prayers - pt 2
It's been days since she last slept, more since she slept well. The Echo curls into her unconsciousness, ruthlessly replaying distorted images of the attack on the Waking Sands. She hears the Imperial soldiers calling for her, she hears her friends and comrades screaming.
At this point she'd try just about anything. Exhausted as she is she can't even bring herself to feel let down when the skies darken and rain answers her paltry prayers. Just one sleep, one sleep without hearing them screaming.
As her consciousness drifts helplessly into darkness, the only thing she can hear is the gentle rain and distant thunder.

Forgot to post this one here. But I love how some of Oschons lines are delivered. And then I thought his voice sounded very familiar.
He did also put so much emotion into Ardbert as well and I loved his performance.

The joke all along has been how much Deryk looks like Rhodry - dresses like him, wears his hair like him, has similar speech and mannerisms. It's been funny for me, but at a certain point during this story, I realized maybe it wasn't a joke to Alyx.
She's an emotional person. She can become attached to people fairly easily, despite everything that's happened. This young man was odd, and lonely, and mysterious - but kind, and fascinating, and fun to be around. Hauntingly familiar. Rather like a ghost.
Anyway... regardless of any revelations that may have come from this, and regardless of what I decide to count as personal canon, the ending to this story I feel very strongly about. The entire concept of him leaving forever, but ultimately deciding to stay ...
It's very important to her.
Nobody can replace him, obviously, but at least she didn't have to let this one go, too.

For the longest time I've journeyed alone, not involving myself in the affairs of others. But I've enjoyed our time together. ...When I imagine the moment we must part ways, I can't help but be saddened. And it surprises me that I feel that way.
