Sinopsis: Espectacular reconstrucción de la vida de
Nicolás II (1868-1918), el último zar de la dinastía
de los Romanov, y de su esposa Alejandra, durante los
años de corrupción, opresión y miseria que desembocaron
en la Revolución bolchevique de octubre de 1917. Yvonne
Blake, ex-presidenta de la Academia de Cine Española,
recibió un Oscar por su enorme trabajo en vestuario.
El Zar Nicolás II (Michael Jayston) deberá enfrentarse
a la revolución Rusa. Con Alejandra (Janet Suzman),
siempre a su lado desde su boda en 1894. Sin embargo,
el pueblo ruso no está tan contento. Aunque todos
muestran simpatía por Nicolás, no es así por Alejandra
cuyos orígenes son alemanes. Cuando da a luz al futuro
zar ruso, el príncipe Alexis (Roderic Noble), el pueblo
parece aceptarla un poco más. Debido a la enfermedad de
su hijo hemofílico, decide poner toda su fe en Rasputín
(Tom Baker).
Críticas:
En cuanto a puesta en escena, calidad de imagen, guión,
vestuario, música es espectacular. Los actores de lujo,
Laurence Olivier y la ejemplar actuacion de Tom Baker
por el personaje de Rasputín.
Un claro ejemplo de cine histórico.
