So the thing with the Overseer is that he loves his family, and they’re all dead, and he needed to bring them back. And he reanimated the bodies but not the soul or the personality or whatever. And he’ll never be able to accept that it isn’t really them, because nothing comes back from death twice, and if he failed to bring them back the first time then everything he’s ever done has been for nothing, and they’re gone forever and he’ll never get them back. So they’re back to life (sort of) and they’re bonded with him (through necromancy, but also through the hive-minded nature of a group of grotles) and he loves them and they’re his family and they’ve always been these empty hollow husks and his mind and his fundamental belief systems are completely warped and wrapped around these ideas. And he’ll never let himself believe otherwise. He’ll lie and deny and twist himself in knots as long as it lets him believe. And he’ll never ever stop.

#the overseer #the lizard crew #btw a grotle is a large heavily armored reptile #they live in tight-knit family units called ‘groves’ and form low-level hive-mind/psychic bonds #they rely on these bonds to live and will die without them #the overseer’s position as champion (basically a demigod) and his connection to his undead minions through necromancy keeps the overseer #alive without a proper grove. naturally he takss this as undeiable proof that his family is Normal and Fine and Alive Actually #and no i don’t know how they died. probably illness i guess?? #whatever the point is that the overseer is my edgy little boy and i love him dearly #even though he also wants world domination with almost all currently and formerly living beings as his undead thralls #hope you enjoyed me rambling about my little wretched bastard man i love him dearly #maybe i’ll talk about eityr or amaldyne next #i was thinking ‘bout the overseer’s backstory cause I was imagining an animatic of it set to coyote #(by mako) #but it’s mostly been eityr and/or amaldyne on the brain #drakkus sometimes also but i think i need a slightly more coherent grasp of his character #also eityr and amaldyne’s horrific nightmare cesspool friendship is fascinating to me
