[Another video is attached, still atop the Bell Tower in Ecruteak City. To say that Solaire looks concerned is a massive understatement.
"A... Master Ball," the Ho-oh repeats. "I do not like the sound of that."
"Nor do I," Maria agrees. "Professor Elm mentioned them before; he'd happened to get his hands on one, as he told it, and offered it to me as a congratulatory gift for winning every badge in Johto. I declined, based on the description he provided me with. I never saw what they looked like."
"Not until now." Solaire sounds thoughtful.
"No. Not until now." Maria frowns at the offending Master Ball, then tucks it away into her bag. "Better to keep it until I'm certain whether it is functional or not, I suppose. I would not want it to fall back into the hands of... Team Rocket?"
Solaire nods slowly. "Suicune was watching from a distance. The human who threw it at me, by her own description, was wearing primarily black and a... I'm sorry, what is that head covering of yours called again?"
Maria blinks. "My hat?"
"That's the word, yes. They were wearing a hat not unlike yours."
"Well, it certainly wasn't Silver." Her frown deepens. "I suppose most of the grunts were wearing hats, too, but I wouldn't describe them as like mine—"
"Not one of theirs," Ho-oh clarifies. "Suicune was quite adamant about that. She stole one of those hats for herself shortly after the first ones arrived."
"Interesting," Maria says.
(The camera shakes a little. Seems the cameramon, at least, is amused by that.)
"...Giovanni was wearing a hat," she says, after some hesitation.
"Would that be the human who—"
"Yes. Yes, he was."
Solaire's eyes narrow. "I see."
Maria tugs the brim of her own hat down a little, as if to ineffectually conceal her eyes, and says, "Moving on. The professor said that Master Balls were rare, but if Team Rocket was able to acquire one, it is a safe assumption to make that they could acquire more."
"It is, yes."
"You should be careful. Suicune, too. As well as the others—"
"Suicune did not seek me out because of the Master Ball," Solaire interrupts. "Suicune sought me out because she typically meets with her siblings once a year, in a particular place, and that none of them ever miss this meeting."
"Ah," Maria says.
"I was not aware that they met up so often before Suicune informed me of this. Nevertheless..."
"...Entei and Raikou weren't there?" Maria asks, without much hope.
Solaire doesn't respond audibly. They merely nod instead.
"Ah," Maria says.
"I hope that it is because they are choosing to lie low," Solaire says. "I fear that this is not the case. Suicune is remaining close, and of the trio she has always been the stealthiest..."
"With all due respect," Maria says, "you are not stealthy."
"I am quite aware. Team Rocket may have been driven out of Johto, but the Johto region and the Kanto region were not always so separate, so strictly delineated... and, if these humans have targeted my kin, then they have made it quite personal."
"I will find them. Free them, if they are imprisoned."
"You need not do so alone," Ho-oh says.
"...What might you mean by that?"
"Though I am far from familiar with the inner machinations of your 'Pokéballs'," Solaire says, "I would presume that even a Master Ball cannot capture a Pokémon that is already registered to a different ball. Am I incorrect?"
"I don't believe so, no. The professor did mention that, though I'm reasonably certain it was primarily because he was as bitter towards Team Rocket as I and he simply wanted to further insult them."
"An understandable sentiment." Solaire hums to themself. "The ideal solution may be, then, for a trusted human to capture me in one before Team Rocket can."
Maria blinks once. Twice. Several more times, as she processes this.
"Are you asking me to?"
"Not yet," says the Legendary. "While I would not consider myself to be much of a fighter, you most certainly are, and your fervor is intriguing. You are preparing to face a difficult challenge imminently, yes?"
"Yes. Soon." Maria breathes in. Breathes out. "If I win, I can use the power of the Pokémon League to bring Team Rocket to heel in Kanto, too. I don't intend on losing. I expect it will be close, regardless of how much I prepare."
Solaire considers this. "Then face me as you would any other Pokémon. Face me in battle. I have witnessed your strength of heart, your strength of character; I would witness your strength of arms."
Maria almost smiles as she reaches for a Pokéball. "Well, if you insist..."
The video ends.]
