Shogun Steel Episode 1:
-i had my volume all the way up when i began the episode... why would i make such a deadly mistake.
-Zyro why are you beating up 10 year olds??? Should you even count those wins???
-oh Zyro is trying to copy Gingkas special move? Forgot about that.
-"ive defeated everyone. Welp. See ya never!"
-Zyros hair kinda reminds of Ryos. No i wont explain
-Madoka: my job is to summarize our plot trauma. I get paid $50/hour.
-Madoka is singlehandedly holding up the bey population.
-"the StRoNgEsT bLaDeR yOu SaY" bro who directed this background voice actor to speak like this
-maru is watching the most boring beybattle ever like it could be helpful. Im just imaging her reporting back to Madoka like "uwu i got the data! All the new bladers suck!"
-"how do i get a stadium out" there are other ways to win yknow
-shinobu comes out like hes supposed to be intimidating but hes dressed like a discount teru
-Zyro gets hit twice and cannot emotionally cope
-Zyro copies gingka then is gonna get mad at ren copying him i just know it.
-"that technique is familiar" damn madoka like you saw it 100 times over the last 150 episodes maybe??? Maybe thats why??? Maam pls its your bestie's

-benkei is now adopting all the teens. Good for him hes doing better than ryo.
-maru causes chaos throughout the city but no one can charge her because all the adults in power have adopted her
-this episode is both a lot stupider but a lot more charming than i remember. I love maru and zyros dynamic especially like theyre such siblings. I know they wont have an arc bc maru isnt allowed character depth but i can dream

Shogun Steel Episode 9:
-im hoping this episode is less painful to sit through. Please let it be less painful.
-sidenote theres a clip in the intro where phoenix is surrounded by three beys like yeah, even the intro understands that rens experience is just getting ganged up on
-apparently i missed the scene last episode where sakyo challenges shinobu
-sakyo looks so dumb in that scene i cant believe i missed it dhdjsjsjd. Like they try to make him intimidating but like i can just imagine shinobus thoughts being "??????"
-discount aguma time! How does he expect to actually take control of a stadium by beating zyro? Yall realize that bladers are like... individuals and not part of a wider team right now, right?
-these bandits are a more cooperative team than any in the world championship
-someone please tell me who dorected the voice actors of this season to speak like this
-sakyo speaks like hes in a middle school theater production
-i dont know if the battles in shogun steel are genuinely worse or not but i find them wayyyyy harder to enjoy
-"maru, are you and zyro both safe? Because this guy is wandering around doing a really good copying ryuga. And by that i mean just randomly destroying people. And misogyny."
-not going to lie, i do like the fact that sakyo basically defeats all of zyros rivals first, it builds him up a lot. But there still isnt much of an emotional connection so they really needed that time. They were able to throw ryuga straight into a battle with gingka because of their emotional tension but for sakyo thats nonexistent so theyre trying to manufacture someone.
-love that sakyo is bringing back the bey violence though i miss the dramatics of people getting tossed around by beybattles
-salamander isnt even broken. Stop being a baby shinobu
-"gingka haganes strongest and greatest rival" poor kyoya can never catch a break. Even ryugas ghost looms taller than him
-takanosuke can you shut up you dont deserve my respect yet
-"why is takanosuke with him" "well maru when two guys are gay-" or at least thats what shinonu would say if he wasnt repressed
-maru should make shinobu help her make banners and signs to cheer on their friends. She forces him to use finger paint
-i think you should be able to tell how boring i find the battles that i just think of stuff like that
-how many cough drops do you think bladers take a day due to all the screaming they do
-not takanosuke though
-what is that necklace sort of thing takanosuke is wearing
-"sakyo could show me the path to become stronger" takanosuke pls, misogyny isnt strength
-god theyre really just shoehorning in these rivalries. I really wish they could do a commentary on how theyre all forcing themselves to fit roles of a previous generation and carrying on mistakes from that generation. Like not just in a "youre your own person" sense but like... idk how to explain. I want sakyo punched in the face for thinking fucking ryuga was a good person to copy.
-sakyos claims are so fucking dumb like ryuga would ever give up power to someone else.
-au where kenta gave him ronin dragoon actually but kenta is also not the sanest person so accidently ended up making sakyo think he should copy ryuga.
-that was a lame loss. That wasnt even a good loss. That was a cop out loss.
-Someone please stop making sakyos voice actor speak like that.
-summary: more enjoyable than the last few. Gave me a lot of fluff and au fic ideas. But honestly the funniest part is how clearly this episode is supposed to parallel ryugas entrance and yet all these kiddos are just kinda forcing themselves to.

Shogun Steel Episode 2:
-Zyro reacts to overdramatic beytraining the same way I do
-bet maru wasnt even ordered to be in the tube, its just in her nature. Shes a cruel gremlin.
-i gotta say i dont think having someone hold shit up for as long as they can is good training. Moving around just a bit every so often will probably keep the muscles from overstraining or something. I dunno exercise but like letting them occasionally move prob would produce a longer and more rewarding exercise.
-maru is learning to be a cruel younger sibling from benkei, the oldest sibling of the gang
-shinobus spikes do not feel like they have enough depth for the rest of his hair
-shinobu watching zyro sprint up a mountain "what, is he playing???" Sir what is your idea of fun???
-Benkei you trained kenta for a single episode. A single day. Why didnt any of you train him more actually????
-maru and i understand one another. Shes the meanest person in the cast. She wants them dead.
-THEY GAVE MADOKA LONG HAIR AT BACK???? NO!!!! TAKE IT BACK TAKE IT BACK
-"spirit??? Whats that mean??? I failed my language class"
-eight really was meant to take after yu and i think we all need to compliment yus voice actor for pulling off yu
-zyro isnt allowed to have fun. Why? Bc having a fun beybattle is illegal. No fun bey hijinks allowed. Only muscles.
-eight draws on peoples faces where yu would punt them into the water and watch them float out to sea cheerfully
-madoka "i love it when bladers make stupid decisions. I lost the ability to care. Im post-jaded now" amano
-im unfortunately coming to the realization that i actually like eights hair. Someone shoot me
-the gang is too traumatized they legit treat every battle like a loss will break zyro like yall need to let him have fun
-seriously zyro copying moves seems to be a repeat thing. He and ren are veeery similar
-why do all the kids in beyblade have stamina types??? I mean eight does throw less temper tantrums than kite from what i remember-
-eight would get destroyed if he went to koma. Hed call hyoma a farmboy and hyoma would casually push him off a cliff (before catching him obvi)
-i do like the visual symbolism of efrits spirit appearing for this special move, i dont think it did for the rest and it shows zyro coming into his own. If im wrong about this then im smarter than the animators.
-maru and eight little sibling against little sibling violence
-maru already getting zyro into trouble for the next episode
-i get that tsubasas actor is good at saying cryptic stuff but they could give him something else to do. Let him be stressed out bc yu destroyed another stadium pls
-summary: i forgot eight was introduced this early on, and while he isnt my least favorite of the shogun steel cast, i can definitely see where he fails where the other child characters succeeded. Maru and zyro being siblings continues to be the highlight for me and i am getting emotionally attached. I need hijinks, i need zyro helping maru, i need maru to draw on his face when he sleeps and to explode his microwave for science.

-and kites temporary character development has been lost from stress. Honestly i dont mind but i hope this has consequences.
-eight maybe your brother needs therapy. Maybe you should tell madoka and benkei bc he definitely isnt always...
-okay them playing rock paper scissors was adorable. I love their faces. Shinobu looks so distressed at losing.
-"thats what were going to figure out, right maru?" "Nah zyro youre screwed"
-shinobu has kinda just stopped being a rival he just hangs around as a bestie
-benkei your students have outpaced you. Rip.
-aw ren and shinobu helping zyro train is adorable and certainly not a way for them to just beat him up a bit

-summary: once again a startlingly decent episode from shogun steel. A bit packed, but otherwise enjoyable. Kite is spiraling so i cant wait to see him get punched back to his senses. Watching takanosuke lose was enjoyable. And the arc with zyro ren and shinobu is honestly some really good downtime that this show desperately needs, i like the way they help each other

-omg omg is this the yoshio ep? This is gonna be hilarious.
-why does he also have the shogun steel abs. Why does everyone have these. They ruin every design.
-love that the episode is immediately throwing this dude in our faces. No set up no nothing.

-also just wanna say kite is ending up being a fine character. Like normally i think id hate him but then sakyo and takanosuke are right there.

-i love that shinobu looks second hand embarassed at kites panic while the others are just watching with full interest.
-eight gets thrown back and covered in scratches in one screen, and just a single scrape in the next. I will accept this bc its fucking hilarious on a meta level.
-OROCHI DOESNT EVEN LOOK THAT BROKEN! BEYBLADE CAN BREAK BEYS BETTER THAN THAT!
-once again id like to say kite is actually a better character than i remember. Probably bc he isnt worse than the cast around him
-awwwwwwwww kite realizing his mistakes. Now if only kite is actually gonna keep his progress.
-sidenote but i think eight asked either madoka or benkei to teach him how to cook to cheer up kite

-summary: probably the best episode so far. I do enjoy rens episodes more, but thats not because theyre well written. This genuinely felt closest to an episode from the main series. It showed off kite and eight at their best as characters, and while it was a bit heavy handed, i think thats fine. I take back what i said about kite i mean hes annoying but at least he has this episode. This was a real palette clenser from the misogyny. I hope there are more episodes like this and they keep eight as more of a kenta character than a yu character.

-whats that in the sky? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! Its misogyny!
-i do like the idea of the gang going around ti show off the cyclone stadium, but i do remember them going through it too quick
-side note i love how everyone is standing casually while tsubasa talks to them while shinobu is stiff as a board. Hes such a fucking disaster.
-the line readings are kinda stiff this scene im really wondering if it was just a problem with scene length
-"the dream of holding a beyblade world tournament! I have really fond memories of my mental breakdown!"
-zyro and maru traveling together! Zyro and maru bonding! Only not because theyre gonna skip over it!
-shinobu teaching everyone how to battle by kicking their asses
-eight shouldve tried to skate into the stadium
-honestly if people tried to teach me like this id unionize against them
-sidenote at this point i actually left to watch a nice lesbian anime with my brother so i know that i am now in the perfect state for this episode to dissappoint me.
-sakyo should be the youngest of the older cast. Just for his intro line.
-okay i do like the lead up to be a left rotating bey, the way kite talks doesnt immediately clue us into that but going back already knowing it makes that line hit

-summary: i dont know if i hate this episode or episode 6 more but both of them are awful. The blatant misogyny of this series in specific becomes apparent every time ren is on screen. Its awful. There are very little redeeming qualities this episode and ultimately i think it was a terrible mistake. Sakyo and takanosuke both deserve violence commited against them in the name of feminism.

-alright ren got her episode now to destroy any chance of her being a serious character by letting takanosuke take her pride.
-i love that maru is number 1 in the sound off. Maru appreciation
-ren would get along with tetsuya, shed do the krabby finger things
-why is everyone so mean to ren shes just a ray of sunshine :((( like come on zyro you should be excited to have her around
-benkei: synchrome beys are banned. I dont want this show to be fun
-maru didnt call tsubasa by his title and she shouldnt! She only respects madoka!
-why does rens hair look like that from the back? I elect we never discuss this again
-benkei just accepting ren makes me think she talked to him beforehand. Though it is in character for her to just show up (or maybe ren already knew benkei ahead of time. Like she would if someone had given her phoenix-)
-cant believe we dont get to see shinobu vs ren
-ren is constantly annoyed that her rivals are gays obsessed with each other and none of them will just professionally battle her
-benkei: I RUN A SMALL BUSINESS I NEED TO OPEN THE SHOP

-takanosukes voice. Omg. His voice. I always forget the specific cadence he has and am punched in the face with how much sillier it is than anything i can imagine. Thank god for his voice actor this is the silliest shit
-takanosuke: you cant be zyro kurogane! Zyro is a manly man amazing blader who couldnt possibly be a girl!
-takanosuke is misogynist im so surprised
-takanosuke and ren could be such fun rivals if takanosuke wasnt a dick wow

-seriously the way everyone in the story ignores her in favor of zyro is so incredibly frustrating and puts a terrible taste in my mouth. Even if you dont think the show is trying to pose that as a positive thing it makes the characters come off as unbelievably sexist.
-ren gets good character development. Not that shes allowed to be the focus, theres a boy here now so lets shove ren to the side
-takanosuke your crush is destroying your ability to be a likeable human being
-shinobu gets a nice speech from benkei. Ren doesnt. Mhm mhm i see the favoritism here
-nvm what i said about hating kite. Takanosukes introduction was so shit im never gonna be able to unsee it.
-i like shinobus arc to getting a special move, he did have a good arc this episode and it builds great off of shinobus character. Theyve finally set it up enough that they can pull off his character
-takanosuke shut up, you dont deserve a good moment this episode. I want him to run away crying.
-summary: i was expecting to dislike this episode as rens downfall but i was not expecting to hate it so extremely. The way they treat ren is so disrespectful that i cannot imagine ever liking takanosuke again without remembering this. Not to mention it souring the rest of the cast. I think i complain a lot about the treatment of women to the point i worry its become desensitized on this blog but this episode left me feeling terrible. Seeing depictions like this genuinely make me feel pushed aside and depowered as they take away my ability to be recognized as a person just because of my gender. An awful episode with very few redeeming qualities and i see no excuse for rens treatment.

-im just not going to be able to watch the screen most of this episode if i want to keep my sanity.
-also this is the first time i skipped the intro. Not because i like it but i guess i was too lazy to skip it the other time.
-i like how stiff this dudes seaweed is. Looks fake. Pollutes the sea with plastic seaweed
-i saw the swimsuits. So temoted to skip this episode
-benkei: you want to play? You want to have fun? What are you, a loser that will never amount to anything?????
-madoka giving maru good advice
-omg madoka legit just yeeted that ball at zyro. Madoka has taken to smart violence to solve her problems. As she should.

-id like to think anyone can enter the wbba headquarters and go see the director, most of them have just never tried
-madoka makes sure to compliment maru all the time. Positive reinforcement for the kid!!!!

-i have nothing to say about this scene its simply perfect. Would be funny if tsubasa was just working a secretary job and shinobus like "wait you saved the world why are you working that job" and tsubasas like "i tried to be director for a day and i needed a year of therapy afterwards'

-i dont think its their bond that let them use synchrome first, i think they were just messing around with their beys. Most bladers dont seem to understand basic mechanics

-i think this episode just shows off the pacing issues soooo much. This episode had the gang meet the old bladers, had rens introduction, and is having the rebattle with the unabaras. These are three separate episodes!!!
-listen maru and zyro vs kite and eight wouldve been perfect. Sibs vs sibs. I do think he should synchrome with shinobu first but like, maru
-more property damage!!!!!
-why did they animate kites adams apple??? Why.
-summary: best episode, ren really makes this episode. Shes such a personable character and even in short bursts she can show off really well. I just wish the episode treated her with more respect, she shouldnt be brushed away like a side thought. This episode is a mess but an enjoyable one.

Shogun Steel Episode 4:
-its time to have to deal with kite. Pray for my sanity.
-i love marus excited pose
-zyro explicitly asking shinobu to come along on the training trip is an adorable scene they robbed us of
-"beyblade is fun" "youre kidding" in this show apparently
-shinobu has a deeper voice than benkei
-maru better have lied to them and switched the lap number once. You know she did.
-they both hate losing. Game nights with this gang must be fun
-maru push them off the cliff for daring to contradict her. She couldve. I wish
-okay these twos conversations are actually really stiff right now. I hope they get better because right now its honestly a bit tough to listen to them
-zyro stop insulting benkeis burgers!!!!! Thats illegal!!!!
-maru and eight should pit their older brothers against each other more often
-"kite unabara. They say hes really good but never looked at his outfit in a mirror. Kinda like you zyro"
-honestly maru is the one who humiliated eight and it would be way funnier if kite tried to battle maru only to be hit with the fact shes five and he thus has no idea what to do.
-i really want to know what sort of mathematics they think kite is doing. Are they linear, polynomial, matrix, probability?? And what probability model is he using? Do i actually care? No
-none of these characters have poker faces
-maru how did you not see it was a defense type earlier??? Maru whered your competence go
-honestly id love a mathematical character where theyre just spouting bullshit and they know it. Thatd be me.
-im trying to think of something lukewarm to say about kite but honestly his character is just annoying for me. He has zero maturity. Hes being pretty easy to ignore though, thankfully for me
-synchrome time!
-guys. Guys. Hear me out. Maru and zyro synchrome. I know what im doing when i finish this series now.
-efrit finally causes some property damage in this series!!!! I was waiting for shit to break!!!!
-summary: maru got to be silly this episode so obviously a 10/10 for me but zyros battle with kite was pretty uninteresting. Eight shined this episode though as annoying as he is at least he got small moments of character depth. The beginning of this episode is honestly something i remember as one of my favorite parts of this series and that hasnt changed.

Shogun Steel Episode 3:
-wait how did shinobu think he could kick zyro out actually???? He doesnt own beyblade. He doesnt own the beypark. What tf is that entitlement????
-i like that maru also speaks to shinobu like he should know who she is. Tbf, he should, shes more important than him
-"run away? My battle with you has already been settled" dont worry zyro, shinobu just doesnt know how to handle a gay panic
-BACKGROUND GIRL BLADER EXISTS I LIKE HER OUTFIT
-tsubasa: i left my office. Im going to act all cool but really its because i accidently dumped all my paperwork out the window and im escaping before my subordinates murder me.
-i want to think that all the waitresses at benkeis cafe are really good bladers who are trained to destroy annoying customers. Shinobu or kite acts rude to one once and they get killed in 5 seconds.
-i want to see someone pass out in the middle of battle again, up on those platforms they seem even more removed than they did before and i want to revel in the hilariousness
-the guy facing zyro didnt even try to attack why would they be surprised abt losing then
-kite appears. Rip me im going to actually have to recognize his existence next episode.
-i wish there was a whole episode of zyro and maru shenanigans before this rematch with shinobu and zyro. The runtime is simply unfortunate. Its messed up the pacing so much
-salamander weaves slightly, it clearly would keep him from getting hit despite the range being less than its diameter.
-someone give shinobu an ace ring
-shinobu copied hikarus move. At least hes got good taste
-zyro: I ONLY HAVE ONE TRICK AND DAMN IF I WONT KEEP USING IT UNTIL IT WORKS
-maru actually rooting for zyro like shed deny it later but shes actually invested in him winning. She wants to pretend to be superior to bladers (which she is) but shes totally the type to get super excited and start bouncing up and down in the middle of a game
-i feel like if zyro knew masamune hed copy some of masamunes techniques. I think theyre also pretty similar
-"no way! It cant be! Zyros on fire but his jacket is so fake that it cant even burn"
-shinibu loses. There goes his entire sense of identity. Hikaru would bully him.
-tsubasa if you keep giving bad cryptic lines im stealing your screentime rights.
-summary: there was the least amount of maru and zyro interactions in this episode so obviously its the worst. I wasnt too invested in the whole thing and i feel like its kinda bad pacing. But otherwise its still a solid episode, just doesnt have enough buildup of zyros character and relationships for me.
