AU-gust, Day 3: Writer
TW: References to monster smut and genitalia, Shrek
Robin’s mad at him.
(Well, mad isn’t the right word. Frustrated? Annoyed? Shocked by his enduring stupidity? All of those are probably better options.)
“Seriously, dingus? You haven’t told him yet?!”
Steve anxiously ran his fingers through his no-longer perfectly-styled coif. “I’ve tried, Robin! It’s just kind of hard to tell the guy that you’re falling in love with that you write monster porn for a living!”
It had started when he was a senior in college, reeling from his break-up with Nancy and trying desperately to find anything to distract himself from his heartbreak. It was a total joke at first, trying to find the cringiest romances he could find and reading them with Robin as they got progressively more and more drunk on whatever cheap booze he’d squirreled away from Tommy that week. But then one night he found himself in bed crying when Matthias the Minotaur sacrificed his life for his one-true love and he couldn’t stand it because Matthias deserved a happy ending after everything he’d been through and Steve had read enough of these books, for fuck’s sake, he could write a better ending!
It was just a hobby for a while, a secret shame that got him through the doldrums of working for his father while trying to figure out what he wanted to do next. Steve could never keep anything from Robin, though, and while she initially teased him for writing “monster porn,” after she read one of his stories she demanded he submit it to some indie romance publishing houses and she didn’t give up until he had done so and now – well, now Steve was making a truly obscene amount of money off of his many, many monstrous and paranormal romance books (with Robin as his editor, of course) and had kissed his shitty parents goodbye.
(And if his pen name was his father’s name, which meant that anytime someone googled “Richard Harrington” the first thing that popped up were book titles like “Prisoner of the Gargoyle’s Heart” and not his father’s incredibly influential law office, well, that was just payback for twenty-five years of bullshit.)
The thing is, Steve isn’t even ashamed of it, not really. He’s always been a kinky guy, first of all, and besides, it’s not all about the sex (although his sex scenes are some of the best in the business and he hadn’t shied away from writing queer books when the rest of the world had.) What he liked most about the stories he wrote was that regardless of what his monsters had looked like, or lived through, or done in their past, or where they’d come from, they all found someone who loved them because of their differences - because of their monstrousness – and not in spite of it.
(And yeah, okay, he liked the sex stuff too. Who wouldn’t want to fuck a dragon with two dicks? Or Prince Titian, the golden-haired merman who had both sets of humanoid genitalia? Or Neptus, the half-man, half-octopus who had all those huge tentacles - )
“Dingus. Stop thinking about Neptus.”
“Huh?” Steve asked, shaking his head. “How did you - ”
“Because I know you, Steve Harrington, and there’s only one person slash fictional entity that you get that weird horny look for and honestly, I could have lived my entire life without knowing about your tentacle thing - ”
“ROBIN, it’s not – I don’t have a tentacle thing - ”
“ – but we can deal with your weird fetishes another day, right now we need to discuss why your boyfriend still thinks that you’re an accountant and the fact that you need to tell your boyfriend about your job so I can tell my girlfriend about my job so she understands why I need so much therapy and why I know so much about your sexual preferences - ”
“Jesus, Robin, I got it, I got it!” Steve stood and headed for his minibar. “Look, it’s not – it’s not that I don’t want to tell him, it’s just – people can get kind of weird about it.”
“Yeah, and those people suck,” Robin replied as she followed after him. “But Eddie isn’t Nancy or Tommy or Cheryl or Brad or Kel, he’s Eddie.”
“Yeah, world-famous-high-fantasy-author-Eddie-Munson! He’s, like, actually legit Robin! He’s won the Hugo Award twice!”
“He also likes to go to the Renaissance fair dressed up as a faun and annoy people by playing the pipes, Steve. And you’ve seen his weird monster dildo collection which I know you have too - ”
“I know, I know!” Steve exclaimed as he poured both himself and Robin a glass of Merlot. “I just,” Steve turned to face Robin and sighed. “I’m just scared, Robin. Like, it hasn’t even been that long but he makes me feel – I don’t even know, like, I haven’t felt this way about someone since Nancy, you know? And Eddie - this feels like it could be more than that. Like a forever sort of thing.”
Robin sighed and leaned her head against his shoulder. “I know, dingus. And I know that people have you given you all kinds of shit in the past, but that’s not going to be Eddie. And if it is Eddie, I will kick his ass into the ocean and feed him to your squid-man.”
“Neptus isn’t a squid man, Robin - ”
/////
Robin was right, of course. Robin was always right.
(Except for when it came to best Marvel movie, she said Civil War when everyone knew that Thor: Ragnarok was the superior film.)
Anyways.
Robin was right, it was time for Steve to tell Eddie the truth. And Steve had known that too, knew that stretching it much longer than two months would probably end really, really badly, especially if Eddie didn’t take it well, but enough of his relationships (romantic and otherwise) had been ruined by people just not understanding or not caring enough to try to understand his stories or why he loved what he did, but Eddie was different. Successful and handsome and creative and intelligent? Sure, Steve had dated people who had all those qualities before. But only Eddie Munson spent hours on the phone with Steve’s friends, talking them through their D&D related problems. Only Eddie Munson showed up on their first date with flowers for Steve, when Steve was the one who normally had to go all out for his partner.
And only Eddie Munson would learn Steve’s favorite Taylor Swift songs in his free time (instead of the latest Metallica or Ghost) because he wanted to make Steve smile, which is what Eddie was in the middle of doing when Steve finally worked up the nerve to tell him.
“The stakes are high, the water’s rough, but this love is - ”
“Hey, uh, Eddie? I kind of need to tell you something,” Steve interrupted him as he walked into the living room, beers in hand.
Eddie stopped what he was doing at Steve’s entrance and beamed, setting his acoustic guitar off to the side. “Everything alright, angel?”
“Huh? Oh, yeah, I just – here,” Steve handed him a beer. He waited until Eddie had taken a sip (and swallowed) before continuing. “I, uh, well – look, we’ve been dating for two months now - ”
“Two months, three days and fourteen hours,” Eddie winked as he took another sip.
“ – and – right,” Steve flushed bright red at the look in Eddie’s eyes. “Right. Uh, anyways, we’ve been dating for two months and I just thought it was time to tell you and – okay, it’s not a big deal but it is kind of a big deal? But not what you’re probably thinking, I’m not, like, married or anything, I – I’m not an accountant, okay, I’m a writer!”
“I know.”
“ – not, like, a normal writer, I write – wait, what?” Steve gaped at Eddie. “You – what?!”
“Baby,” Eddie started slowly, his finger running in tempting circles around the rim of his beer, “you know I know people in the romance world, right?”
“I – what? You knew this whole time?”
“Yep,” Eddie shot Steve a sultry smirk along with another wink. “I knew exactly who you were when I asked you out, big boy. Or, I knew who Robin was and I put two and two together.”
“I – how?!”
“Baby, you didn’t even change your last name.”
Steve just sat there in stunned silence while Eddie continued to sip on his beer, a teasing gleam in his eyes. “But – I – and you’re okay with it?”
At that, Eddie’s smile grew a bit more serious, and he set his beer down on the coffee table so he could hold Steve’s hands in his. “Of course I am, sweetheart. You’re insanely talented, Stevie.”
“I – I write porn, Eddie. With monsters in it.”
“I know, it’s stupidly hot.”
“But you – it could hurt your career if people found out,” Steve said softly, sadly, squeezing Eddie’s hands. “People – people would give you so much shit, Eddie.”
Eddie squeezed back. “Steve, my nickname was ‘The Freak’ in high school. I was a poor kid with shitty parents who was raised in a trailer park. People have given me shit my entire life and frankly, I couldn’t give a flying fuck about what anyone said about you and your writing. If anything, people are going to ask me what the fuck someone as handsome and gifted as you is doing with someone like me.”
Steve snorted and Eddie let out a laugh. “I mean it! You’re like Prince Charming or some shit and I’m the ogre living in the swamp.”
Eddie froze for a few seconds before a maniacal grin overtook his face.
“Eddie?”
“Stevie, baby, have you ever considered a sexy Shrek retelling?”
“No. No.”
(“There’s an Ogre in His Swamp” was released on April Fool’s Day the following year. The author, Richard Harrington, posted a dedication in this book, the first of many that he would dedicate to his husband, E. W. Munson:
To my Ogre – thank you for being my happily ever after.)

PLEASE EXPLAIN ARCHIE KILLING A SECOND (?) JUGHEAD. THANK YOU MO
theres actually three jugheads but thats not rly relevant here. so jughead in the rivervale universe discovers that rivervale is actually a derivative universe to the original riverdale universe created from hiram setting off a bomb underneath archies bed when he was kissing betty. (this is bc they were able to prove on video that hiram is a murderer and exiled him from the town). and the riverdale and rivervale universes are bleeding into each other and will both eventually implode if not fully separated. he finds this out bc he discovers a second jugheads corpse earlier in the episode. jughead believes the best way to separate the universes is to recreate the birth of rivervale as closely as possible but an inverse meaning that he has to make vughead canon and he and veronica have to make out w each other and get exploded by a bomb under the bed. veronica agrees and they plan it out. but archie shows up and its revealed that hes the one who killed the other jughead (he also killed veronica and cheryl). this is bc in rivervale everythings different bc magic and stuff exists and thus no one who dies really stays dead (which was proven in this universe bc archie came back to life despite being sacrificed by all the rivervale residents for the annual maple harvest the trees were not producing maple syrup as per usual and they needed to sacrifice someone pure of heart.) but since archie was the one present at rivervales creation aka the explosion under his bed. in a way this makes archie one of the main villains of rivervale bc despite the risk of the universe imploding he has to prevent the universes from beign separated bc then he gets sent back to the regular riverdale universe and ultimately he believes his dad can come back in this universe (archies dad died in s4 its actually really sad bc the actor who plays archies dad died irl and they tributed that whole episode to him :( so bc of that obviously archies mission is doomed to fail.) but then betty shoots archie before he can choke this jughead to death. but then the second jughead comes back to life and solves it by making the current jughead basically keep the rivervale universe alive as long as he never stops writing aka being a human battery for the town and the other jughead loses his memory of doing any of this and goes back to the riverdale universe . and then the third jughead of course is the rivervale jughead also unaware of the wider narrative. theres also angel jughead but we dont need to get into that bc thats not really jughead it merely uses him as a visage.

in light of all my bunkerposting i just thought of something really interesting. there’s a lot of talk always about how the town requires it’s residents to stay within city limits and when they try to leave they get acted upon by horrible things to make them return. and i personally, me, i LOVE thé alive town. alive town i love youuu 😘😘 but if you wanna make another leap, another little hop skip and jump, i give you narrator jughead and the case of coraline’s riverdale.
okay so we all love to dream about the town being alive, as in riverdale being alive, but at the crux of it all it is alive partially because it is powered by a real human being - narrator jughead - down in the BUNKER where he’s churning out story after story to keep the town + and his friends alive. interestingly, at the end of their highschool journeys (spiritually the end of s4 but was the start of s5) jughead first squats in the andrews’ house, and then in the bunker, until he leaves for iowa. he then ends up in NYC, writes his debut novel, and runs out of material almost immediately.
now, bear with me. canonically, jughead considers himself a narrator in all situations. the final scenes of s1 e2 have him say “it may have looked like there were four people in that booth tonight, but i was there, and i can tell you, there were only three. a blonde girl, a raven-haired girl, and the luckiest red-headed boy in the world.” we know for a fact that jughead was there. we know that jughead narrated all of riverdale, and that he was there to bear witness and write it all down later. but i present to you this: what if he was a narrator for the first four (+3 eps of s5) seasons, and then he assumed the position of author instead?
at the end of high school, once everyone has left, jughead is alone in the bunker. everyone else is off to college, cheryl has sequestered herself in thornhill, and all the parents — at least the ones that would care about jughead disappearing, (fp, fred, mary) have all left too. jughead tells us that at the end of summer, he leaves the bunker to go to iowa. but we only know this because HE said so. no one acknowledged his leaving, no one said goodbye or anything. my point is - if the bunker is a place where things go to die, and being dead is the only way to leave the story (ben button, ethel muggs in s7 e18) jughead never left the bunker -> he “died” -> he could leave the story and therefore narrate it.
let me explain. i always wondered why there were THREE jugheads in the jughead paradox instead of two, but if original!jughead never left the bunker, he started inserting himself as a character into his stories instead of previously assuming his narrator status in-story, so now you have original!jughead (in the bunker), character-dale!jughead, and eventually in s6, character-vale!jughead. character-dale!jughead goes to NYC, publishes a book about the events of riverdale that he narrates, and he IMMEDIATELY runs out of content. but why would that happen, you say. why would a guy writing out his own future nerf himself so bad. to that end, i say, the fucker was lonely.
think of the beldam from coraline. she exists in a pocket universe of her own making, in which you cannot go beyond the borders of the world she has created. my theory is that the real archie-ronnie-betty triangle never come back from wherever they are. toni and the other serpents staying in or coming back to riverdale is not really jughead’s concern, not until they’re needed for the story. think about how out-of-character character-dale!jughead himself behaves. the other three do what they want - betty is nancy drew irl, archie is sacrificing himself like always, and ronnie is back to being rich (and she seems flatter as a character than before, which, y know, interesting). jughead, however, who was incredibly passive about the barchie situation when it happened, is suddenly unloading massive amounts of anger on betty years after it happened. something says to me that’s original!jughead writing how he wished he’d handled it the first time around, the yelling and the name-calling and everything. and why else would we know so little about betty’s job beyond TBK? why is ronnie’s life never discussed fully in-depth? why do we not know what war archie is fighting in? doesn’t it make more sense that a boy who loved reading classic novels and watching tarantino films (and in my version, never left the bunker to read a newspaper) wrote the love of his life his best friend into a imagined war that resembles something from a movie set? all of archie’s dream sequences take place in riverdale, on the football field. we never SEE archie in active combat — at least, none that looks believable.
the town draws them all back, except, really, it’s jughead drawing them all back. why is hiram a big bad again, buying up the entire town like he was in season one? why is reggie “evil” when he was actually a close friend of archie AND veronica in s4? why are bee and vee fighting over archie again? the nana rose alien bodies plot, the cheryl building and re-building thornhill, polly being murdered, even? all of these events mirror, to some extent, the events and the characters of the earlier seasons. the boy who missed his friends so much, who roamed an empty town in his mind until he decided he couldn’t live without them anymore. he goes from narrator to author because he got dead, and then he got lonely, and all his characters harken back to an earlier age - cheryl burning down the house, hiram being a direct threat to archie when that peaked in s3, polly not being around for most of it and when she was, her being just motivation for betty to act (because that’s all jughead saw of her).
and that’s where the jughead paradox happens. that’s three jugheads, one for dale, one for vale, and one for the bunker outside of space-time. for all we know, the only thing left could be the bunker where ethel and him are writing the stories, and all that’s left of the real world is 1950s riverdale. do you ever notice how tabitha can come and go despite not being dead in the original timeline? how she stays by jughead even in his worst moments, something no one in his real life ever did for him (in his perspective, at least) ?
jughead exited the story via the bunker, the living coffin. maybe by accident, maybe on purpose. but when he couldn’t find his way back to the riverdale where he had people he loved, he started writing about one instead. maybe for his next book — but more likely, to power a universe where only the town exists. nothing else. if his friends can’t leave - assigned to riverdale FBI office, wall street reputation destroyed, town needs him to run every government service, percival’s curse trapping them in the path of THE COMET — they can’t leave him. the town is alive and is feeding on jughead’s stories, and jughead never wants to be left behind (in the bunker or otherwise) ever again. and what is a wish except a story where you get a happily ever after?
a/n: i dont actually like this theory all that much. i much prefer the town being alive and trapping them all. but i just thought of it and i had to write it down.

Amoricide [Dead by Daylight Dark Soulmate AU - Trickster/Survivor!OC]
Amoricide     The act of killing your soulmate Chapter 5: Strictly Platonic Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4
CW: Danny Ghostface makes a brief appearance, canon typical violence, Trickster really hates his soulmate, I have no idea how well I wrote Leon, Cheryl, or Yun-Jin in their brief appearances in this
Tumblr media
You got used to it. Not the pain. Not the stress. Not the numbing moments as you waited for the Killer to strike. But you could get used to the Killers themselves. As horrifying as most were to look at, they were worse to try and survive. But they had patterns, and preferences, and sometimes, some would show mercy.
And then there was Ghostface, who was currently laughing and spinning a furious Leon Kennedy as if the man were a teddy bear.
“Put me down you goddamn maniac!”
The masked murderer pulled the writhing rookie cop closer to his body and rubbed the cheek of his mask against the top of Leon’s head. Leon struggled harder.
“What is wrong with you?!”
Ghostface shrugged one shoulder, lifting Leon onto the opposite shoulder. “What’s the point of murder if you can’t have a little fun with it?”
“Jesus Christ--”
Sunshine crouched back down under the window, and looked at Cheryl. Cheryl blinked, her face twisted with confusion.
“Do you think he’s gay?” Cheryl whispered, gesturing with her thumb in the direction Ghostface went off in. “He never does that to us.”
Exhaling, Sunshine shook her head. “I don’t think I wanna find out either way.”
Through the silence, a scream of pure agony that lasted far longer than it should. Sunshine cringed. Poor Leon…
“That’s a trap,” she said.
“Yeah,” Cheryl stood. “But I’ve walked into worse.”
Sunshine looked up at her. “Are you gonna be okay?”
“I’ll manage. You get working on the generators.”
“Piece of cake,” Sunshine said, and stood.
“Except for Yun-Jin,” Cheryl said, grimacing. “Saw her sneaking around, like the snake she is. Can you handle her?”
Sunshine hesitated.
“She’ll manage.”
Cheryl grinned.
And that was the last Sunshine saw of the other woman in that Trial. As she worked on generators alone, Sunshine glanced in the direction Cheryl had gone in. No screams, no laughter, no sacrifices. What was going on over there?
The generator backfired, but didn’t flare - part good luck, part years of experience. Sunshine recovered her focus, and kept at it. Someone else was at work, a generator burned to life in the dark. Sunshine’s generator followed. One generator left. No one sacrificed. This was going too well, it had to get bad, didn’t it?
Approaching the generator, Sunshine reached out her hand. Another hand brushed against her own. Her head jerked to the side.
Yun-Jin blinked at her. Sunshine blinked back.
Without a word, Sunshine broke eye contact, moved to the other side of the generator. They didn’t need to speak for this. In silence, they worked. Sunshine’s tongue burned with words she didn’t have the courage to say.
The generator roared to life.
“This is going too well,” Sunshine said. She stood, looked around. “He’s up to something.”
She looked at Yun-Jin. Yun-Jin wasn’t looking at her. Behind her? No. The older woman still crouched down in her spot. Her eyes were on…
Damn it. Her mark was bleeding again. And she didn’t have any bandages on, it was bleeding all over the place. There it is, Sunshine thought. That’s how he’ll track me down to kill me - my bloody love mark.
“Get moving,” she said, voice as firm as her heart was not. “I’m not going to follow you or anything. Who knows when the bastard is going to show up.”
Sunshine didn’t wait for an answer.
---
He tossed the knife in the air, and caught it unharmed each time. Trickster leaned against the tree, and glanced towards the light. The Survivors couldn’t see the Killers that sometimes came stalking them in the dark. It was how Ghostface always caught his prey, how Dwight’s occasional surrender was always accepted and anticipated. How he could hunt Cortez down so, so easily.
There she was now, running through the path that led to the Campfire. Trickster grimaced. Ghostface let her live this time. Didn’t look like she had a mark on her body - no. The mark itself still bled. He smiled at the sight.
She was still weak as before. Almost fell over, body heaving as she sucked in deep breaths. Her blood dripped all over the dirt. But she smiled as she looked up at the people around the fire. Her eyes lit up. Trickster looked away, and tossed the knife again through the air.
“Dwight!” Cortez said.
In the reflection of the metal Trickster watched her throw her arms around the scrawny wannabe hero. Dwight smiled, wrapped his arms around her in return. Everyone around the Fire smiled, really. Adorable.
“Oh, shit,” Cortez pulled away. “I got my blood all over you.”
Dwight laughed. “It wouldn’t be the first time,” he said, adjusting his glasses. His expression was so soft, looking at her.
Trickster smirked, dark thoughts floating through his mind. How would that soft face change, if he forced him to watch her torture? Tie her down and make him watch as he cut deep into her skin, deeper and deeper with every slice, until he saw the glint of bone? What kind of despair would he reveal? Would he beg like she would? Scream like she would? Offer to take her place?
It made him a little sick, how they looked at each other. Soft and kind. Some things didn’t belong outside of fiction.
But if this were fiction, Dwight would be Cortez’ soulmate, not him. He grit his teeth at the thought. If only. (If only he could pursue that radio girl, without having to get rid of Cortez first…)
“I shouldn’t stay,” Cortez said. Trickster tilted the knife to get a better look at her. “I want to try and scavenge supplies before…”
Cortez looked away. Trickster’s lips twisted up into a grin. Oh, if only she knew.
“Are you sure?” That was Meg. “You just got back from a Trial!”
Cortez shook her head. “I’m too wired,” she said. “I need to do something with myself. Something useful. Do we need anything?”
Dwight frowned. Shrugged. “Just… the usual stuff.”
Nodding her head, Cortez said, “I’ll be back, real soon.” She smiled, and Trickster looked away. Bitch. “Say hi to Cheryl for me, if you see her.”
“Sure…” But the frown remained on Dwight’s face, even as he watched Cortez walk away from the Fire.
Trickster straightened up against the tree, watching the direction his prey walked into. That was the annoying thing about her. Sometimes she did get away. Couldn’t find her no matter what he did. But when he found out where she’d chosen to hide, she’d never escape him again.
Dwight sighed, and Trickster glanced back towards him. The gangly bastard hadn’t moved, watching the spot where Cortez vanished into the Fog. Trickster almost pitied him. If he hadn’t known how far the man would go to protect the others, he’d almost think Dwight was in love.
Shaking his head, Dwight turned back to the Fire. He paused. Trickster shifted his attention towards it as well. His eyes went wide. Yun-Jin, looking pristine as always, aside from the dirt as she pushed herself up from the ground. When did she show up? Ghostface must’ve gotten sick of her, too.
“Uh, welcome back?” Dwight said.
Yun-Jin grimaced, looked towards the other.
“Where’s Cortez?” she asked.
Trickster blinked. Dwight shifted backwards.
“She just left,” Meg said.
“Yeah,” Dwight said. “She’s gone scavenging.”
Yun-Jin grimaced. Shook her head, her short hair waving in the dark.
“You okay?” Dwight said.
His former producer snorted. “Nothing you need to be worried about.”
She didn’t look back as she vanished into the Fog herself. Trickster frowned, twirling the knife within his fingers. Now what got into her…? He could think of at least one option but nothing too concerning. Yun-Jin kept to herself. If she’d made the connection between his mark and Cortez’s, she wasn’t the type to go out of her way to talk about it. And wasn’t that a good thing? Last thing he needed was Cortez getting ideas, if she found out the truth…
Speaking of Cortez. If he were quick, he’d catch up to her… And when he did. He smirked.
The radio played on and on. Coat draped on the back of his chair, Trickster licked the blood off his knife and fingers, waiting for DJ Sunshine to return. She wouldn't get so lucky next time he stopped by her station...

what are ur favorite choni headcanons? or fanon interpretations? whenever im reading fics im a sucker when its written that cheryls treatment of toni is unique to only toni, like no other girl wouldve ever gotten that same devotion from her
well, that's not a headcanon, that's just canon. she was willing to sacrifice minvera to save herself while she sacrificed herself to save toni, and even heather didn't get any pet names or grand sacrifices and had to listen to her cry about toni even when she was ~moving on. the way cheryl was with toni wasn't how she is with a girlfriend, it's how she is with toni and nobody else.
anyway, not sure i have many off the top of my head, but the few i can think of:
toni asked cheryl to officiate the wedding because she was hoping she'd sabotage it and save her but she missed the memo that cheryl was mature now
toni unofficially moved into thornhill during senior year in the 50s. she still technically lived with her grandma, but she slept over with cheryl most nights
there was no donor for dale, he was conceived through the magic of soulmateism and genetic witchery
their first time in the original timeline was in california on their roadtrip and idk about the 50s, but i think their first ILY in the 50s was sometime in the musical, after everything that happened in 713
britta existed in the 50s timeline but lived in oakland and she showed up at their house for one of their lesbian meetings and they took her under their wing once again
i refuse to believe cheryl didn't invite toni over to meet jason in that brief period of time he was alive again in s6

So, I loved the finale...BUT! Hear me out.
Jason walking Betty through her last day instead of Narrator Jughead.
Betty dies in her sleep and wakes up to find Jason Blossom standing at her bedside. He smiles.
"Jason--? But you're..."
"Yes, Betty. And so are you."
He takes her back to Riverdale, to the past. Part of me wants it to be more like Our Town where Betty can't change anything because I love the pain of her having to watch herself live normally when she knows, in death, that didn't (and couldn't) appreciate what she had when she had it. But her sort of straddling the line between being there and this being nothing more than a memory is fine too. I'm not super picky about that.
Much of it plays out the same with her seeing all of her friends and remembering what became of them.
However, when we get to Cheryl, Jason talks a little bit about how much he loves her. He tells Betty how proud he is of her. As an addition to Cheryl's story, Jason tells Betty that she still carried out the occasional arson when the mood called for it.
"And what about Toni?"
Jason winks.
"Well, who do you think drove the getaway car...or motorcycle?"
"They were always a pair, weren't they?" Betty muses.
"Sometimes change means burning everything down and starting over. Cher Cher has always understood that, but she hasn't always known how to rebuild, not really. Thankfully, she has Toni and always will."
Betty then asks,
"Why didn't you come back? When Angel Tabitha brought us here?"
Jason chuckles.
"Well, Betty. I did die twice, you know. Not to mention being sacrificed to Moloch. Let's just say, I've been otherwise engaged. But honestly, I'm glad I didn't come back. Without me, Cheryl was able to be herself instead of drowning in my shadow. Besides, it's not like we never--Ah, I'm getting ahead of myself."
"What do you mean?"
"You'll see."
They continue their tour with many of the same scenes. Betty echoing Emily's doubts and pains about reliving her old life are good. More Our Town references are fine and encouraged.
Archie still reads his silly poem. Jason and Cheryl laugh together at the line about him being kept in the "cellar".
The rest plays out as it does with the visit to Pop's grave. Jason looks up and we see Narrator Jughead.
"Hey Jughead." Jason smiles.
"Do you mind if I cut in?" He asks.
Jason disappears and Jughead joins Betty on the bench in the graveyard. He seems very sad, like he does't want to say goodbye to her. Perhaps that's why he sent a proxy. Saying goodbye is very hard.
They talk about what became of them in the 50's timeline, as it plays out in the show.
Betty then goes from location to location saying goodbye.
Finally, it's time to go to Pop's. Jughead takes her there.
Jason lets her in and everyone is there, just like it was in the episode. One small difference is Jason sitting at Cheryl's and Toni's table. He and Toni are sharing a joke at Cheryl's expense.
And then Narrator Jughead plays us out.
So yeah, that's probably my ideal finale. I really, really wanted something to be tied up with Jason. He's the inciting incident and his significance to the opening of the story would lend itself to being very significant at the end, I think.
Thanks for reading. <3

Why do you like Yakou so much? (Not saying I judge your opinion)
Before the game released, I already hopelessly attached myself to Yakou. His design instantly caught my attention when the illustrations were released. I couldn't stop myself from holding a grudge with the marketing as Yakou was omitted from a lot of the trailers due to his smoking. I planned to cosplay him out of spite and dedication, and that plan is coming into fruition as we speak (but that's a story for another time).
I've always found myself attached to parental figure characters, those who instinctively guide and protect while freely showing a soft side. Harry Mason from Silent Hill and Ethan Winters from Resident Evil 7 & 8 are two examples that immediately come to mind. They're both fathers who go through hell and back to save their kids, inevitably sacrificing themselves for their protection. Their legacies live on in the ones they looked after, remembrance of their mentorship providing a boost of strength. If this rings some bells, it echoes a lot of my past discussion of Yakou's character and his dynamic with Yuma. Harry and Cheryl/Heather Mason; Ethan and Rose Winters; Yakou Furio and Yuma Kokohead. Just some father figures with their supernatural kids heh.
It also comes down to Yakou being Just Some Guy™, another character archetype I enjoy. Among all these super-powered detectives, Yakou gets by with his street smarts and his training at the WDO. With hard work and a deep passion for his career, he passed the exam and became chief of his own agency. Despite having no special ability, he still made it farther than many other detectives could. Also he's incredibly funny when his dialogue is meant to be comedic! Desuhiko's DLC was an absolute joy because the interactions between Yakou and Desuhiko made me laugh more than I ever thought it would. The DLC would've lost a lot of its charm without it.
I know I've rambled about this to no ends so I'll keep this part short, but Yakou's storyline interweaving with Yomi's is my favorite plot point in all of Rain Code. The way these two's actions mirror each other's as they fight for revenge enraptured me while I played. Analyzing their dynamic satisfied my cracked-up writer brain to no end. I spent much less time worrying about the homunculi project than I did writing paragraphs exclaiming my awe at how Hitman Zilch fit right in to mirror Fink! Before I go off the rails, I'll settle down here. I hope this served as a decently thorough explanation of a fair amount of my points for liking Yakou. Ramble over!

Is it just me or was Archer really good last night? I mean I have enjoyed every season, even the coma years, and I've never been unhappy with the show, but these last two years I've gotten the sense that it was coming to an end because it all just felt sort of...tired?
Maybe that's not the best word to use but I think you get my point. But last night I felt like everyone, writing, acting, animation, all just really brought their A game. The episodes were hysterical. There were some classic Archer moments like Cheryl with her needles and the flawless transitions between plots. The fact that Archer is probably no longer the only member of the gang on the no fly list...classic. Though none of the silliness sacrificed any of the actual character work we've seen these past couple of years, which is always nice to see in an animated show.
I'm really looking forward to the rest of the episodes!

"At the Maple Harvest Festival, Frank and Alice are propositioned by Cheryl with a chance to be together, unencumbered by the past, but only if they help her return Rivervale to the old ways. They do this by bearing witness to Cheryl cutting out Archie's heart and sacrificing him to the Maple Maiden.[1]"
Everything I learn about Riverdale is the absolute pinnacle of camp. Mama this is high art.

It was just another trail, yet this time Leon was stuck with the newest arrival. Not that the male had minded it in the slightest, he was just weary on how this match was going to go. Cause one wrong move, one mistake was all it took for the trail to go terribly wrong. That was something he learned pretty quickly, something they all learn sooner or later. But as Leon listened to Elena's, Steve's, and Cheryl's conversation, there was an audible sigh that escaped his lips as he shook his head. ❝Don't think you have much of a choice, you're going to be tested quite a lot. And believe me, you wanna do whatever you can to survive cause being sacrificed is never a fun experience. And that kind of thinking doesn't help matters any, cause if you think you can't then you won't but if you think positive then you just might.❞

reasons riverVALE characters decided to sacrifice archie to a maple syrup god:
cheryl - so there’d be more maple syrup. also she was mad at him because his ancestor was one of the three main people who killed her ancestor and he refused to apologize.
veronica - to prove to reggie that she was over archie (who is her ex)
betty - so she could get pregnant? with his child??
toni and fangs - so cheryl would give them a salve to stop their baby from crying (the other options to stop their baby crying were put a frog in it’s mouth and leave it in the woods overnight)
alice and uh. archie’s uncle who’s name i forget. maybe frank - frank used to be a mercenary and it got his wife and daughter killed so he didn’t want to date alice even though they liked each other because he was afraid she’d die too (even though he is no longer a mercenary). and somehow sacrificing archie would protect alice so they could date idk
jughead and tabitha - they had bedbugs

s6 of riverdale fucking RULES and this is for like three reasons. 1. The concept of the squad and friends suddenly and inexplicably getting superpowers just so they can fight some guy named percival perry is. Indescribably funny. And the execution of this is even funnier because everybody is so extremely chill about it. Nobody bothers to question WHY they all have superpowers now and it’s hysterical. 2. Tabitha my best friend tabitha who is so interesting and cool and has the lamest boyfriend imaginable. And. 3. Literally everything going on with Cheryl. She’s got a cult. She’s sacrificing Archie to the maple syrup goddess. She’s a witch. She’s setting shit on fire with her mind. She’s been possessed by the ghost of her lesbian ancestor. She’s reconnecting with her childhood friend whomst is ALSO a witch. She’s living life to the fullest and I love her for it.

The Sweet Hereafter & Rivervale
Ok. Hear me out.
Something that always bothered me about Rivervale is that it's a town "where everything is as it should be". That's an interesting statement.
Did the dead really go to the Sweet Heareafter? I wonder.
The promo for the next episode shows Betty "being evil", which really speaks to her character in Rivervale. As in, Betty in Rivervale was perfectly ok sacrificing Archie for the town and her unborn child. I'm not sure how much that connects her to the Whore of Babylon bit, but I do think her sacrificial costume and the image of the Whore that we see from the book are similar enough to give me pause. Not only that, but Archie and Betty are getting married in Rivervale. Same as the Sweet Heareafter.
You know what else bothered me? Vegas.
Where else did Vegas pop up recently? Rivervale.
Also Jason. He was also alive in the Jughead Paradox.
So, if Rivervale is a town "where everything is as it should be" and there are some connections, how is that different from Jughead's description of the Sweet Heareafter? He says it's the ideal Riverdale. Coincidence? Maybe...or maybe there is something there.
One more thing. Isn't it odd that ONLY Jughead went to the diner in the sky? It's possible the burger actually killed him and everyone else just went to Rivervale.
A few more questions:
Can we trust Heather? Is she not a demon summoned by Percival? Has he ever said anything about her at all?
What was the fog about? The fog rolled in to Riverdale and some strange things happened, but one of them was that Tabitha could hear Rivervale Jughead on the radio. Would that mean that Moose and Penelope, who both showed up with the fog, are not real?
Why is Jughead in Archie's house in The Jughead Paradox? He wakes up in Archie's house, goes downstairs, a bomb goes off, and he wakes up in the garage. This scene is never explained. What does it mean?
Is Abagail really trapped in that doll? Maybe she is, but I think there might be more to her story.
Is Cheryl actually magic? There are subtle hints that the Blossoms have been magical since season 1 and all the business with saving the groves, saving Archie from the mines, and her bee thing happened before the bomb went off. What's that about? Is she, as she herself suspected, a living saint?
Back to the Jughead Paradox. How are there high school versions of all the cast at the high school when there are also adult versions of them? (There's something threatening about Jughead's conversation with Ben Button too.)
Also. Just a side note: Cheryl dies in Rivervale and she had BETTER NOT DIE in Riverdale. Though, considering she brought Polly and Jason back....I'm nervous. Really nervous.
I know this is long. Sorry. Haha. I'm truly perplexed though and fascinated. Just trying to make sense of it all.
