The more I think about it, the less interested I am in Vex’s reaction to Laudna. Like don’t get it twisted I definitely want to see that, but to Vex, Laudna is just a symbol of the pain the Briarwoods caused. The pain Vox Machina endured to achieve their goals. She’s a reminder of the casual cruelty that the Briarwoods were capable of before they were destroyed. And admittedly, that’s not nothing.
But Cassandra.
To Cassandra, Laudna is a physical manifestation of everything she did to the people of Whitestone while under the Briarwoods influence. Laudna was someone who lived during that time where Cassandra was actively working to make their lives worse. Laudna never got to see her atone. Launda died thinking the only de Rolo left was ambivalent at best.
Unless Cassandra was at The Dinner.
Laudna’s never brought up whether or not Cassandra was there, but if Delilah never introduced her why would she know? Laudna was a farm girl, why would she ever have had cause to know a de Rolo by sight?
It’s entirely possible that Cassandra was there, if not at the table, just waiting in the wings. It’s entirely possible that Cassandra was part of Laudna’s torture and murder. It’s entirely possible that Delilah would have taken the stringing up of her brother’s and friends effigies as a test, as proof of Cassandra’s loyalty to the Briarwoods and their vision of Whitestone. It’s entirely possible that Cassandra had a literal hand in Laudna’s death.
And then to find out that, not only did the blood on your hands (literal or metaphorical) live unaccounted for for another 30 years, unburied and uncared for while you slowly rebuilt the trust of your people, but did so with Delilah in her head the whole time? When, after only five years, your own understanding of yourself was so fractured you didn’t know where you started and Delilah ended for years afterwards?
Laudna is the stuff of Cassandra’s nightmares. And I so deeply, deeply hope they get to meet.

so the thing is
i think both Sam Riegel and FCG realized that they were entrusted with the means of emergency exit (a.k.a. The Staff of Dark Odyssey) and they done fucked up
they used up the charges needed for teleport, they weren't able to get out instead of fighting Otohan - and they decided that only FCG can pay the ultimate price for these mistakes
and this Blaze of Glory was indeed perfect.
Sam Riegel is an excellent DnD player, a superb actor and has a stunning sense for drama
FCG will be missed but Sam has all my respect!
