Cars 3 Headcanon 5

A few years after his and Cruz's joint victory, Lightning McQueen finally made the decision to slow down. He took himself off of the track after he finally came to terms with the rapid advancement of the world of racing. However, it was impossible to keep him away from the pits. He spent all of his time focusing on making sure Cruz had all of the support that she needed to better herself both on and off the track. In essence, he became a guardian to her. It was a role that he shared with her Sponsor, Tex Dinoco.

Tex had made sure to look after Cruz since the day he invited her into a sponsorship with Dinoco, but he felt just as responsible for McQueen as he did for her. He had watched him traverse his career, transforming cockiness into kindness and humility. He could not have been more proud of the boy, and he knew that Cruz could not have a better crew chief.

After a race involving another win for Ramirez and the compulsory celebrations that followed, Tex gave Lightning the Rusteze training centre. Lightning was absolutely blown away by this gesture, but Tex simply held a calm and gentle demeanour, stating he wanted him to do good things with the new position as CEO. And Lightning promised to do just that.

Tex has mentored McQueen in the roles and responsibilities of a CEO, making sure he had support to fall back on if he ever needed it. The two of them, along with Cruz, are as thick as thieves to this day.

It's the "Sheriff was the only one to know about Doc's past" vs. "Sheriff didn't know everything, but knew enough that he knew not to pry and wasn't mad when the truth came out" vs. "Sheriff didn't know anything but they had been together for so long, and Doc promised to spend the rest of his life making it up to him, but died before he could fulfill that promise" vs. "Sheriff and Doc split after the events of Cars 1 which made the events leading to Doc's death all that much painful for the both of them in ways that neither would ever be able to fully describe" debate that keeps me up at night

Cars 3 Headcanon 2

Miles Axelrod and Sterling Dunn became very close when Sterling reached his years of young adulthood. His family came from a wealthy and successful background with a capitalist mentality: push hard, and you will be rewarded. So they pushed him as hard as they could, sacrificing his childhood to ensure he became as much of a successful businessman as his father. It was cold and in many ways cruel.

But when Miles met him, he saw a young man with extraordinary potential and wanted to develop that in a more positive way. he saw an opportunity to give him what he never had: real positive support. So he became his mentor, and eventually his close confidant. Sterling learned so much, and Miles opened up to him about who and what he truly was. And Sterling did not see him any differently. For Miles, this was the first time in his life that he had not been shunned for simply existing as what many would call the dregs of society. And he was very happy.

But it was ripped away when Sterling accidently let it slip to his family. And they prevented him from further contact with Miles. Sterling had no choice. So he left Mile's side, his support and his friendship. This was the last straw for Miles. Its what truly turned his perception of the world into a state of utter unbridled hatred and started what would be a very long and painful end to his career and life as he knew it.

Sterling was thrust back into the system of business brutality formed by his family, which warped his views and made him the formidable businessman that he is today. Eventually, every shred of decency that Miles had taught him was broken down and twisted into corporate greed.

Maybe, if Sterling had of stayed around Axelrod, he could have kept McQueen as a sponsored party. Maybe even a friend. And Miles would of potentially motioned his life to help others, rather than try and take global financial control. He most certainly would not be in prison.

When Sterling heard the news of his old mentors incarceration, he went to visit him in the prison he was being held in. And to his surprise, his appearance was well received. They spoke at length, rekindling a small piece of their old bond. Sterling keeps a photo of the two of them on a shelf in his office, so as to never forget the good times, and to serve as a small reminder that things could have been a lot better.

They both write to each other as often as they can.
