If they didn’t have their name, what would be your second choice? kw's name is funny because it was actually just a placeholder that ended up sticking -- it originally stood for 'knife wielder' (based on the trope of the guy who, when undressing/disarming, spends the next 15 minutes pulling dozens of well-hidden weapons off of their person). but 'kw' eventually ended up becoming initials for her Actual Name, and the fact that she goes by her initials became a huge part of her story and her character. BUT if i were to pick another name for them, it'd be something androgynous and nicknameable. maybe some iteration of alexander/alex/xander?

What motivates them? oh stevie. he is so motivated by his Heart. he spent a lot of his early life very lonely and very displaced, but because he found belonging so wholly with adrianna and her family, it all just made him incredibly kind. he can't bear to see suffering, and will do nearly anything to ease someone's pain, even at his own detriment.

Which traits are they most attracted to? Are they physical traits? this was a really fun one to think about because adrianna doesn't feel very much attraction At All -- physically or romantically, but also just like in general, she is not a person who has a lot of interest in People that she doesn't already know and care for. so idk what she's attracted to As A Rule. but she is undeniably attracted to both stevie and dee. with stevie, she's drawn to his openness -- he is not afraid to be vulnerable. with dee, she's drawn to her tenacity -- she is single-minded and shameless in her desires.

Who are they to you, the creator? Are they your child, your beloved, your experiment, etc? dee is like ... my sister. she's the same as me in a lot of ways, and different from me in a lot of ways, but we grew up together and we've got the same shitty genes. i've been writing dee on and off for a decade, and i've processed so much of my anger and grief regarding disability and isolation through her. (sorry girl <3)

adrianna is a young disenfranchised & marginalized person trying to make ends meet in a place that is inhospitable and oftentimes violent to her. it makes her deeply distrustful of help in any form, independent to a fault. but when the time comes to play a part in tearing down some of the structures that mistreated her, she is more than happy to participate in its demise.

dee was always a sick kid and it got worse as she became a preteen. one day, around 12 years old, she thought she was going to die. instead, she woke up in an abandoned hospital ward, half-alive and completely alone. and that's how she stayed for the next six years.

the thing is. i am genuinely so close to finishing cursedwip that i don’t want to start another project, i just want to finish cursedwip, it would rly only take another few weeks if i could reliably chip away at it every day. but i do miss doing the creative equivalent to running through an open pasture spinning with my arms wide like a deodorant commercial

A girl crouched low between rusting metal dumpsters, fighting blood loss for breath. She didn’t know the time, but she guessed early morning, the sun starting to stain the horizon red through the city smog. She didn’t know the month or the day, but it was cold and wet, fall or winter. Her skin was damp from exertion and puckered from the chill. She’d torn her tank top to shreds to make bandages for the bite marks on her wrists. Not good bandages—the girl was far more adept at making a mess than cleaning it up—but they did the job, staunched the bleeding enough to not leave a trail through the city as she ran.  She was shivering. She was starving. She couldn’t stop smiling.

in reality what’s going to fix me is:

successfully and completely moving into our new place

getting a job that pays at least 50% more if not 100% more than my current job

and Then rereading the raven cycle

#what i rly need is the trc reread but i can’t do that til i do the other things. #bc i do not have the brain or heart or spine to enjoy anything while life is . in the midst of huge and time-sensitive transitions. #but rly. rereading trc will put me back in my creativity brain after so long without it #and then i can read More books. and finish cursedwip. and start that short story. and just have fun writing again. #in other words.
