Grace Jones
Grace Beverly Jones (born 19 May 1948??) is a model, singer and actress. Born in Jamaica, she and her family moved to Syracuse, New York, when she was a teenager. Jones began her modeling career in New York state, then in Paris, working for fashion houses such as Yves St. Laurent and Kenzo, and appearing on the covers of Elle and Vogue. She notably worked with photographers such as Jean-Paul Goude, Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin, and Hans Feurer, and became known for her distinctive androgynous appearance and bold features.
Her grandfather, John Williams, was also a musician and played with Nat King Cole. Her father, Bishop Robert Winston Jones, moved the family to CNY and founded the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in Syracuse. Jones' brother is megachurch preacher Bishop Noel Jones, who starred on the 2013 reality show Preachers of LA.
Through her relationship with longtime collaborator Jean-Paul Goude, Jones has one son, Paulo. From Paulo, Jones has one granddaughter.
Jones attended Central High School in Syracuse. She claims she doesn't know how old she is. Although some sources say she was born in 1948, Jones says she graduated early from Central High School in Syracuse in 1967; she was around 15 years old, ahead of most of her peers due to more rigorous education at an early age in Jamaica. She also studied theater at Onondaga Community College.
Beginning in 1977, Jones embarked on a music career, securing a record deal with Island Records and initially becoming a high-profile figure of New York City's Studio 54-centered disco scene. In the early 1980s, she moved toward a new wave style that drew on reggae, funk, post-punk, and pop music, frequently collaborating with both the graphic designer Jean-Paul Goude and the musical duo Sly & Robbie. She scored Top 40 entries on the UK Singles Chart with "Private Life", "Pull Up to the Bumper", "I've Seen That Face Before", and "Slave to the Rhythm". In 1982, she released the music video collection A One Man Show, directed by Goude, which earned her a nomination for Best Video Album at the 26th Annual Grammy Awards. Her most popular albums include Warm Leatherette (1980), Nightclubbing (1981), and Slave to the Rhythm (1985).
As an actress, Jones appeared in several indie films prior to landing her first mainstream appearance as Zula in the fantasy-action film Conan the Destroyer (1984) alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sarah Douglas, and subsequently appeared in the James Bond movie A View to a Kill (1985) as May Day, and starred as a vampire in Vamp (1986); all of which earned her nominations for the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress. In 1992, Jones acted in the Eddie Murphy film Boomerang, and contributed to the soundtrack. She also appeared alongside Tim Curry in the 2001 film Wolf Girl.

I Emmanuel Katto shares Uganda's Thriving Music and Dance Scene: From Traditional to Contemporary
Uganda, a country in the center of East Africa, is home to many different cultures and traditions. The music and dance scene there is one of the liveliest examples of this diversity. Uganda's music and dance culture is an enthralling voyage through time and tradition, as a Uganda’s native and journalist I, Emmanuel Katto always enjoyed the indigenous rhythms resonating through the hills and the throbbing beats of modern Afro-pop.
Tumblr media
Celebrating Tradition: The Musical and Dance Traditions of Uganda
Uganda is home to a wide variety of ethnic groups, all of whom have a strong cultural connection to the country's traditional music and dance. Many groups, such the Baganda, Bakiga, Banyankole, and others, have distinctive musical traditions that are frequently accompanied by dance displays that depict their culture's history, heritage, and daily life.
The rhythmic foundation of these performances is provided by traditional instruments like the adungu, engalabi, and ndingidi. Musicians and dancers dress colorfully to express their pride in their culture. As a result of the colorful energy of these performances, Uganda's cultural festivals attract tourists from all over the world.
The Development of Modern Ugandan Music
Uganda's current music sector is creating waves both locally and globally, in my opinion as a journalist, I Emmanuel Katto aka Emka Uganda would like to say that even if traditional music is still a treasured component of the nation's cultural heritage. Ugandan musicians have perfected the blending of traditional music with contemporary rhythms, resulting in a distinctive and contagious musical style that crosses national boundaries.
Afrobeat, dancehall, and reggae are three genres that are hugely popular in Uganda's modern music industry. Not only in Uganda but also throughout Africa and beyond, musicians like Eddy Kenzo, Sheebah, and Bobi Wine have become household names. In a world that is changing quickly, their music frequently addresses societal concerns through narrating tales of tenacity, love, and hope.
The Dance Revolution
An essential component of Ugandan music culture, the Dance Revolution Dance has seen substantial development in the modern music scene. Ugandan dancers are pushing the limits of creativity and expression with everything from traditional dances like the Bakisimba and Ekitaguriro to contemporary dancehall and hip-hop routines.
Dance competitions and showcases have grown in popularity, giving budding dancers a place to present their talents. Traditional and modern dance styles have been combined to create a distinctive kind of dance that enthralls audiences with its vitality and inventiveness.
Conclusion!
The thriving music and dance industry in Uganda reflects the nation's cultural variety and creative development. Although Ugandan musicians have been propelled into the world stage by the modern music industry, traditional music and dance are still valued traditions. Uganda's music and dance culture is a dynamic force that keeps evolving and captivating audiences throughout the world because to the blend of old and new, tradition and creativity. Therefore, Uganda has something to offer any music and dance fan, whether you're tapping your feet to the beats of traditional drums or dancing to the beats of modern Afro-pop. It's a celebration of the traditional and modern, old and new—a harmonious symphony of civilizations.

'Nuclear war is, understandably, a very serious subject – and thus, apt material for Very Serious Director Christopher Nolan in Oppenheimer. You can't blame its stars in Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr (and the rest of the cast, tbh) for doing the complete opposite of the sugar rush in Barbie. Few cheesy grins, fewer bright pink two-pieces, and a zero tolerance policy for peroxide. But that hasn't stopped Murphy and Downey Jr from pulling off a menswear set piece that stands toe-to-toe with any pink fonted T-shirt tribute to Greta Gerwig.
Peaky Blinders alum Murphy, who takes on the lead role of the nicotine-charged godfather of the atomic bomb Robert Oppenheimer, made a rare return to the carpet. And together, the two veteran actors had a little bit of fun with their fits, and doubled-down on the matching. For Downey's tonal fit, it was a deep navy tie with a matching suit and black shirt, and for Murphy, a camel shirt with an identical tie (from Prada). It's simple, and also a razor-sharp set piece for a film that's ostensibly more about big orchestral climaxes than big menswear moves.
And the tie and shirt tag team formula is something that we're seeing a lot more of among their contemporaries. Jeff Goldblum has been doing it, rocking his go-to blush Prada shirts with a matching pink tie on the Asteroid City press tour. Aussie actor Kodi Smit-McPhee wore a pale gold shirt and matching tie to the Prada show in June, while Barry Keoghan wore a cream suit and ivory tie to the SAG Awards earlier this year. Eddie Redmayne wore a full Saint Laurent fit, which featured a crisp white shirt and an oversized white bow tie.
As always, it's trickle down fashionomics from the storied brands. For Valentino's Spring/Summer 2024 collection, creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli sent models down the open-air catwalk white shirt-white tie, burgundy shirt-burgundy tie and grey polo neck-melange grey tie combos. British-Italian label Jordanluca had models wear white office shirts with ivory ties, while Kenzo's striped shirts were complemented by corresponding collegiate ties. At Prada too, matching shirts and ties were the order of the day.
Now, even Oppenheimer is making moves for the trend du jour. See. Very serious stuff.'
