Monthly Music: March 2024 A STACKED MONTH!

Music that was released in or around March!

"Damn!" Zack Bia & Teezo Touchdown. Nasty dance track that pulses in your veins and takes you over, a bit.

"Miracle" Bayside. Pretty typical Bayside track but if you want some quality yet accessible alt rock, here we are.

"Ghost - Lofi" Mystery Skulls. Remember Mystery Skulls? Here's an instrumental reconstruction of their old song to study to. Very lullaby-adjacent. They did LOFI versions of the whole album but this is the most effective transformation.

"Not Sorry" & "Edible" & "Tell Me What You Want" Flo Milli. These three tracks are very different highlights off of it. TMWYW is the most experimental beat but I think Edible is my favorite.

"I'm Ready" Chung Ha. Cunty kpop. Not her cuntiest track but... if you want a track to motivate you to work out and then do a death drop... give it a shot.

"I Can't Run" Real Farmer. This song has a raw quality--the vocals, the guitar, the bass all feel like they're stumbling past but they're going on an adventure you want to follow them on. Loud, demanding.

And the complete opposite, "Walk Like This" by Flo is smooth, slick, and a perfect update to a more nostalgic R&B vibe. Poppy and perfectly constructed.

"Kira Kira" Fancylabo. Lovely, synthetic Jpop. Perfume fans, check in here.

"Collarbone" Izzy Spears. Beats to ache to. Emo rap with a transcendental beat.

"Your Money, My Summer" Everything Everything. They released a full album and it's all great but this is a stand out for me because "God knows I wanna go home" as a refrain just... burrows into your soul and hollows out everything in its way. Alt rock. Of the non-pre-release singles, "Don't Ask Me to Beg," "Enter the Mirror" (the most commercial track, I think), & "Buddy, Come Over" are my favorites, though I loved the whole album.

"Value" Ado. If you like Queen Bee, check out this track. Ado's singing is so rich and haunting. J... pop rock? Pop opera? I don't know how to quantify Ado's sound.

"Year of the Vulture" The Wonder Years. Emos go check it out.

"Arintintin" Rico Nasty & Boys Noize. Crazy frog ass song. Horny, nonsensical, silly, horny. This mini album is kinda all over the place--a nostalgic sound without necessarily capturing the full vibe but I'm having a blast.

"Pull the Rope" Ibibio Sound Machine. Almost discordant, I think I can't do justice to describing this song, so I'll steal an excerpt from their website: "the golden era of West-African funk & disco [meets] modern post-punk & electro."

I did listen to the Beyonce album. I kinda thought some of it was... too clean? Too smooth? IDK, it needed more grit on top of the twang, but that said, stand outs for me are "Tyrant," "Daughter," "Bodyguard," "Riiverdance," and "II HANDS II HEAVEN." Also, I know I sound insane saying it sounded too slick when I normally love slick production but the very clean vocals kinda felt almost... separate from the instruments idk how to explain it.

Kavinsky fans should try listening to Justice & Miguel's "Saturnine," it has the night drive thrum.

"Digital Magic" Le Youth. Classic Le Youth sound, just good electronic music. I'm a digital feline!!!!! Overly yearning vocals for a dance track that doesn't warrant it, you LOVE to see it. For more dance music, Nia Archives has another track off her upcoming album, check out "Unfinished Business" if you want more UK drum & bass that strikes the soul.

I was gonna do a small section of throwback songs I'm into but this post is already jam packed?? So, in brief, "Shinigami" Kenshi Yonezu (fun, anime-esque Jrock), "Back on my Feet" Boom Boom Satellites (electric, intense JRock), "Dip It Low" Christina Milian (sexy 2000s pop R&B), and not quite a throwback but not from this month "Bella" Alé Araya (lowkey and yet sensual).

“are you bothered?” the dark-haired man walking beside you asks, tilting his head to crane in on your even-slight movement.

you seem to be deep in thought; for a moment his heart festers with nervousness, but the worry is short-lived at your face softening to a quiet smile, “by the rumors? no.”

it’s hard being around you, lino agrees.

you’re.. bad for his health.

but somehow, in the best way possible.

in the mornings you have class, lino walks you there. and as the rumors of your budding relationship grow, the looks and whispers became a bit too noticeable. this being the reason behind his question.

you stall before opening the door—turning to eye lino, “what are we? .. i mean.. we haven’t had sex yet..” you shuffle, licking your lips hesitantly.

“oh? so we have to have sex to be official?” you, his muse, had made his cheeks stretch into that cat-like grin that the rest of the school clambered to catch a glimpse at.

“yah! don’t think that way~” you hide your face, attempting to stave down the embarrassment of what he just said.

dropping you off to class was fun. the flirtatious banter, lino’s insatiable antics.. getting texts from his mother was not.

and just as lino has spoken of, he was mildly surprised to find the classroom nearly empty upon arrival.

quickly spotting chung hee, he patiently awaited her attention as she packed her belongings away.

her dark eyes flickered upwards at him, realizing who he was, “oh.. it’s-“i’m gonna get straight to the point. i don’t know if you have feelings for me or what, but i’m not interested in this marriage.”

long, sleek black hair that hung down by her waist with dark, nearly black cat-like eyes that stare calculating at him. she then sauntered forward, placing a hand on his chest.

“don’t worry, i don’t have the slightest interest in you or this marriage—it’s all for the bloodline, right?” and with that she stalks out of the classroom, leaving minho to gape in her wake.

today, fate took it’s toll. whether for the better or worse. because stumbling into chung hee in the middle of the hall was simply a coincidence.

The kind of girl who is as fiery as she is sweet; Nari has been called a little ray of sunshine, which is true in more tan one way. BACKGROUND / BIO

Nari Gim, known as Little Lily to her parents, and just plain old Nari to everyone else, was born in Daegu, but doesn’t remember much of her life there. Her parents decided to make the move to Merrock at the advice of family friends who loved the little town by the sea. Childhood was pretty sweet for the girl, she was bright and friendly, quickly forming a social circle for herself. Nari had cute boyfriends, was friends with cute girls, cheered for the football team, got to wear a crown for one of her winter formals, and loved to make extremely elaborate designs for home economics when it came time to learn how to sew (something she attributed to her mother, who worked as a seamstress). She loved to spend her free time arranging elaborate bouquets of wild flowers to put on the dinner table every night.

After high school, Nari decided to pursue that love of designing, chasing after her dream of fashion as she headed to New York City (with her mother and father in tow), and studied at a design school. It was there that she truly flourished, making a whole new set of friends, dating different people, and really beginning to come into herself. She was at the top of her class, and it was really no surprise when she landed herself an internship at a well-known, prestigious design firm in London, which led to Nari packing her bags and making a huge move all over again as she traveled overseas and settled into a brand new life. (This time without mom and dad.)

Not long after the move, Nari found herself slowly and then very quickly falling for one of the lead designers at the firm, Morgan. The two dated for a little while, until keeping things secret became too hard, and they just decided to come out with it, announcing not just their relationship but also the fact that they were getting married. Inviting only his family and hers, they tied the knot in a gorgeous botanical garden, and settled into living the perfect life together. They had grand ideas of the future: having children, building a beautiful house in the countryside, growing their own fashion label together… but it all came to a screeching halt after Morgan tragically passed in an accident, leaving Nari alone in London and wondering what there really was left for her in the life they had been trying to build together.

But she was never one to stay down, and soon decided to pick herself back up, moving ‘home’ to Merrock. She found the little house her family loved still unoccupied, and bought it, fixing everything up to her taste and began to pick up where her mother left off, converting the upstairs space into a makeshift studio where she could design and work on clothes for fellow Merrockites in town. Not long after, she accepted a job as a pilates and yoga instructor at Breathe In, where she had been taking classes every day, and soon after that, decided to help out at Lavender Lane for their spring flower season, which turned into a full-time position. Although it hasn’t been the life she originally envisioned for herself, Nari has found that she really has loved what she has created in Merrock – she throws dinner parties for her friends, has fresh eggs from her chickens every morning, and someday thinks she just might run for town council... or at least start attending the meetings. Why not?

… the November Full Moon passed the inhabitants of Fenrir’s Wood by without so much as a howl, with the spell holding its own and no new dreams, no new disappearances, no new murders, and no new sleepers.

And given the suspicion of the locals, that wasn’t so bad for the Supernatural community, as they were able to hide in plain sight. Do their regular thing, and no risk questions or situations.

Yet, one good month didn’t mean a chance to get cocky, as the next one came around, local covens and packs started to prepare for another night of horror, ensuring both secrecy and utmost protection.

And it doesn’t start well, with the city waking up to a total of twelve break-ins (both at business and private residences) on Monday, another ten on Tuesday morning, and another eight on Wednesday, all in the city centre and the neighbourhood Fenway.

Felton is the nearest large town outside Ashville... as in, large enough to have a Walmart, a Target and a Costco within a mile of each other.

Ashville's residents have successfully lobbied to keep such atrocities at a distance, which preserves the small-town charm but is paid for with fossil fuels and a lack of convenience.

After Blake tells me about his accident, we lapse into silence.

I turn on the radio to discourage him from breaking it and let my mind wander.

It wanders straight back to high school and the day I first laid eyes on Blake Welling.

The more I think about it, the more it makes sense that he doesn't remember me.

Back then, I was small, gangly, awkward and asthmatic.

I had braces and I wore baggy clothes and a beanie that I almost never took off.

Hell, I wouldn't recognize me now.

As the memory surfaces, I watch it play out in front of my eyes like a movie on a screen.

I'm in Phys. Ed. and we're being forced to run a mile and it's literally killing me.

I know that sounds melodramatic but asthma is no joke and physical exertion... especially on a cold January day... always sets it off.

I should have been excused from running, anyway but my dad wouldn't sign the form I brought home.

Instead, he told me I needed to 'stop being such a sissy and man-up.' Which explains why I wasn't out to him yet.

On the second lap of the quarter-mile track, I start to wheeze but I've already used my inhaler three times that day, so I try to hold off.

I'm one of the slowest runners and most of the class has already completed the mile at this point.

They're sitting on the bleachers, drinking water, talking and laughing, while I continue my lonely struggle into lap three.

The track team is also on the field and they keep passing me in a tight, disciplined group, pacing their lead runner.

I admire their backs as they go by, their bare shoulders and toned calves flashing in the cold sun.

I start the final lap when I can't hold out any longer.

My breath is whistling in my throat and there are black spots in my vision.

I reach into the pocket of my gym shorts for my inhaler and... it's not there.

I stop running and start panicking... instantly making things worse.

I retrace my steps, which is stupid because I'm on a circular track but I'm hoping I only dropped it a few paces back.

As the track team approaches once again, my legs give out and I fall to my hands and knees.

The lead runner slows and stops and his pack of team-mates stop as well.

"Hey, you okay?" he asks, bending down.

"Inhaler," I wheeze.

"I dropped..."

Somehow, he understands.

"Guys... this kid dropped his inhaler somewhere. Spread out and look for it."

He claps his hands.

"Double time," he barks.

They scatter, ranging over the field and around the track.

The leader guy stays with me and I feel his hand on my back like a hot iron.

"Hey... breathe in through your nose," he tells me.

"That's it... slow down. My guys'll find your medicine. Hang on."

A moment later, there's a yell of 'found it' from across the field and I recognize Charlie Chung from Band as he runs up and hands over the little aerosolizer that represents my life.

The leader guy takes it and gives it a good shake.

"My sister's got asthma," he explains.

"Here."

He helps me hold it to my mouth and dispenses a puff and then another.

"Good?" he asks.

I nod.

The effect is instant and within moments the tightness in my throat and lungs disappears and I'm gulping down big, easy breaths.

Runner boy pats my arm and stands.

"Okay then, take it easy."

He holds out his hand and helps me to my feet.

Then he's off again, his pack falling into place behind him once more. I stumble over to the bleachers.

It seems my moment of drama went largely unnoticed and the P.E. coach is too busy yelling at some other kid to realize that I didn't complete the mile.

I write a believable time next to my name on the clipboard and take a seat on the benches to wait for the final stragglers to finish their mandatory torment.

Every time the track team goes by, my eyes follow its leader and pretty soon I've memorized the color of his sun-washed gold hair, the smooth curves of his shoulders and the youthful male beauty of his face.

By the time I tell my best friend about how I almost died in P.E. later that evening, I've developed a bad case of boy-crush.

"That's Blake Welling," Nina informs me.

"He moved here at the beginning of the year... I think his dad's in the military or something. All the girls are after him but so far he hasn't gone out with anyone. Hey... maybe you have a chance. He might be gay."

Nina had a massive collection of 'boy's love manga' which she routinely forced me to read and her outlook on guys was 'gay until proven straight.'

So far I was the only one who hadn't crushed her dreams.

"Here, look at this one," Nina tosses me a slim volume.

On the cover, a girlish-looking boy blushes while his manlier counterpart stands behind him and shows him how to hold a tennis racquet.

"This is fantasy," I scoff, tossing it back.

"The real world doesn't work like that. In the real world, you keep your head down and your mouth shut and hope no one notices you're different. You certainly don't fall in love with the star of the track team and he definitely doesn't fall in love with you."

"You're such a pessimist, Aaron," she complains.

The thing is, I wasn't.

Not yet, anyway and maybe it was all those manga stories she made me read, giving me ideas but within a week, my boy-crush had progressed to stage-four love and I was willing to believe almost anything was possible.

*Ngáp* Lý do lớn nhất khiến dự án này ngừng lại có lẽ là không còn người nào dùng nữa! Bởi từ năm 2016, các trang chia sẻ phim đều đã chuyển sang sử dụng chuẩn nén H.264/H.265 hoặc VP8/VP9 và các chương trình giải mã chúng đều đã được tích hợp sẵn trong các dòng CPU và GPU mới nhất, khiến việc phát lại phim trở nên rất nhẹ nhàng và nhanh chóng. Còn được gọi là tăng tốc (bằng) phần cứng (hardware acceleration), tính năng này ngược với giả lập (emulator), tức là chuyển các lệnh của riêng họ vi mạch này thành các lệnh có thể thực thi bởi họ vi mạch khác. Việc chuyển này sẽ làm hệ thống bị chậm đi về tổng thể, tức là sẽ có hình phạt hiệu năng (performance penalty). Tuy nhiên, nếu thiết bị của bạn đủ mạnh thì sự chậm trễ là rất khó thấy như các trình giả lập x86 cho máy dùng ARM hiện nay.

Chả biết. Thử xin chân tối ưu hoá dòng chíp đồ hoạ rời của Intel xem. Chứ cứ bảo chia sẻ công nghệ bán dẫn chung chung thì chỉ chứng tỏ rằng bạn chả có thành ý gì về phát triển công nghiệp bán dẫn nha 🥱

*Ngáp* Rốt cục vẫn là chuyện thương mại hoá sản phẩm nghiên cứu khoa học. Đặt hàng Tàu lãi hơn. Lại còn bảo vệ môi trường nữa. Ha :)

Ờ. Intel bỏ mảng chíp cho thiết bị di động vì lợi nhuận từ phân khúc này thấp hơn dự tính nên nếu giảm mức lợi nhuận kì vọng xuống thì biết đâu lại gây được tiếng vang lớn. Có điều, việc Intel cấp phép cho bên thứ ba thiết kế vi mạch theo kiến trúc x86 (tức áp dụng mô hình kinh doanh của ARM hiện nay) nghe như trò đùa dịp Cá tháng tư 🙄
