I wanted to check something in Wyll's dance scene in the datamine and then looked at his dialogue with player Karlach.

Wyll: May I have this dance? Karlach: Cocky, don't you think? Threaten my life, then try to cozy up after? Wyll: I deserve that. And I wish I could give more than 'sorry's in return. Wyll: But I count you as a friend. My closest, in all honesty. Please - dance with me. If we must burn with the Hells' fires, let us burn together.

just musing about gale and his parents:

we only have a handful of conversations where he mentions his parents and when he does, it's usually only his mother, morena dekarios.

his mother is mentioned at several points in the game. during a custom protag playthrough, he mentions her in a datamined conversation that appears to be bugged/broken:

and he mentions her at the end of the game as well when he proposes to the player:

i was also able to find another mention in a banter with karlach that usually happens for me shortly after recruiting her:

from gale's origin, this aspect is explored even more deeply:

there's more, of course, and it very clearly shows that the bond he shares with his mother is a deep and loving one from both sides. it's also very interesting that he is called dekarios after his mother and not--even though naming conventions could certainly vary even in waterdeep--after his father.

who he doesn't mention at all.

the only time we do get a vague mention is during a conversation with the protag after saving mirkon from the harpies:

after that, i haven't been able to find any reference, indirect or direct, to gale's father in the game.

so, here we enter theory territory:

i feel that, from a narrative point of view, in keeping with what i think gale's themes are, gale's father may have abandoned gale and his mother when gale was still young.

gale's character is rife with what might be interpreted as abandonment issue and it makes sense to me at least that those weave through his life up until the point where the protag meets him in the game.

another theme with gale is that he appears to have a lot of female figures in this life, who all had a profound impact on him, whether that impact is positive or negative: morena, tara, and yes, mystra.

it feels like to me that he had no father figure--and i use that term a bit more loosely here--until later in his life with elminster. this is already hinted at in a game with a custom protag, but all the more solidified in a gale origin playthrough:

i think without directing telling you, the game does allow you to sort of guess at that part of his background in this way, and understand why gale is as he is as a consequence. you can also understand why he acts as he does with elminster. seeking his approval. yearning for it. being extremely hurt by elminster having to see him like this when mystra sends him to gale to deliver her... instructions. this almost pointed absence of a mention of his father in all his comments (and tara's too, now that i think about it) when it comes to family is glaring to me.

being left, being abandoned, makes it much more understandable to me why he doesn't speak of him at all: if gale's father had died, it would make more sense to me that he would remark on it or share it in some way or another. it might have come up in a banter with wyll, perhaps, who is struggling with the expectations his own father had placed on him.

"he died when i was still very young." perhaps, or something along the lines of, "i barely remember him; he died when i was only a child.", etc etc etc.

YET if gale's father indeed abandoned his mother--who he holds in such high regard, and not to mention his own hurt--i can easily see and understand why he wouldn't waste a word on him.

anyhow yes, this is long and ramble-y, and i 100% might be reading too much into what may be a simple oversight, but it was interesting to me and i still see it as tying in with the theme of abandonment, even though we don't know the reasons for it in this particular case.

was it not wishing to deal with a child with magical talents he couldn't control yet? was it for another reason entirely?

So yeah had the chance to sleep on it and gonna give my full thoughts on the (unannounced) new dialogue for Minthara when Durge makes the decision to reject [SPOILER]. Gonna keep it under the cut but also read @shoddynomenclature's flashfic about it, it echos a lot of my feelings on the subject.

I think this had the potential to be something that makes her character even more nuanced and interesting by showing an uglier side of herself. Yes she has been abandoned by gods before, and the pain of that can't be understated. So seeing Durge reject Bhaal, to walk away from an inheritance when she was taken from Lolth against her will? Must feel frustrating. Seeing a character work through those emotions and fucking it up could be really good. COULD be.

This one conversation, where she throws everything about her relationship with Durge aside and turns her back on them with just a single non-critical response and no follow up? This ain't it.

I hate to say it, but this addition has all but killed my interest in playing Durge, if this is what it does to her character.

I'd LIKE it if there will be future additions, conversations you can have back at camp after the stress of the day has passed, to ask her what's really going on here. Yeah it WOULD be nice if there were some follow up where we can talk to her about our reasons for rejecting Bhaal, with the option to reconcile. Which could even lead neatly into her post-Orin speech, y'know some of her best writing in the game where she realize that Bhaal is no different than Lolth, or the Absolute.

Or, the chance to refuse to get back together with her after that. The only other way to break up with Minthara currently is cheating, which sucks, whereas having a big ugly argument and deciding "We've both said our peace, and understand each other better now, but we can't be together. Not after all this." THAT'S Really Good.

But unlike others, I have no confidence that any such addition is coming.

Because (if I understand it right) this dialogue was datamined from release, but was always inaccessible until the recent hotfix. So it was easy to ignore, treat it as cut content like the pregnancy plot (which I still don't get and frankly at this point I don't wanna know).

By deciding to make it accessible, Larian has made it clear that they want this to be a part of her character. But unlike this dialogue, there isn't any follow up sitting in datamine waiting to be turned on.

As far as we know, this is it. It's useless to speculate on what they could add (why add to her writing so piecemeal like this anyway?) because they didn't wait until they HAD more, to make this a part of her writing. Hell, it wasn't even worth mentioning in the hotfix notes!

Loving her partner to the degree she's willing to put aside her thirst for power is such a key part of Minthara's character that this dialogue completely abandons. What Larian is saying here is that her love for Durge was just a ruse to entice someone she could control into acquiring power, even at their expense. And if that's Larian's vision for Minthara's character, then why stop with Durge?

Why does she break up with Durge for rejecting Bhaal, but not with Shadowheart for rejecting Shar?

Or Astarion if he remains a spawn?

Why shed all those real tears for Karlach if she'd rather die than return to Avernus?

Why continue to share Tav's bed if they refuse the Astral Tadpole? Why offer no real objection if they destroy the brain, though she's rooting for them to take control of it right up until the moment? Why can she find power enough in the two of them with the Absolute gone to continue their plans for conquest, but Durge refusing to become just like Orin, her tormentor she swore to kill, is a dealbreaker?

If she tells my Tav the bond they share is called alurlssrin, can I even believe her, when she said the same to Durge only to call them stupid for believing in love right after?

Do you see the problem here?

Do you see why people would rather this dialogue not exist, if this is what it does to her character?

First of all, thank you so much for the video with Kiaran and Halsin's romance. Now I have a clear picture of their relationship. There's a question I've been wanting to ask for a while. Among the origin companions, who do you think would be the most ideally suited for Halsin?

All of my friends had different answers and arguments, and I would really love to hear your thoughts. If you don't see any of them with Halsin - that's an answer too! And I will accept it!

For Origins, I know I have an agenda, but I truly think it would be Karlach. They're warm and kind and have some of the sweetest party banters. Halsin needs Karlach's passion and Karlach needs Halsin's calm. They both have the same background- Outlander- and very similar values. (Any action that earns approval from one will almost always earn the approval of the other and vice-versa).

I have my issues with the romanced ending for Halsin and Karlach (he's the only one besides Dark Justiciar Shadowheart who won't go to Avernus with her, and after patch 5, I do understand why better than before it, but I still feel it could have been written to show Halsin having more guilt/conflict and comforting Karlach more. Like, there's a line where you can tell him "I don't know if I can [go to Avernus]. Not alone." and Halsin replies "do what you must, as shall I." Which just... doesn't make it sound like Halsin understands what is being said.) HOWEVER, issues aside, one thing that I absolutely shamelessly adore about the romanced Karlach route?

Normally, there's only one way to get Halsin to say he loves you, and it's an awful way; by manipulating him, repeatedly saying you want to break up and then changing your mind, until he says "why would you test my patience like this? Sometimes, it is difficult to love you." But with Karlach? If you poly-romance Halsin and someone else, there's a line (I don't know if it is still accessible in the game at this point because of all the changes, but it's definitely still in the datamined script and there is audio recorded for it, so I will consider it canon) where as you start to burn up on the docks, Halsin softly says, "stay with us, Karlach. Stay with the ones who love you."

So Karlach is the only one he'll say he loves without being manipulated, which balances out the issue with their ending.

Just reading the epilogue file that didn't make it into the game and comparing it with the full release. So many questions. So few answers.

In the previous version of ending scene, six months later, you and your companions gathered around the campfire with the Withers and everyone told how he was doing. Halsin was talking about "nine whole wagons of children" he is now taking care of. And this line is marked as a non-romantic answer.

At least at first it was a line for a player who didn't romance Halsin. Moreover, the answers of other companions are also marked as non-romantic. Many lines are incomplete and in |such modules|. For example, Minsc and Jaheira's answers look like this:

Minsc: |MINSC BLOCK| Jaheira: |JAHEIRA BLOCK|

Usually a line is marked if there is an alternative line in the dialogue. In this case, two romance flags are turned off (=False) at once. If Halsin is your only love interest (State_PartneredWithHalsin) and if you romance someone else and him (State_PartneredWithHalsinSecondary). In theory, there should be two alternative answers. This doesn't mean that nine wagons of children aren't mentioned. But whatever he was planning to say, the developers rewrote this ending.

At the end of the game after the pier, you meet with Halsin in the room and discuss what's next only if you romance him. Then he'll tell you that line about orphans.

There is also a special dialogue for Origin Karlach. To be honest, I don't like it because he sends her to Avernus alone. But what confuses me even more. Whatever answer you choose it will be marked as if you chose death. And this is the future flag. No idea what the point is.

As another example, in the ending with spawn Astarion some of the answers are also marked for the future. If we look for a way to walk safely in the sun again. And if Cazador is alive and we're going to hunt him.

In other words, the game remembers your choice. But why, if this is the end? That makes sense for epilogues or dlc. Most likely the first.

But who knows. Dataminer Chubblot (this guy is amazing btw) found a bugged epilogue scene in the game where the Withers tells the fate of your companions. In the video he mentions Minsс, Halsin and the player.

Sleep, rest, revel. But be ready. For thou mayest yet be needed.

Sounds like a hint. Although the scene looks pretty raw. I'm not sure if they will finish it.

A player who has become a mind flayer should hardly hope for a continuation. A small consolation for Halsin fans, in this epilogue you stay with him.

Meanwhile, I will cross my fingers for future content.

Patch 2 Karlach got an entirely new ending huh 👀 Karlach ending vid & personal speculations for Minthara's extra content under the cut. Spoilers of course!

^Here's the video. The content of it is brand new, I literally couldn't find any of these lines in the datamine that was compiled at release (03/08/2023).

I wonder if they're going to do something similar for Minthara. There is an ending where we go back to Menzoberranzan👀

Previously, Karlach fans asked for another Karlach ending where her heart is fixed. That wasn't exactly what they asked for, but it's an ending where she lives nonetheless. So, wish fulfilled-ish? Meanwhile...

The request for Minthara's content so far is much more vague, thus making it more difficult to predict what extra content will be added in (if they were to do that)... Most were asking for Larian to patch her bugged lines and improve the overall lack of content. We never got to experience her romanced lines after Act 1 other than some crumbs and the datamine, so there was not really "the one" storyline-specific thing being asked for.

I am purposely ignoring the pregnancy plotline, it seems that the IGN article hinted that it truly is cut content from an earlier iteration of her character.

What I want & I think would be nice as extra Minthara content: More content of her being vulnerable after opening up to Tav would be super duper nice. I think I could draw somewhat of a parallel with Astarion's romance (from the little I know of it). Started off strong and physical, but more emotionally involved as it progressed, and in the end, it's the emotional connection that is the most fulfilling.

Her character is very power & control, but in the end...

even if the player didn't seize control of the elder brain, she forgives them because she's in love with them. I want to see more of that connection, more of it being built up. In the datamine right now, there's just that alurlssrin scene and that's it. Can we get a kiss from her 🥺 or a more romantic sex scene 🥺 pls Larian if you're reading this.

After all, it wasn't just the goblin afterparty altar scene that got most of us into Minthara, it was equal part that line where she promised she would take us as consort in Menzoberranzan too.

For non-romanced Minthara content, I'm actually not sure what could be added in other than an epilogue ending slide. Ending slides would benefit all companions and not just her, but yeah. I'm also curious on her lineage, but I'm not sure if that'd ever get elaborated upon.

Bottom line: I need her romance content in game & that elfsong tavern epilogue with her in game. For the extra content I hope we get new content that further her romantic connection with Tav 🥺and something more for the ending would be super nice too.

We're literally the most patient fans ever if I do say so myself lol. If Larian could pull this off not only would they please many of their longtime fans*, but it'd be incredible marketing/public relation move for them. Fixing Minthara's content might also encourage more players to replay and do an evil playthrough if they haven't done so.

*I feel like a lot of us who are fans of Minthara because we were here since Early Access and some solely played an evil playthrough for her. A few of my friends who played the game for the first time just straight up do good path, and Minthara was no more than another enemy to slaughter. Die hard, long time fans make for good evangelist marketer, word-of-mouth spreader and dedicated wiki editors. Larian's already got enough good rep, but the complaints has started to roll in, first on her & Karlach's content, then overall for Act 3, so I think a proper patching of Minthara and extra content would be golden tbh. Or maybe that's just the marketer/Minthara enjoyer in me talking. whopps.

And what do you think would make for nice additional content? Lmk!

So, finally got myself to download epilogue.

It was an enjoyable experience for what it is. I will discard that it is not what I wanted. I had enough time to accept that Larian cannot stick the landing to save their life, and BG3 was not an exception, no matter how much I wanted it to be.

More details, spoilers, opinions, speculations etc under the cut.

For me it was solid 8/10 experience.

I dropped 1 point because they took away our inventory and did not put a single potion of animal speak in the camp. So I could not talk to Scratch and Owly! What travesty is that?!!!

I was considering going back to before the point of no return to add the spell, but decided it will take too long, and this was my first run anyways, so I missed some things or got suboptimal quest outcomes because it was a blind run.

And another half point off is for assuming Tav would leave Scratch and Owly behind. Wysteria WOULD NEVER abandon her furbabies!

And to get all the grumpynes out of the way - and put them in the last half-point I took off my score, here it is.

I do not get why epilogue removed scene of Wyll and Karlach in Hell. It was such a cool scene, and it would tie-in nicely with epilogue. Why? Put it back!

Also, why I was not allowed to talk more to Astarion? I get that in game he and Tav were together all this time. But me as a player was not there.

The least they could do is give us unlimited hugs and kisses, like with Halsin. And if there narratively no news between Tav and Astarion, we could have talked about Sebastian's letter and Gur's letter. And discussing moving in with Halsin or Gale. Both have invited us, after all. That would have been perfect. But unlimited hugs and kisses should have been a bare minimum!

And I hate Wither's 'this is the end... for now. You might be needed later'. Do not fucking tease new content if you have no plans to do it. Just stop. Give us definitive ending, or announce you plan to add dlc or a sequel at the same time as the tease. Especially if it is for a new game that won't be out for many years and not a dlc.

(And yeah, I read all the hints he has in his room. Dark Sun letter combined with Milil... My guess is that Cyric is the next Big Bad. I get excited by such things, and I do not want to get excited this early. Either announce the thing or do not tease 😤).

Companions do not interact with each other💔

And just some puzzling things.

Why not all companions get unlimited hugs? I love Shadowheart, yes! But I also love Karlach and Wyll! They need unlimited hugs too!

I wonder how Tav knew about 9 wagons of kids with Halsin if it was only mentioned in deleted datamined epilogue slides and was not a player's knowledge in the game itself?

Gale says he gave crown to Mystra. But we left it to rot in the river! Did he go back and went diving anyways?

Now onto good things!

So, Milil cameo is 10/10, Wysteria nearly peed her pants with excitement! He better be romanceable in the next game.

Loved seeing Boo riding on Minsc's shoulder. And hearing Minsc's descriptions of all the companions. Heartwarming! Though Boo is a tease with all the arcane remedies for vampiric condition that he will not say, because love is the strongest!🙃

Guess we'll go to Gale's magic students and quiz them on the topic then😄

Loved newspapers and letters. It was especially sweet of Haarlep to write💖 Please write more and come to visit too😏 My favourite Incubus indeed!

Also, lol @ so many ppl wanting to fuck Raphael now that he is dead🤣

I am happy Halsin has finally settled down. I think Wysteria and Astarion will settle down with him when they find the cure. And at least Astarion will have a good home when Wysteria dies of old age. I mean, even if cured, Astarion is still an elf with hundreds of years left to live. And tieflings have human lifespan. So Wysteria will die much earlier that both Halsin and Astarion. Unless Withers does smth about it.

Did Arabella become Elminster's apprentice? Or there's some other 'beard man' she's talking about?🤔

Happy for Alfira and Lakrissa getting a house and a music school💖

Nice tease about Karlach and Wyll finding a hellforge map! I'd love it to be a dlc, but I will take offscreen cure too.

Sometimes you just wanna give everyone a makeover...

Thanks to a bunch of little mods, I was able to tweak everyone's visuals a little to the left of their default looks!

Lae'zel has a combination of her default hair, a mashup of her and Jaheira's hairs, and languid bandit with black highlights/grey streaks thanks to the vanilla hair mixer mod. She has black lips to match her default makeup, and ashlander set 2(?) from the dunmer mod. An extra eye scar really gives her that war-worn look!

Astarion has added Sorcha Curls to his default hair to give him a little ponytail via the mixer mod. He also has some darker eyeliner/tired-around-the-eyes tattoo to make him look just a bit more undead (and dashing!). Lastly, he has Highkey Dirks from jerinski's piercing mods because everyone deserves to have cute earrings. (I drew his new look!)

Karlach has the scarred vanilla head from the datamined karlach mod (which is super cool, but I fell in love with the vanilla face first). Her default hair has an added foxtail that turned red but looks pretty sweet, so I kept it. Her eyes are set to ash vampire (dunmer mod) which bestowed an amazing glow. I gave her the totemic tattoo and darkened lips since they look so nice with her other tats. Thanks to jerinski and trip's piercing mods, she looks even more badass!

Gale has a longer Wizardly Updo from the eponymous mod, with slightly more pronounced grey streaks. He has more mystra themed piercings because why not. Also he has glasses, which really makes him look like a professor.

Shadowheart has a combination of tav's salon 17 (based on her default, no bangs) and 71(?) along with languid bandit; dark purple highlights and makeup give her an edgy goth look. Finishing the look with purple crystal earrings, she truly does look like an acolyte of the dark goddess!

Wyll has the blade of avernus hairstyle from the more dreadlocks mod and the rougish beard. I gave him a broken blade neck tattoo and made his skin just a hint more red. A tiefling mod gives him a new body with tail and claws, and he's got j & t piercing option.

remember in ea's datamined stuff how mizora was desperately asking wyll to save her from spike & the goblins/minthara (while threatening him by saying if he doesn't, her father would hunt him down) and wyll saying that sometimes he wishes he could kill her, or so he thinks on the darkest days? i don't mind wyll's rework, i think it's neat how his story ties with karlach's, but i do wish they kept his toxic love/hate relationship with mizora... i was soooooo excited for that and we got nothin
