lost the ask about it but stance on did criston and rhaenyra have sex in the book is i don’t know no one knows but how much i like criston is directly proportional to how insane and catholic he is so i lean no. i like yes as well, i get why the show did it, it makes his motives much more understandable and feeds into broader asoiaf themes about targ power and oathkeeping. but no - specifically with mushroom likening him to being as chaste and horrified at the idea as an aged septa (which stuck in my head because it’s so specific a choice - not septon? celibacy part of good masculinity/knightly vows but also unmasculine) - is sooo fun. i don’t think he had no feelings for her at all it’s implied they’d had a kind of chaste courtly love thing going on that he was under the impression would continue that way into perpetuity. switching out the madonna and whore in his deeply fucked brain. makes his hatred of rhaenyra a million times insaner he wants her dead and in hell for even implying he’d have sex immorally. he’s that one piece that says lancelot is like a boy who superstitiously won’t masturbate before the big game because self-flagellation through abstinence will make him play better. freak !
