who: kassandra @andante--andante where: spring carnival
Avoidance was Malachi’s go-to coping mechanism. If he could avoid a situation forever, he would. Unfortunately, as much as he wanted to, this particular situation couldn’t be avoided any longer. Kassandra deserved an explanation, even if Malachi wasn’t sure he had one to give. They'd gotten drunk and had hooked up. They were both consenting adults. It should've been easy -- a one time oopsie kind of thing that didn't need much of an explanation -- but Mal couldn't help but think that he'd hooked up with someone that he'd tried to set up with his best friend. Granted, it hadn't been a conscious decision on his part. He hadn't set Kass and Vince up only to then attempt to sabotage any chance of a budding romance between them. Still, he felt guilty, but Mal could feel guilty about just about anything.
So, in the spirit of tackling the situation head on, Malachi had invited Kassandra to the Spring Carnival with him. This way, they could both talk and avoid without any awkward moments. "Thanks for meeting me," he greeted, one hand coming up in an awkward sort of wave. "I figured it was time we talked and it doesn't hurt to have carnival food while doing that."

who: kassandra @andante--andante where: meteor show night, the green
It had been years since Malachi had star gazed. Growing up, his mother had pointed to the moon and reminded him that his father was out there somewhere, looking at the same moon. The thought had brought him comfort. Even when he'd served overseas, the thought had lived in the back of his mind. In a world where his mother no longer existed, Malachi knew that he could look up and share this moon with his father, whoever and where ever he happened to be. Since returning stateside, he hadn't spent much time stargazing. So, when he'd heard about the meteor shower, Malachi had decided that he'd do everything in his power to ensure that he didn't miss it.
"You have any stargazing experience," he asked, glancing over his shoulder at his companion. Malachi shook out the blanket he'd packed a few times before finally laying it down on the grass. "Am I about to find out that you somehow know how to navigate using the stars and can name and identify all the constellations and plan to test me on them all afterwards? Because I one hundred percent didn't come prepared to fail a test tonight."
