Happy Birthday to David Bowie, who would have been 73 today. I owe so much of who I am today to him. He inspired me as a singer, as an artist, as a musician, as a rebel, and as a bisexual woman. I felt validated in being different. I felt encouraged to stand out. I felt empowered to challenge society’s rules and standards. David Bowie was also my gateway drug into goth and industrial music. His music and his form of expression really inspired me to look into myself and not care about the restrictions placed upon me. He inspired me to prove people wrong. He also inspired so many musicians that I adore and admire so deeply. They wouldn’t be where they are today without him. Also, lately, his unique voice has been helping me to develop my skills in proper, traditional operatic training by strengthening my chest voice that I’ve been neglecting for so long (that I’ve long been handicapped by as a singer without even knowing it).
