I remember middle school mainly because I tried so hard to white wash myself. Tried to get teachers to call me Janet instead of Deyla — I even white washed the fuck out of my middle name for the love of fuck!

I even wore long sleeves all the time to try and get whiter....like I really wanna to back in time and punch myself in the face. Now I’m feeling insecure that I’m not Mexican enough.

It’s so goddamn annoying, and I cringe every time I think back to those days.
