Cozy games recommendations! part 2
As I promised here is another one bunch of cozy games. This time it's not stardew-like only.
Carto
Tumblr media
PC, PS, iOS, Xbox, Nintendo switch (I've completed it for 8.5 hours without any rush)
I don't really see this game in lists of recommended cozy games, but it really deserves to be mentioned! It has interesting concept and beautiful art style. You're playing as a kid, who can change landscape by making changes in their map. You've lost from you grandma, you're trying to find her and all map pieces that were lost. It's a bit of a puzzle, you're travelling through different areas and see different people. It's quite short, but I loved it a lot.
Potion Craft
Tumblr media
PC, PS, iOS, Xbox, Nintendo switch (I've played for 32 hours. There are still things to do and developers still release new content)
You're and alchemist in medieval kind of town. You need to create potions according to customer's request (there is no time limit, so don't worry about it). Brewing potions has it's own mechanics, which is easy to get used to. There is no plot, just some optional goals. The final one appears to be creating philosopher's stone. This is a kind of a repetitive game kill some time.
Unpacking
Tumblr media
PC, PS, iOS, Xbox, Nintendo switch (I've played for 8 hours)
You're a person going through different stages of life. There are boxes with personal stuff to unpack and to put in places the way you want to. And I've just realized that "Unpacking" isn't just about things, but also about person's own life and problems, which is shown quite subtle. It's very relaxing and cozy
Cloud Gardens
Tumblr media
PC, PS, iOS, Xbox, Nintendo switch (I have about 8 hours, but there are still things to do)
The world seems to be post-apocalyptical and you're helping the life to thrive again. Place plants to overgrown ruins and trash to create better scenery. If you love this kind of post-apocalyptical view, you'll like it. Just relax and pick places for plants to grow
Dorfromantik
Tumblr media
PC, Nintendo switch (I have about 16 hours)
Place tiles with few rules to create as big area as possible. No plot or quests, just beautiful landscape to create. Apparently there is also a board Dorfromantik game, but I haven't tried it
PowerWash Simulator
Tumblr media
PC, PS, iOS, Xbox, Nintendo switch (I have about 120 hours)
You basically just washing different surfaces with pressure washer, but it's really satisfying. There are stories from customers and missing cat, but I usually got too involved in washing process to track them. There is coop mode and paid additional content, but there is enough locations if you don't want to pay extra
Storyteller
Tumblr media
PC, iOS, Android, Nintendo switch (I have about 4 hours)
You have a book to fill with stories. You can create ones that asked to be completed or create some weird stories. All you have is a page, characters, scenes and actions to create your fable. I've created number of gay marriages and game allowed me to 😄
What's your definition of cozy game? I have some more to share, but they don't always match the "cozy" term, so I'd love to hear your opinion

The Steam Deck
So i got the Steam Deck now, the cheapest one, and it's really fun It's particularly fun for indie games such as roguelites and tower defence games I've been particularly enjoying Hades, Kingdom: Two Crowns, and Dorfromantik But to my surprise, it was even able to run games like Mordor: Shadow of War at 60 FPS (albeit with some small hiccups when loading some stuff)
The Steam Deck is basically replacing my Nintendo Switch as my indie machine now, and the Steam sales (such as the winter sale right now) make buying games for it a lot easier It also comes with the benefit of having my 12 year PC backlog, for the most part, and let me tell you, it is really strange being able to play Sonic Adventure 2 on the go, i mean, that was my childhood game, and yet, this device can just...do it, it's nice, it's very versatile

Already beat my high score from last night. This game is ridiculously addictive.
Helps that I’m getting better at paying attention to flag quests They generally show up after you complete one of the “get this type of place to have (at least) x many things of type” quests, and involve closing off the edges of that type of place. Which can get interesting because you’re also still getting the previous variety of quests, but for even larger numbers of that type of thing, so there’s a tendency to abort closing off the area and instead incorporate it into the new “x many things of type” quest. Which sometimes leads to you having multiple high number “x of type” and flag quests all attached to the same sprawl of tiles.
Like, see the huge labyrinthine forest in the upper left of that map? At one point that was three or four disconnected areas of forest* with a bunch of both counting and flag quest types, and then I started linking them up to finish all the very high count “have a forest of at least x many trees” quests in them, and every time I linked in another and it finished those, I got relevant flag quests, plus once they were all linked it turned out there was maybe three tiles I had left to block off to close the edges. I went from only having about 3 tiles left at one point to having almost 50. Likewise you can see that I was building multiple disconnected waterways instead of trying to keep them all joined up.
* - disconnected because if you get a tile with a quest for a specific number of trees or fields or houses or whatever (instead of getting one with a quest for at least that number) you might have to start a new area of them if your existing area(s) are already above that value. After you reach the specified value you're okay to link it up to others of that type, so it’s worth building it near an area where you already have an “at least” quest building up so you can just link it up and fold it into that area.
Anyway, that forest? Got me the “have a forest with at least 1,000 trees” achievement. Yay.

Game Idea:
Silent Hill inspired citybuilder game, where the fog is a mechanic that hides certain buildings and infrastructure depending on the last piece you placed, like a game of concentration mixed with Dorfromantik, there could be action tiles that make things more on brand as well. Although, I don't know how well psychological horror would translate to a relaxing hexomino game.
