What should not be
“What is this..” She whispered, fear in her voice, as she stared down at the freshly-laid eggs, as they quivered with life. “They appear to be.. a clutch.” Sebastian would murmur, sarcasm dotting his silken voice. He stayed a decent bit away from her, the familiar rage of the Skydancer female easy to sense, even from his far.
“I know that, you fool! But how?? WHY??” “I don’t understand your confusion. We mated, no?” “We did, yes, but.. the Shade- that damned Spiral. He took it from me. He took this from me. I was barren, Sebastian. This isn’t.. possible.”
“He took everything from me..” She whispered, pacing before the eggs, eyes never leaving them. “I bore hundreds of Shade-touched eggs, the act of being his broodmother for his army ruined any eggs I had left. They always rotted, after that. They always..” She trailed off, staring.  Sebastian stood, then, feathers ruffling a bit as he re-adjusted his folded wings. He came over, and curled softly around her, pulling her down to rest. “That was the past, Klavdiya. You must move on. This clutch signifies that; you are not who you were then, phsyically or in spirit. Maybe that breed-change scroll fixed it when it changed you, who knows. I am not one to dabble in magicks out of my comprehension, but.. I do know when fretting will get someone nowhere.” He quirked a ruby red eye at her, smirking. “Come now, relax. If they are Shadetouched, no matter how much, we will find them good homes.” “How do you know if people will even want them?” “I don’t.” He said simply. “But, at the very least, even the gods don’t turn away Shadetouched; help is help.”
She looked down at the eggs, a sense of dread enveloping her, even as she relaxed back against his oddly reflective feathers.  “I hope you’re right..”
