ovarian and breast cancers. Further:23
Each 10% increase in ultraprocessed food consumption was linked to a 2% increased incidence of cancer overall and a 19% increased incidence of ovarian cancer.
Each 10% increase in ultraprocessed food consumption was associated with a 6% increase in risk of cancer mortality overall, along with a 16% increase in risk of breast cancer mortality and 30% for ovarian cancer mortality.
The First Step? Cut Out Seed Oils
There are many dangerous additives in ultraprocessed foods. Even contaminants formed during processing or released from packaging may contribute to health problems.24 However, they are also typically loaded with seed oils, also known as vegetable oils, such as corn oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil and canola oil.
Vegetable and seed oils are high in the omega-6 fatty acid linoleic acid (LA).25 While an essential fat, when consumed in excessive amounts LA acts as a metabolic poison. The reason for this is because polyunsaturated fats such as LA are highly susceptible to oxidation.
As Americans consumed greater amounts of seed oils high in LA, there was an increase in the concentration of LA in subcutaneous fat tissue, which correlates with an increase in the prevalence of asthma, obesity and diabetes.26
I believe the primary factor behind many diseases in the Western world relates to the high consumption of LA. When you eliminate ultraprocessed foods from your diet, you also eliminate a major source of LA, which is a significant step toward better health.
And don’t fall for the narrative that fake foods — like lab-made plant-based meat and burgers — are good for you. Even though they’re being passed off as healthy, these products are heavily processed and qualify as ultraprocessed. Beyond Burger’s fake meat patties, for instance, contain 22 ingredients27 — hardly “health” foods.
And while the greatest health gains come from completely overhauling your diet to one focused on whole, fresh foods, you don’t have to do it overnight. Small changes can lead to meaningful improvements, especially when you stick with them. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, commit to eating more unprocessed foods — one meal at a time.

These are the food items that saw the biggest price increases in November
While the overall inflation rate for November fell slightly, grocery costs rose at a faster annual rate this month.
On Wednesday, Statistics Canada announced that November’s inflation rate was 6.8 per cent, down from 6.9 per cent in October and September. Slowed price growth for gas and furniture contributed to the slight rate decrease, it stated in its latest price index report.
Grocery prices went the other way, however, as food costs rose 11.4 per cent annually in November, up from 11 per cent in October. September’s yearly increase also hit a high of 11.4 per cent, which was the largest spike seen since 1981.
Canadians have faced fast-rising grocery prices since near the end of 2021, as that’s when price increases for food sold in stores began to outpace consumer inflation, according to a Statistics Canada report published in November.
Factors impacting grocery store prices include supply chain disruptions due to COVID-19, labour shortages, changes in purchasing patterns, poor weather where food is grown, tariffs, and the war in Ukraine, according to the report.
Among the food items that increased the most in price in November:
edible foods and oils (up 26 per cent)
non-alcoholic beverages(up 19.4 per cent)
coffee and tea (16.8 per cent)
According to Statistics Canada, the price of chicken also rose 9.3 per cent on a year-over-year basis, due to a reduced global supply. Farms have had to cull and quarantine birds infected with avian influenza, the agency states in its report.
Compared to October, increases were seen in several categories including dairy products, eggs, coffee and tea, vegetables and fruit. Slight downward trends were seen with fish prices, dropping to 8.1 per cent from 9 per cent in October.
The edible oils increase is connected to consumer behaviour, Statistics Canada said, explaining as the cost of one oil increases, consumers tend to seek out other alternatives.  The result is rising prices for those products, tooaccording to the November report on food costs.
Both Russia and Ukraine have a direct role in agriculture and oil production. As well, Russia is the largest exporter of wheat globally and Ukraine is the fifth-largest, resulting in “price volatility” due to the war, according to Statistics Canada.

What are the extraction methods for CBD oils?
Tumblr media
Supercritical method, cold pressing, vegetable oil, solvent… So many terms that qualify the manufacture of CBD products. But what reality is hidden behind each of these practices? Is there a fundamental difference between CBD products extracted in this way or that way? What is the best mode of extraction? In this blog, you will explore the manufacture of CBD and its impact on the different CBD oils.
The origin of CBD
CBD (cannabidiol) is a molecule naturally present in hemp and known for its relaxing effects. A notable property of CBD is its lipophilic character. Chemically, CBD can only bind to fat or oil. Thus, it is not soluble in water. In order to transform CBD into oil, there are several Cannabis extraction methods, more or less natural, each with its own taste and specificities.
Extraction methods to create CBD oil
Let's review the four main methods of extracting CBD: supercritical extraction (1), cold pressing extraction (2), vegetable oil extraction (3), and extraction. by solvent (4).
1. Supercritical CO2 extraction
CO2 extraction aims to create phase changes (state of matter) in the CO2 and make it reach a so-called supercritical state. This process makes it possible to extract CBD while maintaining the number of terpenes in the plant material (CBN, CBG, etc.). Manufacturers favor this method for its efficiency and relative simplicity: no use of solvents or chemicals could alter the product's purity. However, CBD oil extracted with supercritical CO2 must be reprocessed to remove all traces of THC, which requires laboratory intervention.
CO2, a non-volatile element, is also already used in several industries wishing to control the concentration of a molecule, such as coffee and essential oils. At the end of the process, the CO2 is condensed and stored for reuse. Nothing is lost; everything is reused!
Thus, supercritical extraction is often used for the creation of rich and flavorful Full Spectrum CBD oils.
2. Cold Press Extraction
CBD extraction is often done cold for the same reason: to maintain a natural result while retaining the taste of the terpenes.
With the cold-press cannabis cbd oil extraction equipment, you can run the frozen hemp flowers through a press yourself and extract the CBD and terpenes as low-CBD hemp oil. It is a simple and ecological method to produce your own CBD. Disadvantage? It is not a very effective method when it comes to cannabidiol… Indeed, it takes a lot of hemp flowers to produce little CBD. This is why, apart from edible hemp oil, you will not find or find very few cold-pressed CBD oils on the market.
3. Vegetable oil extraction
Another DIY method, vegetable oil extraction, involves using hot oil to extract CBD from hemp. Instead, use olive, sesame, or coconut oil. This natural method makes it possible to produce tasty CBD oil. But the problems associated with artisanal extraction remain: you need a lot of hemp for little product; moreover, the hot oil may damage the molecules you are trying to extract.
4. Solvent extraction
The hemp is bathed in a solvent in order to extract the CBD. The solvent can be either ethanol, butane, or propane. By heating the liquid, the solvent evaporates, and only the CBD oil remains. The aforementioned solvents are flammable, even explosive; this process is reserved for knowledgeable chemists and CBD Growers.
What is the best CBD oil extraction method?
Supercritical extraction is the most effective way to produce natural, flavor-rich CBD oil. When cold, it keeps the CBD and terpenes pure, does not alter molecules, and uses no solvents, although a second treatment may be required to achieve less than 0.2% THC in the final bottle.
Very effective, it uses a minimum of hemp for a maximum of oil. Finally, ecologically, it reuses CO2 and requires very little energy for high yields. Artisanal extraction may have its charm, but supercritical extraction remains the most efficient and guarantees cost control for both the producer and the consumer.

It is my name day. Just ordered hair color. It cost me nearly 20 euros. I am bronk now. Im gonna have to go to the post office. But alas, I will have slightly different green hair. I should try yellow next, it will wash out easily but thats ok, at least i can go back to green sooner if i wont like it. I did a tarot reading today and it confused the hell out of me. I did a two-card spread, first card representing my strength and second representing my weakness. The first card was the magician reversed, implying that my strenght is manipulating people? Which like. Is that really a strenght? Idk man im just starting out with tarot. And the second card was six of pentacles upright. Which i interpreted as me spending money too easily which, well, yeah. That fits. I have had a pretty good lazy day. I need to buy sunflower oil, my own eggs, rice, two packs of cereal and detská výživa. Oh and piškóty. I need to check if my toast bread and corn bread is edible. If they arent, i need to buy new ones and actually use them. Preferably in Tesco and not Lidl. Im worried for my friends. I have a feeling my dad wants to pick out a new name for me. I wont let him.
