MK’s Favorite Post-Grave Danger Things for @letswaitforme Part Four: Over the Shoulder (my commentary below)
So fun fact that I’m sure I’ve spoken about before, and I know I’ve used that script bit in a set before, but I own a rough draft of the Grave Danger script that has some minor changes from the final cut (such as that voice over, which was Nick talking on his tape that Grissom lip reads) and something I’ve loved about it is that Nick thinks he was stupid to get kidnapped like that--first of all, the poor baby, thinking it was his fault cause he let his guard down, but second of all, I love that it seems to haunt him even past season six. Any inkling of trouble, he looks over his shoulder, out of that newfound instinct cause he’ll never be taken off guard again.

I follow some lovely people in the twitter fandom, but I've had to step back in the last few weeks. We're only four episodes in and it's entirely too early, IMO, to declare the season a failure. Things can always be better but so far I'm really enjoying what we've gotten - the handling of WA's grief over Nora, the rise of CCC, the emotional impact as the news of Barry's fate sets in. I watch for Iris, Barry and WA and will always want more of that - and I'm pretty sure we're going to get it. 1/2
What I don’t understand is assuming that we won’t get more of Iris’s feelings about Barry’s death or more WA and treating that like a foregone conclusion. Maybe last season, but we have no reason to doubt Eric at this point. The show is doing a good job dealing with the emotions around anticipating Barry’s death and I just don’t buy that Iris – his best friend, the love of his life – will be the only one excluded. The relentless negativity is exhausting. 2/2
I follow some great people in the Twitter fandom too, but I think I’m gonna have to just talk to them for the time being cause the negativity is really getting me down cause I just want to enjoy what we have for now before making an overall judgement about  6A. From BTS, it seems like we’ll get more meaty stuff in 6B, Crisis is kinda holding them back a bit cause they have to rush the lead up in 8 episodes.
I do agree with some of the concerns I’ve seen on Twitter, particularly about Iris not being allowed to voice her emotions over Barry’s fate since 6x02 and that his friends’ emotions are taking precedence over hers (when that shouldn’t be the case at all). I definitely think we’re going to see more of her emotions about what will happen to Barry in 6x07 and 6x08, Candice said she filmed a lot for both of those episodes. So it seems like they’re focusing on the team member’s reactions first, and saving Iris’s for right before Crisis cause it will be the most emotional. That reaction absolutely should happen in those episodes, but it feels off for the writers to have Iris remain silent and not talk about it in the other episodes leading up to 6x07 and 6x08. I think what would’ve helped in 6x04 is if Iris had opened up to Ralph about her emotions about losing Barry. Ralph appearing to be more upset about it didn’t sit right.
For CCC, I know there are concerns about it not being as far along as we would’ve hoped at this point. But to be fair to Eric, he kind of had to start from scratch with that, considering Iris basically just started CCC at the end of last season. Her current arcs haven’t been as fleshed out as they should be, as it seems like we’re just getting bits and pieces of what’s to come in 6B. A lot of people have pointed out that writing the article about Crisis is what jumpstarts the Citizen a big deal. From some of the tweets, it seems like people are expecting the Citizen to become a multimedia empire overnight (which it should be by now, but that’s on previous showrunners failure to give Iris storylines)
WA should be having more time together considering Barry’s about to sacrifice his life, so I’m not sure why they’ve spent so much time apart in the past two episodes. It was addressed on screen by Ralph, so hopefully there has been a reason for that. I know a lot of people are concerned that (including Iris’s emotions about Barry’s death) are all gonna be shoved into the two episodes preceding Crisis.
There’s also quite a bit of anger over the emotional Barry Joe scene we got in 6x04. I loved that scene, but a bit of the dialogue bothered me. Not sure who wrote this episode (I’ll have to check), but seems like they should’ve rewatched s1. Barry says that he’s most grateful for Joe for showing him what a good man should be. There was a line somewhere where he said “before Iris, before the team”, when Barry knew Iris long before he knew Joe, so it came off like they were lessening Iris’s importance to Barry. People were pointing out that Joe shouldn’t be more important to Barry considering he didn’t believe Henry was innocent til Barry was 25, but Iris always did. Also, seems like they were lessening what his parents taught him too. I know what they were trying to get at with that line. That if Joe hadn’t taken him in, he would’ve been all alone and been in the foster system, and his life may have turned out differently. The way it was worded though could’ve been better. Another thing is Joe’s reaction to Barry’s death was more emotional than it was to his own daughter’s in s3, which I think some people were blaming current writers for. We have to remember who the showrunner was in s3 though, so that’s who I’m blaming for that. Some people on Twitter were saying that Joe loves Barry more than his own children, based off of previous seasons.
There is a lot of good about this season that Eric has improved that were issues in previous seasons (namely 4 and 5). Barry is the central hero again, all of Iris’s storylines involve her investigating stories and building the Citizen and aren’t revolving around her relationship to Barry, emotional conversations between WA don’t happen with the team standing around staring at them awkwardly anymore, the show is acknowledging Barry’s genius by having him build a mobile Gideon unit (so much closer to making her!), he doesn’t have the team telling him what to do through the coms, he’s figuring it out on his own, he’s seen being a CSI again, the team isn’t really operating as a team anymore they’re all getting their own individual arcs outside of Team Flash, a villain who can actually act! Sendhil Ramamurthy is knocking it out of the park as Bloodwork, haven’t loved a performance like this since Teddy Sears’ portrayal of Hunter Zolomon!
I may have said this on here before, but I have a few times on Twitter. Eric inherited a mess with an already overcrowded cast, and it’s unrealistic to expect him to be able to fix that in four episodes.

MK’s Favorite Post-Grave Danger Things for @letswaitforme Part Three: Shooting Stars - (2/3)  Keep On Going (my commentary below)
Nothing too deep on this one, but I am straight up obsessed with the fan imagery in this scene. Y’all ever hear of Silent Hill? I know Nick is not a damned soul necessarily but a tortured one that I’m sure the town would have a field day with, and there would just be so many rusted, giant fans in his Otherworld. Can you imagine how weak his legs must have felt when he was going down? The dread weighing in his feet with each step. The large fan above him sucking the air out of his body, his breaths getting shorter with each passing second because he feels like he’s running out of air and needs to conserve it. The taunting words of the officer who’s escaping hell under a false sense of encouragement—why does nobody seem to remember what happened, he wonders ironically even though he wouldn’t mind forgetting it himself.
But there’s also an odd sense of...comfort in the cycling blades wafting non-comforting air into the thickening shaft, because just like the fan, he’ll keep going, only...he won’t stop.

MK’s Favorite Post-Grave Danger Things for @letswaitforme Part Three: Shooting Stars - (1/3) Claustrophobic (my commentary below)
Cheating a little with this part of the series and making three (maybe four) sets to focus on this one scene in this one episode cause it just speaks volumes to how Nick feels in his descent down into this bunker. I’ve written a fic of him having a legit panic attack once he gets down there but the subtilty of George’s performance here also just displays how uncomfortable Nick feels in this moment, the dread when he hears the officers chatting about the scene, looking back (and probably out of instinct now, because he doesn’t want to be caught off guard ever again) so many times like, “do I really have to do this?”  But he’s Nick Stokes. He does it anyway.

MK’s Favorite Post-Grave Danger Things for @letswaitforme Part Three: Shooting Stars - (3/3)  Tunnel of Lights and Death (my commentary below)
I feel like it’s a shame we never saw Nick’s recovery from the light conditioning—it’s a detail I always try to include in fics, how sudden bursts of light would definitely trigger some sort of response in him cause I mean...it was going on/off for maybe like. thirteen hours? And so I’m sure walking down this hallway, with lights fading in and out, while not as intensely, still gave his heart a start.
And then seeing the gurney go by, the bodies being carried to the surface...I’m sure he thought they’d have to get him out in a body bag, too. (also, a lead in to my next part...notice how he’s looking over his shoulder?)
