hi bestie! what's something neat you learned recently?

my partner is writing a sci fi story set in our system so he is doing a lot of research and is telling me many things about it. so i have recently learned that jupiter is really heavy!!! it's like, as heavy as it is possible to be without getting much much smaller. it is weirdly heavy. like most gas giants do not get this big this far away from their star. additionally jupiter has an insanely huge magnetic field partially because of an interaction between her and io, jupiter's volcanic moon!! what the fuck

why is it so big.

What's something you accomplished this week that you're proud of?

at work, i managed to put together three full (and good!) raffle prize packages from in-kind donations on very short notice! normally people would have been working on this thru the summer, but i was only just hired a month ago! so i feel very good about having made that happen. 🥰

personally, i wrote 10k words of fanfic which is something that i haven't done in a long time. it kinda feels like i might be able to do nanowrimo this year, which would be amazing bc i actually have a couple of good novel ideas???

i also winged a new cupcake recipe that turned out SOOOO well. so that was 👌🏼

hey friend! happy conversaturday! what dropout show are you most excited for in the upcoming year? & what's something that made you smile this last week?

I am hoping sincerely that "thousandaires" is a total forgiveness spinoff. I am also terrified to see it if it is, but extremely excited. I'm also hyped for the next season of GameChanger

Something that made me smile this week: when I went to pick up a book I reserved at the library I had to ask for help because I'd been staring at the reserved shelf for a while reciting "Le Guin, Le Guin" in my head and I still couldn't find it. (The "reserved" stickers cover up most of the spines)

Me: I'm supposed to be picking a book up but I can't find it. It's The Left Hand Of Darkness

Librarian: Did you check th-?

Me: Yeah, but I'm dyslexic so I might not have read the titles properly

He walked over & found it in 2 seconds flat because it was right there on the top shelf right in front of me. You just have to laugh at yourself, really.

hey-llo! what's a neat thing you've learned recently?

This isn't a particularly interesting fact but it's interesting to me: my 4mm knitting needles broke, so I went to a second hand store to find some replacements and eyeballed it to choose some new metal ones which looked the right size (8), and then I checked the back of a knitting magazine and it turns out "size 8" is exactly 4mm in imperial measurements. These needles will hopefully be sturdier than the last ones were because they're slightly heavier, so I'm assuming they're not hollow inside (or maybe they're just made with something other than aluminum).

i’ve seen multiple people say their conversaturday ask was the first ask they’ve ever gotten & that makes me a little sad. if you have five minutes, go through your notes or your dash & send people little asks. “what’s something you’re looking forward to?” “what’s something you wish more people understood about you?” “if you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?” give people the opportunity to talk about something that they’re passionate about. you’ll both feel good.

what's something interesting you've learned recently? or what's a neat creature you feel doesn't get talked about enough? :O

i just listened to this episode of throughline about how a group of slave soldiers fended off the actual mongols, who were up to that point pretty much undefeated. it was extremely interesting! i would recommend!
