It really is crazy that if you speak Russian and Polish you can just read an article in Ukrainian with more or less normal speed + comprehension

Vogel's psychoanalytic critique of Wanda Melcer's Czarny Ląd: Warszawa reportage cycle was published in Przegląd Społeczny, which Stefania absolutely would have read; Maurycy Berensztejn compared Stef's descriptions of the Kraków Jewish district in Korzenie with Wanda Melcer's descriptions of Warsaw in two (2) separate reviews; however, they are from Jan's perspective, and I believe Stef deliberately ascribes to him (szlachta guy not wholly convinced of his own purported progressive beliefs) a POV/language that echoes Melcer's IN ORDER to make, via literary rather than polemical means, the same sociological-psychoanalytic critique that Vogel makes in Przegląd Społeczny

I am reading this right now and would love to read more articles like it - accounts of what people were reading and what was published and what was reviewed where and when!!! This is My Bullshit in the extreme

immediate echolalic template - inverted commas, like vogel's white words, to denote/demarcate a purely utilitarian phrase, so overused as a cliche or discursively circumscribed it had become wholly instrumental and voided of meaning!!! - '"as a survivor" of actual child abuse i have the moral and epistemic authority to tell you to shut the fuck up'

Zbigniew Grabowski in London writing a letter to the Wiadomości editors, uh, very disturbingly full of praise for the "high culture" of the Third Reich in [checks notes] 1938:
Debora Vogel, in her 1934 essay "Ludzkie egzotyki" that also sharply criticizes Wanda Melcer's "Dark Continent -- Warsaw" reportage series for Wiadomości about the Jewish district, opens with this note on Grabowski's glowing review of a recently-published African travelogue, colonialism, and the concept of race:
