Can you rank the Casey ships? My unpopular opinion is that I rank calex @ the bottom outside of a poly context (fun fling but they’re too different and both have terrible work-life balance). Got a new appreciation for wovak tho.
Good lord.
Uh??? I don’t even know.
I LOVE Calex, but it’s not the early seasons, the Ghost calex teeny bit of content that we barely saw. It’s Casey struggling with her identity and her purpose in life post suspension, where she’s trying to figure out what the “something else” she’s supposed to do is if she can’t be a lawyer. Meanwhile Alex is back in NYC and struggling trying to find her way, struggling to figure out if she’s ready to go back to work, where, despite her perp being extradited, she still thinks every bump in the night is someone coming to kill her. They’re both broken, neither of them is the woman they were when they were at the DA’s office, and they find a way back to each other. THIS is the Calex that I love, the Calex that I feel truly is endgame. They help each other cope, they help each other through it all. Casey’s DV history, Alex ALREADY suffered from insomnia and anxiety BEFORE she was shot and shoved into living a fake life for years, they know trauma, they know how to cope both themselves and help the other through it. They know the triggers, they can read each other without having to actually say anything. It just fits…
Novelly: i find that this isn’t endgame, especially if we consider the s9 suspension. And honestly, I canon that Casey only returns to the DA’s office with the knowledge that Liz has retired, she’s too nervous otherwise (hence why liz is no longer around). They have a fiery relationship, a passionate relationship in the bedroom. But they’re not…totally compatible? Like…Liz is settled in life, while she enjoys to have a little plaything around, she’s never really sure how much she can expose Casey to in terms of the other aspects of her life. There’s a lot of differences between them/their lifestyles/their upbringings. Liz comes from the upper east side and you can’t tell me otherwise. Plus she is not one to hold Casey back, she knows there’s so much more out there that Casey is passionate about and wants to explore, and she’s going to let her go and do whatever it is she wants. Plus I just really, really hc Liz to not be monogamous. The closest thing she has to a monogamous relationship is her bff friendship with Lena.
Calvak: they have an interesting dynamic. I could potentially see them being endgame. Because Rita is very patient when it comes to the lovers that she truly wants to let in. She knows that not only is Casey a prosecutor, but someone who fights like HELL for her victims, and that’s obviously going to bring some strain onto their relationship when work mixes with play. Obvi they won’t be able to work on the same cases, but there’s still that *something* that is a thorn in their dynamic when they are in the same department, so to speak. However….Rita has this side to her that Casey never could have imagined, and she’s always there to comfort her, always there to hold Casey tight and remind her that she did everything she could, that she’s a wonderful prosecutor and an incredible woman. Rita feels impeccably lucky to have someone like Casey be her partner, because Casey really does wear her heart on her sleeve, and she always shows her love for the other woman, even when their fighting. Rita knows how lucky she is to be on the receiving end of Casey’s love, to be fully trusted by the younger woman after all she’s been through.
Wovak: this shit is so fucking soft. Jesus. Casey admires Melinda so fucking much. Like, they are both such BRILLIANT minds on their own, but putting them together?! Jesus. Casey doesn’t understand how Melinda is so fucking smart when it comes to medical stuff, and Melinda doesn’t get a lot of the legal shit Casey spews off a lot of the time, but they balance each other out so well. It’s a newer ship, so it’s harder to get into analysis right now for me. But Casey worships the ground Melinda walks on, and you cannot tell me otherwise. Which…Melinda is of course, very humble about and always reminds Casey of how wonderful, talented and amazing SHE is too, because Melinda feels that they are equals, and that she cares about Casey just as much as Casey cares about her.
So…that’s what I’ve got for ya…

A Gingerbread Home
pairing: Rita Calhoun x Casey Novak
summary: Casey is surprised when Rita wipes the floor with her during their gingerbread house decorating competition.
Casey held the gingerbread house kit under her arm as she waited in the elevator to Rita's apartment. It was stupid, but neither woman was backing away from this challenge. One minute they'd been watching a cooking show and the next arguing about who was a better decorator. Gingerbread houses were a tradition in the Novak household for Christmas. They had made at least three every single year since Casey could remember, her and her siblings gathered around the kitchen counter with their parents. Casey had decades of experience, which she doubted that Rita had after spending a few Christmases at the Calhoun house.
"What is that smell?" Casey asked as she walked in. Rita's apartment always smelled nice, save for a few attempts at dinner that Rita had made, but this was extravagant. It reminded Casey of the bakery that Rita had taken her to on their Hamptons weekend at the beginning of December.
"Gingerbread for our competition," Rita answered. Casey's eyebrows shot up in surprise. Rita was wearing an apron and had on oven mitts. "Oh honey, you're not winning with one of those kits."
"I thought we were using these," Casey squeaked. Rita tilted her head to the side as she shot the strawberry blonde an apologetic look. Casey began to understand then and there that she did not have this in the bag. "Where did you even learn how to make gingerbread?"
"Despite popular belief, I did have a childhood and did child things like baking Christmas cookies. Come on, let's get started. I'll even play that stupid song you like." Rita tugged Casey into the kitchen and Casey stumbled along behind her. Rita had already designated an area to Casey, who fumbled a little as she unpacked her store-bought kit.
"This doesn't feel fair," Casey mumbled. Rita rolled her eyes and threw a candy-coated chocolate at Casey, who for once didn't even try to catch it in her mouth.
"Chin up, you'll like the reward I choose," Rita promised. Casey's ears burned at the implication of what Rita was insinuating as she started to put her house together. The usual fun of the activity was a little lost on Casey, especially once Rita got into it. Rita was focused and silent, whereas Casey tried to keep herself relaxed.
"You know, it isn't supposed to be this quiet," Casey said. Rita finished up an icing trim around the perimeter of the house before standing up straight to look at what Casey had accomplished so far. "It's supposed to be loud with icing fights and gumdrops hurled across the room and little fist fights in the dining room so that we don't break the house."
"Casey, I love you, but I'm not letting you punch me. That doesn't even remotely sound fun," Rita said and Casey sighed. "Honey, you like doing this with your family, not me. That's okay, we have other things to do together. I am sorry that this isn't fun for you though."
"Will you at least come here and smash the shit out of this with me?" Casey asked. Rita nodded and walked over to where Casey was standing. She stepped in closely enough so that she could smell the body wash Casey was wearing over the gingerbread. "You go first, there's rarely anything left after I go."
"This is ridiculous," Rita chuckled. She knocked off one of the roofing panels, but that was it. Casey moved Rita aside, crouched down to get her angle right and then put her fist through the house with a shout. Gingerbread broke off and scattered across the counter. "You're not doing that to mine."
"Yours isn't really a house."
"You're right, it's a home," Rita finished for her. Casey pressed a kiss to Rita's cheek before grabbing a wall shard and taking a bite of it. "I'm not cleaning this up and you aren't eating that whole house by yourself."
"I know, and just you try to stop me!" Casey ran away laughing maniacally. Rita just sighed, moved her house to a safe place, and then went into the living to wait for Casey to get finished cleaning and bring the remains of her house over for them to enjoy.

Control
pairing: Rita Calhoun x Casey Novak
prompt: 6. “Mine.” & 14. “Don’t stop now, I do love a good show.”
warnings: smut
Casey genuinely couldn’t stop herself. Despite waking up in an empty bed, it was like Rita’s hands were still all over Casey’s body. Thoughts of the night before came flooding into Casey’s mind and she immediately got almost uncomfortably wet. Casey was lucky enough to get the morning off until a case came in for her to take, but she wasn’t sure whether Rita had the same luck. Casey found herself all alone in bed with nobody to take care of her except for herself.
Exposed and spread out for the world to see, lost in her own pleasure. That was how Rita found Casey lying in their bed. Rita stood in the doorway just watching Casey touch herself. There was something mesmerizing about the way that Casey’s fingers moved as the redhead touched herself. Rita could sit there all day and watch Casey’s long fingers plunge in and out of her entrance. Well, that was a lie. There was only so long that Rita could sit there and watch before a jealousy built up inside of her. Rita wanted to be the only person making Casey moan. Casey was hers and hers alone, that is what they had promised each other.
“Good morning,” Rita cooed. Casey dropped her hands and looked up at her partner, a hint of fear in her eyes. It wasn’t like Casey thought Rita would be mad at her for touching herself, but Casey knew that if Rita was in a feisty mood, she would take the opportunity to punish Casey. “Don’t stop now, I do love a good show.”
“You could give me a hand,” Casey suggested. Rita took a couple steps towards the bed and stared down at Casey’s body. She very easily could have stepped forward and laid down in between Casey’s legs, but she wanted to play a little. She wanted to make Casey beg for it, at least a little bit.
“I could, but you look like you’ve got a pretty good handle on the situation.” Rita crossed her arms over her chest. Casey pouted a little and sat up on her knees, to which Rita frowned at the change of her view. That frown didn’t last very long, quickly replaced by a surprised look when Casey pulled Rita’s hand in between her legs. “Fuck Casey, you’re soaked. I wasn’t even gone that long.”
“That’s just what you do to me. I’m yours Rita, say it,” Casey husked. Rita swallowed as Casey rocked her hips against Rita’s hand.
“You’re-,” Rita swallowed, “-mine.”
“Damn right I am.” Casey rocked her hips feverishly against Rita’s hand until her hips stuttered. Rita grabbed Casey by the back of the neck and held Casey steady so that she could take over.
“And I like taking good care of what’s mine.” Rita’s tone was just shy of dangerously flirtatious. If Casey wasn’t already naked and on the verge of cumming again, she was sure that there would be a practical puddle between her legs. Rita pushed her fingers inside of Casey and curled them, successfully pushing the taller lawyer over the edge. “Don’t I?”
“Absolutely,” Casey gasped out. Rita pulled her off of the bed and over to the bathroom. A warm bath was drawn and Rita stayed by the bathtub so that Casey had some company as she got cleaned up and ready to enjoy her day off.

Which female character do you think would pair best in a x ptsd reader? :D would you ever consider writing short comfort preference imagines?
I'm not gonna lie...all of our girls have enough of their *own* ptsd and trauma in their pasts. so like, they're all going to deal with it and react to it differently.
i've written a few situations that are similar, i think mainly they were calex or calvak. i think there's a kat x reader one shot? and an olivia x reader mini series with a similar situation.
