One hundred years ago, on February 16th, 1923, the inner chamber of the Tomb of Tutankhamun was opened to finally find the sarcophagus of the pharaoh. The thousands of items found inside the tomb were carefully photographed and this archeology discovery was one of the key cultural influences for the 1920s fashion. But today let's simply enjoy some of the photographs that Harry Burton took, now part of the Griffith Institute collection at Oxford University.
Which of these photos impact you the most? My personal favourite? The close up of the little garland on the mask.

THIS DAY IN GAY HISTORY

c.530 – Venantius Fortunatus (d.circa 600/609) was a Latin poet and hymnodist in the Merovingian Court, and a Bishop of the early Catholic Church. He was never canonised but was venerated as Saint Venantius Fortunatus during the Middle Ages.
Born in Treviso, near Ravenna in Italy, he spent his time as court poet to the Merovingians. After visiting the tomb of St. Martin of Tours at St. Hilary at Poitiers, he decided to enter a monastery.
He continued to write poetry, some of which have a permanent place in Catholic hymnody, for instance the Easter season hymns "Vexilla Regis" and the "Pange Lingua" (Sing, O my tongue, of the battle). Three or four years before he died he was made bishop of Poitiers. Although never canonized, he was venerated as a saint in the medieval church, and his feast day is still recognized on 14th December each year.
Like Paulinus of Nola, St Venantius's poetry also includes some decidedly secular verse of the romantic sort. That this celebrates male love is clear from its inclusion in the Penguin Book of Homosexual Verse.
"Written on an Island off the Breton Coast" You at God's altar stand, His minister And Paris lies about you and the Seine: Around this Breton isle the Ocean swells, Deep water and one love between us twain. Wild is the wind, but still thy name is spoken; Rough is the sea: it sweeps not o'er they face. Still runs my lover for shelter to its dwelling, Hither, O heart, to thine abiding place. Swift as the waves beneath an east wind breaking Dark as beneath a winter sky the sea, So to my heart crowd memories awaking, So dark, O love, my spirit without thee.
Fortunatus died in the early 600s. He was called a saint after his death, but was never formally canonized.

1791 – Today is the birthday of the Irish poet Charles Wolfe (d.1823). Born at Blackhall, County Kildare, Wolfe attended Trinity College, Dublin between 1809 and 1814 and was ordained as a Church of Ireland priest in 1817. He is remembered for his poem "The Burial of Sir John Moore after Corunna", written in 1816 and much collected in 19th and early 20th century anthologies.
Wolfe's sexuality is often disputed, many believe he was homosexual. He certainly had an extremely intense friendship with the Rev. Thomas Meredith for whom he wrote two gushing epithets. Wolfe died from tuberculosis caught from a cow at the age of 32. Yes. A cow. Even into the mid-20th century tuberculosis was commonly transferred via milk.

1901 – King Paul of Greece (d.1964) reigned as king of Greece from 1947 to 1964. He may have been bi-sexual.
Paul was born in Athens, the third son of King Constantine I of Greece and his wife, Princess Sophia of Prussia. He was trained as a naval officer. On 9 January 1938, Paul married Frederika of Hanover at Athens. They had three children.
Before his marriage he is alleged to have invited the homosexual literary muse, Denham Fouts, on a cruise of the Aegean Sea, perhaps because they were lovers. However, Fouts's friend John B. L. Goodwin said Fouts often made up stories about his life, and literary critic Katherine Bucknell thought many of the tales about him were myth.
During most of World War II, when Greece was under German occupation, he was with the Greek government-in-exile in London and Cairo. From Cairo, he broadcast messages to the Greek people.
Paul returned to Greece in 1946. He succeeded to the throne in 1947, on the death of his childless elder brother, King George II.

1951 – Today's the birthday of American actor and puppetteer Paul Zaloom. He's best known for his role as the character Beakman on the television show Beakman's World, based on the Universal Press Syndicate syndicated comic strip You Can With Beakman and Jax created by Jok Church.
Paul Zaloom was educated at The Choate School (now Choate Rosemary Hall) in Wallingford, Connecticut, and began his entertainment career at Goddard College with artists in residence the Bread and Puppet Theater, a troupe specializing in self-invented, home-made theater. One of their performance locations was Coney Island, where Zaloom is said to have given advice to the "unofficial Mayor of Coney Island", Dick Zigun, on how to bring in the crowds. In his solo work he utilizes found-object animation, in which he takes objects as varied as coffee pots and humidifiers and turns them into elements of political satire. His personal politics are liberal; he has referred to Elizabeth Dole and Margaret Thatcher as "right wing nut jobs." He has also been a fierce critic of U.S. foreign policy since the early 1980s, having helped to lead a disarmament march during the Cold War.
In 1992 Zaloom starred in the cable TV children's science program Beakman's World. The show moved to CBS in 1993 and aired for four seasons. Zaloom has also written, designed and performed eleven full length one-man shows, including Fruit of Zaloom, Sick But True, Mighty Nice, and The Mother of All Enemies, the latter a shadow-puppet show featuring traditional Middle-Eastern comic puppet character Karagoz. His latest effort tackles social issues such as privacy, the war on terrorism, and discrimination based on sexual orientation and ethnicity. Aside from shadow puppetry, Zaloom's idiosyncratic work utilizes techniques such as overhead projection, government document expose, cantastoria picture performance, toy theater, as well as hand, rod, found object, and dummy puppets.
Zaloom has described himself as "a Gay, Buddhist, agnostic, quaker, secular humanist knucklehead."

1955 – Hervé Guibert (d.1991) was a French writer and photographer. The author of numerous novels and autobiographical studies, he played a considerable role in changing French public attitudes to AIDS. He was a close friend and lover of Michel Foucault.
Guibert was born in Saint-Cloud, Hauts-de-Seine, to a middle-class family and spent his early years in Paris, moving to La Rochelle from 1970 to 1973. In his teens Hervé Guibert lied about his age to work at the magazine 20 ans eventually leading to a job with Le Monde. After working as a filmmaker and actor, he turned to photography and journalism. In 1978, he successfully applied for a job at France's prestigious evening paper Le Monde and published his second book, Les aventures singulières (published by Éditions de minuit). In 1984, Guibert shared a César Award for best screenplay with Patrice Chéreau for L'homme blessé. Guibert had met Chéreau in the 1970s during his theatrical years.
Guibert's writing style was inspired by the French writer Jean Genet. Three of his lovers occupied an important place in his life and work: Thierry Jouno, director of an institute for the blind whom he met in 1976, and which led to his novel Des aveugles; Michel Foucault, whom he met in 1977; and Vincent Marmousez, a teenager of fifteen who inspired his novel Fou de Vincent.
In January 1988 Guibert was diagnosed with AIDS. From then on, he worked at recording what was left of his life. In June the following year, he married Christine, the partner of the late Thierry Jouno, so that his royalty income would eventually pass to her and her two children. In 1990, Guibert publicly revealed his HIV status in his roman à clef "À l'ami qui ne m'a pas sauvé la vie" (published in English as To the Friend Who Did Not Save My Life). Guibert immediately found himself the focus of media attention, featured in newspapers and appearing on several television talk shows.
Two more books also detailing the progress of his illness followed: Le Protocole compassionnel (published in English as The Compassionate Protocol) and L'Homme au chapeau rouge (published in English as The Man In The Red Hat), which was released posthumously in January 1992, the same month French television screened La Pudeur ou l'impudeur, a home-made film by Guibert of his last year as he lost his battle against AIDS. Almost blind as a result of disease, he attempted to end his life just before his 36th birthday, and died two weeks later.

1968 – Yotam Ottolenghi is an Israeli-English chef, restaurateur, and food writer. He is the co-owner of six delis and restaurants in London, as well as the author of several bestselling cookbooks, including Ottolenghi (2008), Plenty (2010), Jerusalem (2012) and Ottolenghi Simple (2018).
Ottolenghi was conscripted into the Israeli Defense Forces in 1989, serving three years in IDF intelligence headquarters. He then studied at the Adi Lautman Interdisciplinary Program for Outstanding Students of Tel Aviv University, where in 1997, he completed a combined bachelor's and master's degree in comparative literature; his thesis being on the philosophy of the photographic image. While working on his thesis, Ottolenghi served as a night copy editor for Haaretz.
In 1997, Ottolenghi and his then-partner Noam Bar moved to Amsterdam, where he edited the Hebrew section of the Dutch-Jewish weekly NIW and considered getting his doctorate in comparative literature. Instead, he moved to London to study French cooking at Le Cordon Bleu.
Ottolenghi met his partner Karl Allen in 2000; they married in 2012 and live in Camden with their two sons, Max and Flynn. In 2013, Ottolenghi "came out as a gay father" in a Guardian essay that detailed the lengthy process of conceiving Max via gestational surrogacy, an option that he believes should be more widely available to those who cannot conceive naturally.
Ottolenghi served as a pastry chef at three London restaurants: the Michelin-starred Capital Restaurant, Kensington Place, and Launceston Place in Kensington New Town. In 1999, he became head pastry chef at the artisanal pastry shop Baker and Spice, where he met the Palestinian chef Sami Tamimi, who grew up in Jerusalem's Old City. Ottolenghi and Tamimi bonded over a shared language—Hebrew—and a joint "incomprehension of traditional English food".
His debut cookbook Ottolenghi was published in 2008 and has sold over 100,000 copies. Six volumes have followed: the all-vegetable cookbooks Plenty (2010) and Plenty More (2014); Jerusalem (2012); Nopi (2015); the dessert cookbook Sweet (2017); and Ottolenghi Simple (2018).
Ottolenghi's bestselling cookbooks have proven influential, with The New York Times noting that they are "widely knocked-off for their plain-spoken instructions, puffy covers, and photographs [that Ottolenghi] oversees himself, eschewing a food stylist". In 2014, the London Evening Standard remarked that Ottolenghi had "radically rewritten the way Londoners cook and eat", and Bon Appetit wrote that he had "made the world love vegetables".

Y/N is a deeply spiritual person in the sense that she believed with her whole heart that a woman must remain pure and untouched until she meets the man she can truly call, the love of her life - she was born in Cairo, Egypt to two loving parents who were Catholic and had instilled in her that the proper way to love someone is to refrain from any and all sinful acts, which is a lesson she carried throughout her entire life.
She had tried dating, and by dating - it was the standard, meeting a nice guy over a meal or a soft drink, chatting for a few hours yet it never really went anywhere, two serious relationships that ended only because the men expected her to relent and fully surrender herself to someone, whilst she fully believed that the person she is meant to be with is out there, and if she were to meet him, she wanted to be pure.
That's when Mohammed came into the picture.
Y/N was accepted into Liverpool Hope University on a scholarship to study English Literature as she hoped to become an author, a kids author to be exact - and within her time in Liverpool she was able to meet several people of the same faith, who ensured that she had fun but also steered clear of sinful acts, and one morning; a very calm and uneventful morning, she stopped at a café to grab a cappuccino and a sweet treat when on her way out, she collided with someone and thankfully, nothing was spilled.
" Oh my god, I am so sorry " Y/N apologized before her eyes widened upon realizing who she collided with.
It was none other than, Mohammed Salah, Liverpool's and Egypt's star.
Her parents adored him, given that they were massive football fans and her father frequently watched Liverpool games on the tv just to cheer him on.
" It's fine " Mohammed smiles politely, his brows raising for a moment before he decided to ask. " You're not from here, are you? "
Y/N shakes her head with a shy smile, " No, I'm a fellow Egyptian " she states with a giggle.
" Really " Mohammed smiled.
Y/N nods, " yes, I am and just for the record, I'm not an avid fan of football so you can rest, I won't act crazy or ask you for a photo, but thank god my parents aren't here cause they love you " she laughs.
Mohammed laughs, " Ah, well I'm glad to know that "
Y/N gestured to her car, " I should probably go now " as she was about to make her way to her car he stops her, " Yes "
" May I at least know your name? " Mohammed asks, " And maybe get your number, you know ... " he smiles, " just in case you need a tour guide around Liverpool "
Y/N smiles, " Ah! " she placed her cup and box on top of her car before she rummaged through her bag to grab a pen and a piece of paper and write down her contact information. " Here you go "
Mohammed smiled as he read over the name, " Y/N L/N, a beautiful name "
" Thank you " Y/N smiled, " Goodbye Mohammed "
That day was the setting stone for a beautiful and spiritual relationship built on respect, love and admiration; They had similar personalities and were very hardworking when it came to what they loved, their only difference being their religion, Mohammed being a practicing Muslim and Y/N being a religious Christian, however that difference as much as it was minuscule seeing they both hailed from the same nation, it did pose as problem when it came to the public eye.
Several hate messages and comments flooded her socials, people telling her to back off, calling her a bad seed for supposedly corrupting Mohammed and while those comments affected her in a sense, Mohammad assured her that he doesn't care as his intentions for her were pure, he loved her and respected her wholeheartedly, regardless of the religion she practiced.
After a lovely dinner in a cozy Italian restaurant, Mohammed and Y/N decided to take a walk around the park, and it was then that he decided to ask her, " Where do you see yourself in a year? "
Y/N took a minute to formulate a coherent response and smiled, " I would say, happily married with a child "
Mohammed smiled at the answer, " So do I " he falls silent for a moment before he decides to ask even further, " I want that too, however two children instead of one "
Y/N felt a flutter inside of her chest, " Girls or boys? "
Mohammed shrugs, " I don't mind, as long as God gives me healthy children, and their mother is also healthy " he smiles, " I don't mind what I am blessed with "
Y/N nods slowly, " So, in a year from now, you'd get married? "
" Yes " Mohammed nods, " I'm not getting any younger, I want to do things properly, I want to settle down seeing as I am thankful to God and my parents for getting me to where I am, I'm only short of one thing that God had advised us to do, get married "
Y/N smiles, " I like that, I am glad I found you because ... there are no more real men in this world, you're a gem Mohammed and I love you so much "
Mohammed smiled, " I love you too " he stopped midway through their walk which confused Y/N. " I want to ask you something "
Y/N stops with a confused expression, " Ok? "
" Marry me? "
There it was, the two words she'd wanted to hear her entire life; her mother had gotten married at a young age, and here she was, at twenty five - in front of who she can only describe as an angel on earth, " Mo " she whispers.
" Y/N I mean it, I want a future with you " Mohammed smiles, " While I would love it, if you converted to Islam, but I don't want to force you, I respect you Y/N, I respect the fact that you live your life the proper way which is a rare thing to find in this world and if there's a woman I know will be a proper mother to my children, it'll be you "
His words were enough to have her tears threatening to fall, " so? "
" Yes, I will marry you, we can get married tomorrow if we have to " Y/N giggles, " I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you "
" Good " Mohammad smiled, " I will do this tomorrow night, the proper way but for now, let's continue our walk "

Gisela #1
Gisela Hamilton aka the Flower Fairy. Any Formula One fan would remember having the little girl run around the paddock and gifting flower treats to whoever she thought needed some extra luck. The guys would wear their flower crown with pride and they was bickering between them who was her favourite. She wouldn't outright say it but she adored her Uncle Seb, and the Schumacher's.
As she grew up she loved racing but she never saw herself doing that, and she definitely felt the pressure. Out of her and her siblings, she grew to hate the cameras. Sebastian was the one who taught her the important of nature and to look after Earth. She was 6 when she helped him tidy up Silverstone after the weekend of a sold out GP. He introduced her to bees and taught her how important they were, especially to her flowers.
Her family were all supportive, when she turned 11 she was invited to the Chelsea Flower Show and she got to choose who was the winner. She loved looking around, seeing their passion, and learning about new plants and flowers. She went to University, and after three years she had got a job at a Botantical Garden. And brought her own shop, and become a florist.
G looked up when she heard the bell ring and saw Cairo and Azalea walking in. They all kissed each other with Lea handing her a white chocolate mocha, which was her favourite.
'How are you feeling about the big opening?' Cairo asks as he noses at what his younger sister was doing.
'I'm nervous, and excited' she says.
'You've worked hard, everyone is going to be excited' Lea says. 'You belong here'
'For a while I thought you would be the one outshining me on the F1 track, so I am glad you realised flowers are your biggest passion' Cairo jokes.
Growing up, everyone thought Gisela was going to be the one to follow in her fathers footsteps. She was pretty mean in a Go-Kart but that was the thing that made her grow out of love with it. She didn't want to be a nepo driver.
'Can you help, with the boxes out?' she explains, with the two nodding and making their way behind the desk.
The bell rings making the Hamilton trio stop bickering and reminiscing, they smile when they see Jacob walk in his leather jacket, wanting to look like a bad boy.
'You managed to find it' Lea jokes knowing he could get lost anywhere.
'Ha ha' he said dryly as he hugs G. 'Do I get a tour?' he asks, she nods and takes his hand and walks him around.
It was a big area, with loads of different plants and flowers. The walls were decorated with photos and memories of her childhood. Jacob smiling softly at the photo of her G gifting a bouquet to Max as he won his second championship. A photo of her stood in the middle of the field of sunflowers. There was a big double door to a garden of flowers which she grew ready to be picked and ready to buy.
'You have done a good job' he smiles.
She gently rubs her thumb over the petal of the flower. 'Thank you, I feel like I am free and don't feel any pressure to make anyone proud' she speaks honestly. 'I hope you feel that soon' she says as she picks up the flower and hands it over to him.
He gently smells it and looks at her. 'I have stopped trying to make him or anyone happy, I don't think I can whatever I do' he mutters.
She gently squeezes his shoulder.
.......
The event was in full speed, Gisela stood with a champagne glass in her hand, there was some journalist scattered around, and then there was her family and chosen family. Lewis was sat beside Sebastian and Michael as they caught up, Michael was now the Ferrari principal, he had just been announced. But they all learnt about it a week prior and they all went round for dinner. Azalea was sat on Jules’ lap as he bickered with Jacob. She didn’t understand what they’re issue with each other. Properly because they were too alike. Cairo was holding his phone and moving it around, with Adelaide sat on the screen. They were her family, who she always found comfort in. And didn’t feel any pressure to be this ‘perfect’ girl who everyone thought she was. These people raised her, she shared a bath with most of them. She would sneak in alot of their beds at midnight after a nightmare. Sebastian and Michael would pick her up when something happened and Jules and Jacob would go over to the guy who broke your heart to rough them up a bit.
'I am will the champ this season, last season I let you past but not this time' Lea said confidently and flicking Jules' nose.
'I don't know, I am backing Jacob, and I have already gave him a lucky charm' G says as she sits beside Jules. They all 'Ooo' in a teasing fashion with G winking at him.
'Traitor' Lewis jokes.
‘The Hamilton reign is over’ Jules says sticking his tongue at his on, off girlfriend.
‘I don’t know, those Hamilton’s are a force to reckon with especially now they are teammates’ Michael smiles.
No one noticed but G did how her sister stiffens and her smiles falls off her face. As she starts to play with Jules hair.
'Can we have one night not talking about F1' she suggests.
They all nod, Michael standing up and pulling her to her feet too. He gets the rooms attention. 'Looking around the room, it shows how loved you are. I think I echo what everyone is feeling. But I am beyond proud of the women you have grown up as. Heres to Gisela and The Flower Fairy, to loads of success' he says.
Everyone lifts their glasses up and say in unison 'To Gisela and The Flower Fairy!'
------
Gisela's car pulls up infront of the family home, both of her siblings cars were already parked up. Lewis always liked to meet up with the Hamilton trio (mainly Lea and Cairo) to remind them that they were siblings before hand. The season had started, so it had been two weeks since she had seen them properly. Only really seen them when they poked their heads into view when she spoke to dad. She takes the bouquet of flowers and jumps out, her mum and Angela were the first two to welcome her. She walks into the kitchen were the others were already. Lewis pecks her on the cheek and hands her a coffee which she was grateful for.
'Sorry I am late, but I bet none even realised' she mocks, which gains an eyeroll from Cairo.
'You are so bloody dramatic' with Azalea mocking 'Who are you again?' which makes her younger sister aim an apple at her head. Lucky for her, her F1 reactions are top tier.
They start to talk about the start of the F1 session, hearing that Jules is on another level.
'Should we cut the season short and just give it to him?' G jokes. 'Dad whose side was you on when Cairo took Lea out?' she asks.
'I didn't!' he cuts in. 'If you rewatch you see her turn into me' he argues his case as Azalea makes a hand puppet with her hand.
Lewis looks at his daughter with a 'thank you for that' look.
'I reckon they are working together now they are sleeping together' she giggles into her coffee.
'How are you and Jules?' Lewis asks. 'We are good' she says, she looks at Cairo. 'Cairo is dating Addy'
'Where is she now?' Lewis asks.
'Um' he looks at his phone. 'She is in Australia' long distance is harder than expected' he explains.
'She's a good kid' Lewis nods.
Gisela looks at her brother, she knew that they both had a thing for each other for a while, it wasn't until Cairo won his first World Championship when he drunkenly confessed his love for the Aussie beauty. Azalea and G both cheering from the other side of the room. The whole of the summer they lived in each others pockets, their second family all travelling around Europe. They got the front seat seeing them fall more in love with one another, she didn't think anyone could have a beautiful love story like her parents but she believed they were a close second.
Lea lets out a groan when G walks into her bathroom.
‘What was the emergency?’ she asks as she sits on the side.
Her older sister looks at her and points at her face. ‘I have a photoshoot and my brows are fucked and my skin is disgusting’ she frowns.
She was playing in the garden with the English Bulldog when she got a text and she instantly ran upstairs to her. She thought maybe it was something more of an emergency.
‘What’s the shoot for?’
‘Forbes or something, I have an interview too’ she sighs. ‘So they’ll just be like how does it feel like you are the shit Hamilton, how does it feel that you always get overshadowed, what do you bring to the table!’
‘You’re not the shit one’ she argues, which just gets a groan from her.
‘Ever since we were little and running around the paddock, everyone only looked at you and Cairo. Oh and here comes the other one’ she frowns. She bite her lip to try and stop her giggle because her voices and impressions are the best.
She gets down and wraps her arms around her middle. ‘That’s on them, not you’ She kisses her cheek and suggests that they have a pamper night to get her ready for the shoot.
‘Can I join?’ Cairo peeked his head through. ‘I have the same shoot tomorrow’
Lea groans and storms out, G gives him a shrug and chases after her.
‘What did I do?’ he calls after them.

Wow, who would have thought that I would fail at a self-imposed 30-day song-posting challenge? ME. I barely managed the first few posts, late September was so exhausting.
Anyway, I am seeing the Cure TONIGHT (ADGDGJKJHDGFRS) so all I’m gonna do is give you my ice cold takes on what songs should and should not be on setlists. In my dream universe, of course. IRL they can play whatever they damn well like. My opinions are completely uninformed by the current tour setlists because I have deliberately avoided looking at them.
1. Songs that are always / often on setlists and rightly so
Killing An Arab
Grinding Halt
Jumping Someone Else’s Train
A Forest
Play For Today
One Hundred Years
A Strange Day (do they play this often? no?)
Inbetween Days
A Night Like This
Push
Just Like Heaven
Plainsong
Pictures of You
Fascination Street
Disintegration
Burn
honestly if i ever tell you im tired of hearing any of these songs you can assume i have a gun to my head or someone is possessing me
2. Songs that are always / often on the setlist and honestly they don’t need to be
Shake Dog Shake (it’s awesome but i’d rather hear one of the other songs full of violence and loathing from ca. 1982-1984)
Lullaby
From the Edge (a bit torn, honestly. it’s cathartic but I’ve seen it enough.)
High (just play Doing The Unstuck it’s so much more interesting)
Never Enough (i get it, come on)
39 (come on, anything else.)
The Lovecats (as the meme says, hey Bob, there are other cute songs you know)
3. WANT WANT WANT / DREAM DREAM DREAM
Fire In Cairo
Three Imaginary Boys
In Your House
Primary (only if they play it fast enough)
Other Voices
Doubt
The Hanging Garden
The Figurehead
Cold
Charlotte Sometimes
The Exploding Boy
The Kiss
If Only Tonight We Could Sleep
Hey You!!!
One More Time
Closedown
A Letter To Elise
Out of This World
Underneath the Stars (literally they should play this always, not like 10 times in 2008 and never again)

Notable American Women: BLAVATSKY, Helena Petrovna Hahn (July 31, 1831 - May 8, 1891)
“... Educated by governesses who indulged her taste for supernatural folktales, and deeply impressed by the haunting liturgy of the Russian Orthodox service, Helena grew up a wild and imaginative girl. Her mother died when she was twelve, whereupon she was sent to live with her grandfather Fadeev, the governor of Saratov on the Volga. Later his household moved to Tiflis, where, on July 7, 1848, sixteen-year-old Helena Hahn was married to Gen. Nikifor Vasilievich Blavatsky, the forty-year-old vice-governor of a neighboring province.
Soon regretting her rashness, she ran away after three months to Constantinople, where (according to the memoirs of her cousin, the Russian statesman Count Sergei Y. Witte) she became an equestrienne in a circus. In 1850 she visited Egypt and explored Cairo with Albert L. Rawson, a young American student of Islam. Returning to Constantinople, she became the mistress of a minor Hungarian opera singer, Agardi Metrovich, whom she thereafter accompanied on European tours. During a stay in Paris she worked for a time with Daniel Dunglas Home, a celebrated spiritualist of the day.
…By 1870 they were living in Odessa, where Madame Blavatsky struggled to support them both by giving singing lessons and working in various shops and factories. In 1871 they embarked on the S.S. Eumonia for Cairo, where Metrovich hoped to revive his faltering career. On June 21, however, the vessel exploded at sea and Metrovich lost his life. Madame Blavatsky, one of seventeen survivors, continued on to Egypt.
Now taking up spiritualism in earnest, she tried to organize a Société Spirite, but her seances were characterized by various petty deceptions and soon collapsed. She drifted back to Odessa, then to Paris, and on July 7, 1873, arrived, via steerage, in New York City. Here she lived in a Home for Working Women, doing catchpenny spiritualism and various odd jobs. …The turning point in her life came that October when she read in the New York Daily Graphic of the seances being conducted by the Eddy brothers of Chittenden, Vt.
She hastened to Vermont, displayed her own psychic aptitude, and ingratiated herself with Col. Henry Steel Olcott, the lawyer and spiritualist who had written the Graphic articles. Olcott was deeply impressed by this exotic Russian, and the following March, when he received a mysterious message from “Tuitit Bey” of ”The Brotherhood of Luxor” instructing him to become her neophyte, he readily yielded.
…Here on Sept. 7, 1875, was born the Theosophical Society, named by an English member, Charles Sotheran, who had discovered the word, meaning “divine wisdom,” in the dictionary. Olcott was chosen chairman, and later president; William Quan Judge, a young Irish clerk in Olcott’s law office, was made secretary-treasurer (later, as head of the American section, he led a schism from the parent group); and Madame Blavatsky, who preferred to remain in the background since she was not a good speaker, became corresponding secretary.
The organization’s declared object was “to collect and diffuse a knowledge of the laws which govern the universe.” By 1880 three basic goals had emerged: to promote the “Universal Brotherhood of Humanity”; to investigate the “unexplained laws of Nature and the psychical powers latent in man”; and to study comparative religion, philosophy, and science.
…When the Theosophical Society failed to thrive in America, Madame Blavatsky, (or “H.P.B.,” as she now called herself) and Olcott decided to move to India, a land known for its occult lore and one where Olcott had recently established a promising contact with the Arya Samaj, a strong new organization advocating a return to the ancient principles of Hinduism. Before setting out for India, Helena Blavatsky took out American naturalization papers, correctly anticipating that she might be regarded by the British authorities as a Russian spy.
…In 1882, with the aid of wealthy Indians, Madame Blavatsky and her followers purchased the grounds for a beautiful international headquarters at Adyar, on the outskirts of Madras. Here, with the help of her young Hindu “chelas,” or assistants, she amazed visitors with various psychic marvels, including “precipitated” or materialized written communications from the Mahatmas, most notably one Koot Hoomi. Her reputation grew despite occasional embarrassing setbacks, as in 1883 when a “Koot Hoomi” letter was proved to have been plagiarized from a recent address by an American Theosophist.
At this apogee of her career, Helena Blavatsky was a person of curious contradictions. Far from spiritual in appearance, she was extremely obese, with protruding eyes and short crinkly hair. She loved to play solitaire, smoked incessantly, and frequently gave way to towering rages and profane outbursts drawn from the forty languages she was said to have at her command. While taking great relish in attracting new converts, she always retained a wry self-awareness that was one of her more appealing traits.”

Alice would see people around him, eager for to send him messages but he always brushed them off. Two years in, Robin became distant and missed/cancelled many dates. Alice walked in on him and Rosanna sleeping together. The two jumped to defend themselves, but Alice cut them off completely. To top it all off, her brother had written a book where the main character’s sister was ‘nutcase’ that could see ghosts. Alice isolated herself, cut everyone off and locked herself in her room for a good few months. Alice did get better though, she moved away from London and started a new life. Vincent was placed on a sort of pedestal from his father, simply because he was a boy. His father wanted Vincent to be like him, and would often fight with his father about that. The fights were physical most of the time. Vincent always protected Laura, and she would do the same.

At age seventeen, Sonny’s father died. He drowned in a bath tub while extremely drunk. Sonny took that part of the business when he turned twenty, and he got it back into the Di Vittorio family’s good graces. Montgomery  agreed and Michael was born on the 12th of May. Montgomery never acknowledged Michael, he was never around. It was funny how Montgomery tried to keep his family stable, considering all the affairs he would have later on. When Michael was around ten months old, Grace showed up at Camille Vega’s door and left Michael with her. Michael is forever grateful that Camille took him in and loved him, despite of what her husband had done. Michael also got an older sister, Josephine, who he adored. FC: Çağatay Ulusoy,
Information:  Warning - Mentions of death, blood, illegal activity
Kerem Yildiz was born on January 12th, in Turkey. Their primary residence was in Bursa, but his family had a small farm in the country side. They weren’t rich by any means, but both his parents worked to make the money they wanted. His mother was a nurse, and his father was a lawyer. What Kerem didn’t know was that his father was the lawyer of a large criminal enterprise. He figured that out when he was thirteen, when he eavesdropped on a conversation his father was having in his study. When Kerem was fifteen, his parents were executed by said criminal organization for suspected collaboration with the police. Kerem watched it all unfold before him, and before they could put a bag over his head, Kerem fought them off and escaped. Kerem ran and ran, until he stopped to rest in a nearby town. There, he met a boy named Serkan, who was the same age as him. Kerem wanted nothing to do with him at first, but the two became inseparable over time. Thick as thieves. Kerem performed his first kill when he was twenty, on a local gang leader that was causing trouble. When he found out that he could be paid for that, he worked hard on his skills and became one of the most ruthless assassins around.

The angel of death to be more precise. However, Abraham wasn’t ready to die, so he struck a bargain with the heavens. That bargain would expose him to horrors that were unimaginable. Abraham became an exorcist, approved by the Vatican and now spends his new immortality hunting and expelling demons from the world.

FC: Matthew McConaughey
Information: Warning - Mentions of serial killers, murder, religious abuse
Benjamin “Booker” Davis was born in Memphis, Tennessee to a man named David and his wife, Angela. David was a very devout Catholic, and a very paranoid man. David would often beat Booker with a bible and threaten the boy with eternal damnation. They went to church almost every Sunday, unless one was sick and couldn’t go. His mother ran off with some accountant, leaving Booker alone with his father. At the age of fifteen, Booker ran away from home and went to Texas. He went to his uncle’s place, where he laid low for a while. Later, he would find out that his father never reported him missing. David’s reasoning for it was that his son was consumed by sin, and God finally removed him from David’s holy household. Booker hasn’t spoken to his father in two decades. Booker joined the force in his mid twenties, in Austin, Texas. His biggest case was the case of the Boogieman, a serial killer with a violent M.O. It was in this case that he met Mira Reed, the sole survivor of the viscous serial killer. The two bonded after that, and remained in contact still.

REASONING: When Nilay had been found on the orphanage steps, there had been no information on her name or her birthday. The people at the orphanage named her Nilay Fahri, a name that’s rather fitting for her love of Egypt and her career. As for Ye’or, Richard and Jasmine helped chose her Hebrew name after she converted not too long after being adopted and feeling at home with the Baileys. Knowing that the name was associated with the Nile River and Egypt, they thought it was fitting considering her name being associated with the Nile River.

📜When Nilay was 19, she got a tattoo of her Hebrew name: Ye'or, יאור. It means “It Will Shine/The Light of the River/The Nile” and is located on the back of her neck. 📜She has a small Ancient Egyptian-inspired Lotus outline tattoo on her lower back. The Lotus flower is regarded in many different cultures, especially in eastern religions, as a symbol of purity, enlightenment, self-regeneration and rebirth. Its characteristics are a perfect analogy for the human condition: even when its roots are in the dirtiest waters, the Lotus produces the most beautiful flower. She got this when she was 20 in Egypt.  📜While in Turkey a few weeks after leaving Egypt during summer break, she got both an Evil Eye and Hand of Hamsa tattoo on her right inner arm above her elbow. The Evil Eye is meant for protection, as well as the Hand of Hamsa. Nilay had gotten this as a way to connect with and honour her Turkish roots while also tying in her Jewish upbringing and culture, along with her Egyptian culture. 📜On her right side, she has the cartouche of Pharaoh Hatshepsut tattooed on her. In honour of her favourite historical figure. 📜On her right thigh, she has a tattoo of an Egyptian Cypress tree with pearls on the branches. Underneath it is Shajar al-Durr’s name in Arabic. Shajar al-Durr became the sultana of Egypt on May 2nd, 1250 and ended the Ayyubid reign and started the Mamluk reign. Her name means “tree of pearls” in Arabic. 📜On her left thigh, she has an outline of the Atik Valide Mosque tattooed there. The complex was one of the many accomplishments of Nurbanu Sultan, the Haseki Sultan of Sultan Selim the Second, her legal husband, and Valide Sultan of Sultan Murad the Third, her son.  📜Nurbanu is another one of Nilay’s favourite historical figures, alongside Hatshepsut, Shlomtzion/Salome Alexandra, and Shajar al-Durr, so it made sense to her to have a tattoo in honour of Nurbanu. 📜She’d gotten those three tattoos when she was 21. 📜Before she left for Egypt, she got a small blank Polaroid picture tattooed on her left side. A few months after Hattie was born, she got a tattoo of an Egyptian lotus in the blank picture with Hattie’s birthday in Roman numerals written underneath. 📜Right next to her tattoo dedicated to Hattie, she has a dove tattoo featuring a mama dove and two baby doves sitting on an olive branch, dedicated to her girls. 📜Along with those two tattoos dedicated to her daughters, she had gotten another set dedicated to them: both of their initials (HAB and RNF) tatted on her right wrist. 📜She got both of those tattoos when she was 33, a couple of weeks before her 34th birthday in 2023. 📜After the premiere of her first docuseries that she hosted, she got her eleventh tattoo in honour of the next step in her career: the Egyptian goddess, Aset/Isis, located on her chest beneath her breast, like Rihanna’s. 📜She’s recently received a small rainbow next to her Polaroid with the lotus and the mama & baby doves duo, in honour of Rhiannon.
PIERCINGS: Standard lobe piercings (both), upper lobe piercings (both), auricle piercings (both), helix piercing (left), stomach piercing, and nipple piercings. Debating on getting a Medusa piercing.
MARKS/SCARS:
📜Has a couple of minor scars from playing around a lot as a child. 📜Has some minor burn scars on the palms of her hands, knees, and shins from when a group of her bullies stuffed her in a metal dog kennel during a hot day in Cairo, causing the kennel to become overheated and the metal to leave some thin one-inch burn scars. 📜Her most prominent scars are on her stomach. She has a scar that’s become light now on her lower abdomen from her Cesarean-section to deliver Hattie, though it was reopened for her C-section op with Rhia. 📜She also has around five, scattered one inch scars in various places on her stomach, due to her attack back in July 2021 and being stabbed multiple times.
NOTABLE FEATURES: Her big brown eyes, her short height, her smile, her nose.
USUAL EXPRESSION: Either a soft smile on her face or furrowed brows while deep in thought.
CLOTHING STYLE: Varies on her mood, activities, and the season. Typically bohemian/global-inspired and items from global brands, adventurer, vintage, artsy, casual, comfy athletic, dark and light academic, but can also glam it up for the occasion.
JEWELRY: Is a major necklace and ring girl. Prefers gold jewelry. Loves to layer her necklaces and can typically be seen wearing her locket, her Rhiannon pendant, a gold and sapphire Magen David, and a gold Chai (“life),חי.

SOCIABILITY: Pretty sociable, but needs moments away from too many people.
EMOTIONAL STABILITY: Typically level headed, though feels passionately and can be prone to anxiety.
OBSESSION(S): Learning and gaining more knowledge and wisdom.
COMPULSION(S): Learning everything and anything. Getting so lost into her work to the point of forgetting to take care of herself yet always remembering to take care of others. Suffers from the delusional “How hard can it be?” syndrome when it comes to DIY-ing and renovating her home, and being bad at asking Eli for help or accepting his help. Buying way too many plants and things for the house. Always wanting to adopt every single animal she sees, including the wild animals. Would adopt a rabbit if Eli wasn’t against it.
PHOBIA(S): Arachnophobia and acrophobia. Has a fear of dog kennels. Fear of not being enough and being others', especially the people she loves, second choice. Is afraid of losing her memories completely one day.

HABITS AND QUIRKS: Keeping her thoughts to herself, sometimes struggles to stand up to herself but has gotten better about that, and avoiding those she believes dislikes her. Tends to play with one of her necklaces when deep in thought or is anxious. When passionate, she can become quite a rambler, going on a tangent without remembering to take a breath until she done. During her rambles, rants, and tangents, she also tends to speak with her hands (or, well, speaks with her hands in general; she's Turkish, Egyptian, and Jewish, what do you want from her?). Is very shy and polite when you first meet her, but once you get to know her? Loud, absolutely loud and energetic. She is not yelling, she is simply talking. (Again, she's Mediterranean; old habits die hard.)
NERVOUS TICKS: Playing with her Magen David.
DRIVES/MOTIVATIONS: Her family being happy and getting to accomplish all of her career goals.
FEARS: Losing her family, not being enough, being in a coma again and losing large tracks of time, losing all of her memories entirely, heights, spiders, dog kennels, and her attacker coming back.

GREATEST FEAR: To lose her family, to go into another coma and lose a large track of time, to not be enough.
MOST AT EASE WHEN: In organized chaos and doing something.
LEAST AT EASE WHEN: Standing still and doing nothing.
WORST POSSIBLE THING THAT COULD HAPPEN: Losing her family completely.
BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT: Her children.
BIGGEST REGRET: Not telling Elijah about her feelings sooner and ending up leading on someone she cared up, and ending up hurting them in the end.
MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT: Having her first time involving her first kiss and sex being a drunken one night stand with a man she never met, doesn't remember what he looks like, yet also doesn't regret it because it led to her having Hattie. So, a massive win, in the end.
BIGGEST SECRET: She doesn't fully feel alive. After her multiple brushes with death, Nilay has often had moments where she couldn't know for certain if she was alive or not. She doesn't talk about it with anyone because she doesn't want to scare her loved ones that she oftentimes feel more like a ghost than a living being.
TOP PRIORITIES: Her family and loved ones, her Judaism, her careers.

CHARLOTTE CARDIN RELEASES NEW SINGLE “LONELY WITH OUR LOVE” AND ANNOUNCES A WEEK IN NASHVILLE EP DROPPING ON MAY 17
Tumblr media
Award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter Charlotte Cardin announces her newest EP, A Week in Nashville, to be released this Friday, May 17th  via Cult Nation. Her new song “Lonely with Our Love” is out now.
A piano-focused track, “Lonely with Our Love” is a somber ballad about a crumbling relationship. Cardin’s powerful vocals are at the forefront of the track as she asks her partner, “Are we even happy anymore?” The single’s reflective nature captures the tone for the rest of the EP, showing her stepping into the personal lyricism that has captivated millions of fans worldwide.
“Loneliness is such a universal feeling, but there's a distinct kind that comes with being with someone. And that's the heart of "Lonely with Our Love,’” shares Charlotte.  “I wrote this song with the extremely talented Gabe Simon, and it was one of those rare, magical sessions where the song just unfolded on its own. Blackwashing is also cultural appropriation
Anecdote
A couple of months ago, I welcomed my professor from Duke University who came with some freshmen. It was super fun taking a group of youthful students around the streets of Cairo, showing them around in a Summer evening until this young Black lady said, “I was so glad I saw the Egyptian mummies. They look exactly like me!” And that’s when I decided to cut the whole tour short, recommend a nice restaurant, and leave. Had I commented on that statement, it would’ve ended in a debate that I wasn’t ready to start with a tourist who’s staying for a couple of days, and it’s in my genes and tradition to show hospitality to strangers, especially when they aren’t aware of the offensiveness of their words. Not only did she offend my heritage, country, history, and ancestors — in her very brief statement she called me a colonizer, and she’s not a random, uneducated American: she’s a Duke student, and she blindly believes in Afrocentrism.

Afrocentrism is a form of cultural colonization and aggression against Egyptian heritage. The whole belief is fallacious and may sound like a poor, fictional recounting of an alternative history, but it is proving itself a real hazard, as is not only practiced by a group of random conspiracy theorists, rather by institutions that keep spreading the ideology and beliefs of Afrocentrism like cancer, in what is referred to as ‘Blackwashing’, through grand media productions, celebrity talks, and lately — quite explicitly — through so-called “documentaries” like Netflix’s Cleopatra funded by Jada Smith. Afrocentrism is an attempt to manipulate history to glorify the tribal history of Black people to claim ownership of the grandiose history of the greatest civilization in human history, the ancient Egyptian kingdom with its thirty dynasties, religions, scientific advancements, and world wonders that are not yet comprehensible to modern people that they started giving extra-terrestrial creatures credit for — with complete disregard to the actual truths based on existing artifacts, mummified bodies from a couple of millenia, linguistic traces, and many more cultural aspects inherited by over a hundred-million people, AKA modern Egyptians. These unjust practices even include building statues and forging images of Ancient Egyptian monuments into having Sub-Saharan features and displaying them at the Metropolitan Museum in NYC as well as the British Museum (besides all the stolen artifacts), feeding the AI with such alterations that keep producing more and more art with false features of Egyptians portrayed as Sub-Saharans, and manipulating the minds of unaware Internet-users into believing that his is the truth.
Race is a modern American obsession inherited from the white colonizers’ superiority complex, which led every different race to feel the need to prove their worth in the modern melting pot of the US — which is something that Egyptians have never had. “Afrocentrism began with powerful claims concerning the rise of Ethiopia, the emancipation of the Israelites, the race of Ancient Egyptians, Jesusand the inventors of science and mathematics” (Balakrishnan), yet this only shows how they chose the wrong enemy to bash against. Egypt is the oldest melting pot of cultures with the longest recorded history of the rise and fall of kingdoms in its land. The Sphinx has witnessed the glory of the Greeks when they ruled Egypt, built their temples, and altered the written language; the arrival of the Romans with their brutalism and tyranny; the exodus of Moses and his followers; Virgin Mary with baby Jesus taking shelter in Sinai, Cairo, and the south of Egypt; the Arab conquests with their language and beliefs; the Napoleonic wars; the Crusaders; the British colonization; the Muslim Shia establishment transforming into the greatest center for studying Sunni Islam; the Ottoman Empire; the World Wars that sent European refugees to the lands of Egypt; the wars on the border with the Zionist, terrorist state of Israel; the terrorist organization of ISIS (who had the audacity to take the name of the greatest goddess in the Ancient Egyptian pantheon as an acronym for their evil group); welcoming Palestinian, Syrian, and Sudanese refugees. The Egyptian history is rife with a variety of races and cultures and religions whose people settled and mingled with Egyptians, thus race is not something that Egyptians have really had to care about throughout their history. Therefore, Egyptians are mainly North African caucasians with a long history of mixing with foreign genes from all over the world, unlike the closed, tribal societies that the Sub-Saharan Africans have lived in for thousands of years, preserving their genes, and only realizing that there are “white” people when such people came to enslave them.

The history of Sub-Saharan Africa is full of amazing culture that should’ve been the focus of the Afrocentric movement: to revive such a history and tell the tales of their heroes and folklore tales. The focus of the Afrocentric ideology on claiming Ancient Egypt as their home makes their own rich heritage sink more into the shadows of history and get buried in the golden soil of their lands. “Afrocentrism encourages black Americans to discard their recent history, with its inescapable white presence, and to embrace instead an empowering vision of their African (specifically Egyptian) ancestors as the source of western civilization” (Walker). Rather than the victim mentality and fictional-historicism that Afrocentrism adopts, it should celebrate the racial diversity and resilience of Africans in the face of time and colonizing conquests, and take pride in all shades of Africans, instead of trying to claim the history of Egyptians as their own and initiate an uncalled-for hostility between the north and the rest of the continent.
This topic is researchable due to the myriad of studies on Afrocentrism, as well as media and cultural productions, Internet movements, and historical forgery. The Afrocentric productions and beliefs can be easily compared to actual Egyptian and Sub-Saharan history, which proves the false basis of this hypothesis. I find this research topic of great importance because it is all built on a false, delusional, and politicized historical claims, falsifying both — the Egyptian and Sub-Saharan identities, rewriting history to frame modern Egyptians as white colonizers (even though they have been, ironically, colonized since the rise of the Greek Empire till the 1950s). Even though the whole argument is hollow, somehow the media is supporting it and making an effort to make it replace the true history. Potential research design and method(s) of investigation include: historical, evaluation, ethnological, and cultural analysis. The most applicable research method, in my opinion, is critical realism.
