Remember the very beginning of 2023, when I got my CD of Daniel Kitson's Shenaniganagain, listened to it twice in a row, and lost my mind partly from the confusing complicated plot but mostly because he kept interacting with some mystery voice that was almost familiar but I couldn't quite grasp it? And it happened to hit that exact part of my brain that drives me nuts, the same part of me that has put so much time into trying to hear minute differences between regional accents even when I don't have the aptitude for it, because I have terrible auditory processing skills but wish I had good ones and keep (incorrectly) believing I can make up for this with enough manual effort (it's not completely incorrect, a few years ago I could not tell an English accent from an Irish one, now I can basically tell Northern English from non-Northern English from Welsh from Northern Irish from non-Northern Irish from Glaswegian from misc. Scottish - though Glasweigan I've been able to recognize since I was a teenager because of The Thick of It - but I can't do more than that no matter how hard I've tried). And this got to the same part of my brain, where I felt like I should be able to decode the sound of someone whose voice I definitely know, but I couldn't do it.
I was going to post this as a reblog to the post I made about this a year ago, but I just found that post again and it's so long and rambling and ridiculous that I cannot bring myself to reblog it and bring the whole thing back. I'm just going to copy-paste the relevant bits, which are already too much.
Well, I’ve listened to it. Twice, because it’s one of those ones that requires an immediate repeat listening. Fucking hell. There was so much going on in that. God damn it. Do you ever listen to something so good it that it actually annoys you? It’s like that thing they described on QI, where when you see an overwhelmingly cute kitten you kind of want to punch it.
There’s just not much point in writing my thoughts about something that no one reading this will have heard or will have the option of hearing, which is annoying because I have a lot of thoughts. So many thoughts. Fucking confusing Eternal Sunshine unreliable narrator timeline jumping ambiguous ending shit. Weirdly my most pressing question is who the hell was the other voice actor? I think it was Isy Suttie. It would make sense for it to be Isy Suttie, it's always Isy Suttie. There were a few times when she’d say a few words and I’d think, “Oh, it’s silly that I was confused, that’s definitely her.” Then other times I thought, “It’s definitely not, I don’t know why I could have thought it was.”
Near the end, he tells us he’d adjusted the person’s voice via whatever audio editing skills he’d picked up while not leaving his house. So it’s probably just Isy Suttie and it sounds not quite like her because the voice is disguised. The voice definitely sounds female, and that New York Times article refers to her as a “female friend” (an article that I saw because don’t think I didn’t try to look up who she is, though of course now that I’ve said "it's not as easy as just finding the answer on the internet, I've checked and it's not there", it’ll turn out I’ve missed something very obvious and it says right on the front page of his website that it’s Lorraine Kelly). But you can change anything with enough audio editing, right? There were about three different times when I could swear the person spoke with the exact cadence of Tim Key. Like I think this is how Tim Key would sound if you raised his pitch.
I don’t actually think that, because taking Tim Key’s voice and editing it to sound like a female version of himself would be a ridiculous thing for Daniel Kitson to do. But also, I’ve listened to Trifle, so I believe Kitson is capable of just about any degree of fucking with us. Trifle had me demanding to know whether he’d invented Tim Key just for that radio show.
It’s almost definitely Isy Suttie, with the voice a bit distorted. If I hadn’t listened to Trifle I’d just assume it was her. If I hadn’t listened to Trifle I’d assume he really was recording birds in the forest when he claimed he’d done so, instead of getting to that bit and immediately regarding it with suspicion. If anyone has happened to get their hands on a recording of this show, and has a guess as to who that other person is, please let me know. Given Kitson’s history, it could be fucking anyone.
Yeah it was just his own voice. It came up while I was talking to someone yesterday, I set him a sample of the second voice, and literally less than a minute after I sent it, he sent me back the same clip but edited and it sounded exactly like Daniel Kitson's normal voice. That's the worst part, he didn't even do much to it. Literally just raised the pitch, apparently. So it took someone else less than one minute to lower the pitch in Audacity and get it back to the original, which Daniel Kitson sounding completely normal.
I did try that myself last year, for the record. I put that sample into Audacity and tried doing things to it. But I think I was thrown off by him saying on the CD that he would significantly distort the person's voice. I figured he'd have done a bunch of things to it, so I'd have to try a bunch of other things if I want to turn it back into the original, I tried a few things with multiple layers and it didn't help so I just gave up. Did not occur to me that I could try just lowering the pitch a bit and doing literally nothing else to it. I'm not great at audio editing, I can sometimes use it to remove a bit of noise on a rough quality recording, but I apparently do not have the audio processing or the audio editing skills to hear when you just need to make one type of adjustment that takes one minute.
Mystery solved, it's all okay. I do have a long list of Questions for Daniel Kitson that I'd love to put to him at the Tree Q+A he's doing this Sunday, none of which are reasonable things to ask at a Q+A for a movie screening so it's a good thing there's an Atlantic Ocean stopping me from attending. But at least I can knock one of the questions off my list. And maybe sleep at night again. All that effort and it was just his own fucking voice. Not even well disguised.

DISCLAIMER as of the making of this post Tiger Rock is the most recent tales book (thanks to leaks) and Security Breach RUIN has not released yet, so any lore reveals from Ruin or future Tales From the Pizzaplex books may invalidate some of this timeline or confirm it. We're piecing together an unfinished puzzle, so not everything is gonna be 100% accurate. I also have not read through Tales from the Pizzaplex myself. My knowledge comes from a fan wiki.
Hello everyone! I've spent the past few days working on a timeline that incorporates the tales from the pizzaplex books (up to Tiger Rock) into the game timeline! Now, some of these placements are just my best estimates or guesses. Some stories don't have a lot to go off of for a specific year or even range.
Before we get into this, I'm gonna explain a few things
The stuff in brackets is where the event is from. The message bags from Security Breach don't have brackets
Anything with a * by it is something I'm not 100% sure on. All placements in the timeline are based on what I could find on the wiki pages for the Tales stories and are based on dates and attractions plus some context clues.

Now, a little elaboration.
From Fnaf 3-Bleeding Heart is all 2023, we know this because the pizzaplex opens in 2023 according to the Storyteller. (There's an error in the book stating 1983 was 30 years ago, but the wiki has this corrected to be 40 years ago, leaving us in 2023. The pizzaplex can't open any sooner as Help Wanted takes place during its construction, and fnaf 6 is located under the pizzaplex, meaning it has to be after the events of fnaf 6.) Bleeding Heart takes place at an unspecified Christmas at the Pizzaplex, and I feel it's most likely the end of year one as there isn't any sign of anything from the game.
The Mimic Epilogues all take place during the construction of the Pizzaplex, possibly alongside Fnaf VR Help Wanted. (Depending on if the Mimic1 program works as a huge hivemind, with Glitchtrap being able to split off from the body before the epilogues) During the epilogues the fnaf 6 Pizzeria is covered by cement due to the Mimic going rogue and ripping the construction workers apart after ripping apart and piling up the remains of the scrap animatronics and any other junk (possibly linked to The Blob?), only leaving one vent as a possible entrance. This explains why Vanny later needed Freddy to clear the path to get down there and possibly either repair the body with Bonnie's parts, put Glitchtrap in it to reunite him with his body, or both. Interestingly, the Glamrocks were originally delivered here, and the Mimic already had a new rabbit head. Could the new head be the original Bonnie's, and its old head be in the parts used to create Glitchtrap? Whatever the case, it's likely these abandoned original Glamrocks later became the endos guarding the fnaf 6 pizzeria in Security Breach.
GGY takes place 3 years after the Pizzaplex opens as a therapist who is mentioned in the story was hired when it opened, and it's been 3 years since she started. GGY has clear links to Patient 46 and the Retro CDs, meaning that they, and by extension, Fnaf AR have to take place over the first 3 years of the Pizzaplex being open, ending in 2025.
As odd as it is for Tiger Rock to take place after The Storyteller, it IS the case. Tiger Rock and Nexie both happen simultaneously, 3 weeks after the Storyteller. We know this as the Storyteller is being taken down during Tiger Rock and Nexie. The Storyteller take-over also causes these two stories to happen.
Fnaf VR Help Wanted and the Storyteller both have to take place before Fnaf AR as in the Fnaf AR emails it's mentioned that Fazbear Entertainment are calling off all contracts with outside companies, especially ones involving vintage parts after the Glitchtrap virus spreads through the Fazbear Funtime Service (fnaf AR) systems. (Mimic1 circuit boards and the Mimic1 program as a whole)
The message TORN PAPER is found outside of the Michael Afton room in the Utility Tunnels, I placed it after The Storyteller as in that room there is a wall code very similar in description to the one Edwin wrote in his final moments. It's possible (since according to cut fnaf ar emails Michael is alive) that Michael Afton replaced Edwin or Mr Burrows on the board and is now running things, and ordered the creation of that room so he could attempt to stop the Mimic. It's also possible he was already around and just stepped up afterwards. Either way, at the very least, the code was likely written in that room after the Storyteller. I believe "the key" is either referring to the Retro CDs, the code, or something in Freddy and Friends on Tour. After all, the cartoon is playing in the room.
Despite Bonnie being absent in even the earliest Tales From the Pizzaplex books according to the wiki, I placed his death close to Security Breach as there are no Tales attractions mentioned in the note MISSING, which tells us the route Bonnie took before his dissappearance. The Glamrock's upgrades all likely come after Bonnie's disappearance. I think the most likely possibility is that Monty REQUIRED an upgrade to play the bass, and then the other bots got upgrades afterwards, inspired by Monty, ending with Chica as hers was a catastrophic failure.
The Arcade Conspiracy likely takes place between Vanessa being hired and the All Staff Meeting, as the person writing the messages may be Luis Carbera from the Fnaf AR emails. Even without that connection, it has to be here as they're attempting to "free the princess," and she should supposedly recognise them.
At the very least, the Wind Up Music Man prototypes have to have broken out after Vanessa was hired as she's the one who wrote one of their messages. The same goes for the missing kids.
The final message about the missing kids mentions a re opening, meaning the Pizzaplex temporarily closed. I think it's most likely this happened between the Storyteller and GGY as we don't have much information about the second year the Pizzaplex was open.
The All Staff Meeting has a few hints towards something sinister going on, from a trashed room with a message from this set in it, to cake, mentioned in this set, bring in the endo basement and on a hidden endo. It's likely the employees were set up by Vanessa or Gregory to get disposed of by the Glamrock Endos. This has to be after any nighttime employees as they were all fired and potentially killed in this set of messages. The daytime staff remain.
The sinkhole messages set has to take place right before Security Breach, as the final message mentions plans to dig down underneath Roxy Raceway the next morning, which would uncover the old Pizzeria. Security Breach likely takes place the night after this message.

Blog 07: The Music in Nature & The Nature in Music
Hi everyone! Welcome back to my weekly blog for ENVS*3000, and this week’s blog will be focusing on the presence of music in nature, and vice versa. Before I begin sharing my views, it is important to truly understand what music exactly is. Music is defined as “vocal, instrumental, or mechanical sounds having rhythm, melody, or harmony” (Merriam-Webster, n.d.). My interpretation of this definition is that music is not just limited to songs or albums, but it is in fact present everywhere, even if we do not immediately notice it.
When I had initially read this week’s prompt, I had recalled my past experiences of when I was present in nature and truly happened to observe, as well as appreciate, its “music”. I believe that music is present all throughout nature and that music in nature is a reflection of how our environments and ecosystems work together to remain harmonious and keep balance constantly restored. In terms of music in nature, we all may share differing perspectives on what music is. However, a key example that comes to mind for me, and I am sure for many of you as well, is the birds chirping at early dawn, since they are beautiful sounds that sound so melodic to the human ear, even though it is just a form of communication between birds. An essay published by Gray et al. discussed a rather interesting point about this which stated that our appreciation of bird sounds is due to the fact that sometimes the pitch is similar to the music we listen to (Gray, Krause, Atema, et al., 2001). This makes sense because I think that many of us would appreciate sounds in nature that are similar to our music preferences! The chirp of the birds is often an association that warmer weather is near and it also acts as a window to my childhood when I would often spend time outdoors with my cousins which serves as a fond memory when I look back, even though it sounds so melodic to the human ear, it is simply a form of communication for birds.

To answer the second prompt for this week’s blog post, I think that our personal views surrounding what is nature in music can shape how we identify it! I think that music has the power to reach many different individuals and convey a message or make people feel things on a deeper level. Although nowadays we have access to many different streaming platforms for music (e.g. Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora), I think for many of us our first experiences with music was through the radio, CDs, or even cassettes, and I found that “Radio’s greatest advantages come from its potential to reach many people, its high local interest, and its inherent flexibility in targeting specific audiences.” (Beck et al., 2018, Chapter 8: Interpreting to the Masses, pp. 175). In terms of nature in music, I think that this would include the use of certain sounds that can be found in nature, as well as through the use of literary devices to set the stage so the listener is able to use their imagination.
For a fun add on, a song that takes me back to a natural landscape is a song from Taylor Swift’s album folklore called “the lakes”. This bonus track includes imagery to further support the themes within the song. Lyrics that represent nature within the song are “I want auroras and sad prose / I want to watch wisteria grow right over my bare feet” (Genius, 2020) and “A red rose grew up out of ice frozen ground” (Genius, 2020) which adds an additional layer of depth to the woeful music and lyrics. An analysis of the track stated that “The lyrics allude to the necessity to disconnect from daily life and seek refuge in nature in order to recharge and rediscover one's way forward.” (Bushra, 2023, pp. 2) and this is how we often view nature since it acts as an escape from our daily rigamarole.

I hope I was able to provide insight as to my views surrounding the associations between nature and music. I think that these simple observations can make life all the more enjoyable.

chikyunokikiは2010年結成、2013年にInimitableレーベルより1st Album「Layer」、2016年にTOWER RECORDS Eggsレーベルより2nd Album「BALL」をリリース。既にこれまで”RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL PROVO ステージ”や”しゃけ音楽会”といった野外フェスティバルへの出演や、日本各地でのライブツアーなど様々な現場での演奏を経験。そして現在は札幌のライブハウス”SOUND CRUE”を主な拠点とし、”the hatch”、”BENBE”、”showmore”、”浪漫革命”、”LAUSBUB”といった多才な面々との共演を重ね、コンスタントなライブ活動を展開している。
Inner Scienceはクラブ/ギャラリー/野外など様々な場所でライブを行いながら国内外のレーベルから作品をリリース。2022年にはフランスの”Cosmocities"からJoe GoddardとMap.acheのリミックスを搭載した12inch EP「Cosmo Tracks」、セルフレーベルから10枚目となるオリジナル・アルバム「Self Titled」、2023年にはアメリカの"Pearsoll Peak"からオリジナル・サウンドコラージュ作「Assembles 25-28」、ドイツのKompakt傘下レーベル・”PNN"からデジタル EP「Sun Tracks」、そして同じくセルフレーベルからアンビエント作"Ambient Yellow"を発表している。
それぞれの場所で活動を続けている両者が交わることになったきっかけは、chikyunokikiの1st Album「Layer」制作時におけるレーベルからInner Scienceへのリミックスオファーが始まりとなる。その後、札幌や東京でのライブ共演をはさみつつ、長らくそのリミックスを気に入っていたInner Scienceからの声がけにより2021年夏頃から本作の制作がスタート。
そこから2年の月日を重ねてついにリリースされることになる本作は、すべての楽曲の中心にヴォーカルが据えられつつ、その周囲で時に寄り添い包みこむように、時に前のめりに鼓舞するように楽器群や電子音が散りばめられ、それぞれの単独作でもリミックスでもプロデュース作でもない、まさしくコラボレーション作品として双方の個性が高純度で混ざりあう唯一無二のアルバムとなった。
また、この世界観を更に拡大/拡張するようなアートワークは、chikyunokikiと同じく札幌を拠点に活動するアーティスト"tacbluemonkey”の手によって今作に向けて描き下ろされた作品となる。
