One Destiny 2 headcanon I’ve always had is that the Vanguard has now had to set up a very specific set of rules for all Guardians that are 90% caused by shit the Young Wolf has done.

They include but are not limited to:

1. Do not Strand grapple to ships as they leave the hangar. This is directed to one person and one person only. You know exactly who you are.

2. Don’t give random kinderguardians Gjallarhorns. We do not need to build a third Tower

3. Stop telling New Lights ‘kys’ means ‘keep yourself safe’. Crow is still running from Osiris

4. Do not use multiple fire extinguishers as a replacement engine on Sparrows, especially while INSIDE the Tower.

5. Do not use fire extinguishers as ‘jetpacks’ either

6. All fire extinguishers are now off limits to The Young Wolf. Please report any missing ones to the Vanguard

7. Do not create a ‘pigeon army’, lead them to the Tower, throw a bag of bird seed on the ground and then leave. Seriously I have never seen this many pigeons in one place before. Wolf where did you get this many pigeons

8. If you set off fireworks in the Tower, don’t let them fall over please

What do Hunters get you might ask? Well that's simple: They have each other! It goes:

• meet under unlikely circumstances

• develop lifelong bond

• get into a stupid mess

• one of them dies in (or as a consequence of) said stupid mess

• the one left alive gets super traumatized, has a huge change to their entire personality makes the death become their main driving force, and then waits until they meet a new hunter so they themselves can die in a stupid mess and continue the cycle!

You know, Guardians being brought back to life probably sucks. When you die your blood vessels collapse, your gastrointestinal system goes feral, and every working organ in your body stops working. And then their Ghost brings them back. Their entire body has to do a factory reset. I could imagine Guardians feeling like an absolute piece of shite after they’re revived, and it adds another little hint of mortality and vulnerability to their otherwise immortal and unshakable character. (And I like vulnerability)

yes the ghost might be able to purposefully fix all that stuff but I’m ignoring that

Destiny crackpot theory: YW identity

Now hear me out, I don't think there SHOULD be one canon identity of the Young Wolf. OC guardians are way more fun. But if Bungie decides the player character needs more plot relevance and makes more concrete characterisation, here's my theory on how they could do that.

So, guardians don't have memory from before they die. But that part of them isn't dead, it's just deeply subconscious - see how memory is restored to both Savathun and Crow. Is it possible that in a future expansion, the memory of pre-resurection might be returned to the Guardian? If so, might they be a plot significant character?

I believe yes. And I have a guess for exactly who - former Queen's Wrath, Sjur Eido.

"But tumblrdotcom user tempestswing, Sjur Eido is a very specific awoken woman! What if you're playing an exo, male awoken, or human?"

Good question, voice in my head. I had the same one, since my character is also an exo. To answer it, I will refer to Destiny's enigmatic entities known as the Nine.

See, the circumstances of Sjur's death are very vague, but we know the Nine were involved. We know also that Sjur had a vision of being trapped in a labyrinth but trying to break free whilst Mara fought pyramids.

We know of no labyrinthine structures. But what if it's a metaphor? That Sjur is trapped within the subconscious of a guardian. How can it be a guardian with a very different physiology? Nine magic. We know they can fuck with bodies - see Xur, who was probably a regular citizen of Neomuna once upon a time (Jovian refers to Jupiter specifically, but in Astronomy can actually refer to any gas giant - and we know there were people on Neptune). They changed Xur into a tentacle faced monstrosity, and Orin not as much, maybe they changed Sjur into whatever the guardian is so she wouldn't be recognised.

I dont actually think this is what bungie will go for, especially since it'll have consequences for a lot of plot lines, especially the Mara stuff. Guardian Sjur is a fun concept though

I choose to believe the YW has a fear of heights after the events on Ghaul’s flagship in the Red War. More to it, I fully believe the YW was expecting to die after they lost their light.

You are the YW. Incredibly young by guardian standards but with a lot of raw power that, once truly refined, would rival even the most legendary guardians, and you already have a couple great feats under your belt already.

The city is invaded while you are away, and you get to Ghaul’s flagship to fight him and get his army out of the city. You then proceed to have everything taken from you over the course of 30 seconds. You lose the Light, and your closest friend is knocked out of your hands to the ground several hundred feet below. You are alone with no weapons, no way to call for back up, and surrounded by enemies you never had a chance against.

And then you fall

I also believe this is compounded by the cliff we fall down not long later when we are fleeing the city. We miss a jump trying to follow Louis and that can’t have been good for the trauma.

This is backed up by a line in the Corrupted(?) strike where if we wait too long at the top of the pit we have to fall down, Ghost reassures us that it’s safe to go down and that we’ll be okay

“Guardian?” The voice was soft, unsure. “It’s me…I know you and I haven’t had time to talk about…everything since I first left. And there’s been a lot that’s happened.” Crow watched as Naomi set down the data pad she was looking at, pulling back her hood of her cloak. She looked awful. Dark circles under her eyes made her gaze so much heavier. Her once bright emerald green eyes had lost their shine. Her lavender hair now fell to her shoulders, messy with split ends. Overall the sickly look of her caused his feelings of guilt to go into overdrive. “I read your latest message. I read all of them before Savathun reappeared. You…you don’t have to apologize. I mean, we figured things out didn’t we?” He gestured to the crown of sorrow room, where the purified nightmare of uldren floated. A small smile ghosted her lips. “I should have replied to you, but I needed space, fair?” Naomi nodded. “But I also should have at least sent something back. There’s something else I need to ask you: Who is your nightmare?”

What Little color the pale blue woman had in her face left quickly. Her hands shook as she clenched them, Fear anger and sorrow welling up until-

She smiled

She lifted the corners of her mouth and waved her hand. The meaning was clear: It’s not important. Crow opened his mouth to disagree, but before he could get a word in, she had left.

Unbeknownst to the two of them, Eris watched as the large crowd of nightmares materialized around her as soon as she left his sight.
