Hey, guys! We’re continuing prep for sectionals this week...specifically working hard in the paint on “Kids in America”, so niners and sophomores...get ready to really break out your dancing shoes and...ditch that extra soda at lunch, because I’m not nearly in the mood to deal with all the ridiculousness and screaming. That aside, this week is going to be an interesting week...and it’s one of my favorite assignments, because it gives you the opportunity to talk to and work with someone you maybe haven’t met before...or maybe try something different with a friend! The possibilities are endless!

So...pretty obvious what my shirt would say...likes boys, right? Right. I do have that shirt. It’s in my locker...Mrs. Torres let me make two...and...I kind of took a spin on this theme...and...I hope that’s okay with you guys if it is with her. So, I’m Declan Guthrie. I was born liking boys...but...I just realized I really like one boy in particular...and I’d really love it if he’d maybe take a chance on going to prom with me? 

He takes off his jacket and has a “LIKES BOYS” shirt on, but “BOYS” is crossed out in marker and “LUCAS” is written underneath it so it reads “LIKES LUCAS”.

It was a confusing thing; Layla loved attention more than anything, in fact she even considered writing attention whore on the white t she had sprawling from her  back pocket but to be quite honest despite that was something she’d been called quite frequently that wasn’t really something she cared about. What she did though was the fact that even though she loved all eyes on her glee assignments like this, that often required some longish interlude freaked her out a bit. It wasn’t a form of social anxiety but rather a constant overshadowing of how wrong her talking had gone in the past. Layla pulled out the shirt from the back pocket of her ripped black skinnies  and held it up by the shoulders so the words were easily seen ‘No Filter’. She glanced at Tana really quickly, giving the girl a short smile, to muster up some confidence. Layla definitely felt like she owed the other something today. She’d always been in a bit of a silent awe that Montana could own up to her autism so well, something she not only didn’t do but lied about as well. She’d never had as many issues as her friend, her autism only focused on linguistics but she certainly could relate to the song the the other had sang before her. She tried all the time to be something other than herself and it was quite exhausting. “I know some of you think I’m annoying, and rude, and a lot of other stuff... and I don’t know if you know but I know that too, not always when I’m saying stuff like how I actually really hate that sweater that Marley is like always wearing, you know? Not that I always know it’s rude to say or annoying at the time but like... I can hear what people say,” and she went to therapy for it after all, “I’m just really bad at conversations and talking in general and I always speak before I think so I end up saying things I wouldn’t really want to have said, you know? And sometimes I just talk for a ridiculous amount of time or I cut people off and anyways I know that don’t make me look good or make my friends or family feel good most of the time and I just don’t mean to do it to be mean. I actually try a lot, you know? But it’s super exhausting to think about everything you’re going to say and sometimes it’s just really hard to even get what people are saying- honestly. Anyways it just gets really tiring sometimes... and everyone always thinks because you said it you must mean it.... as if other people don’t just have all those thoughts but are better at dealing with them you know? But anyways, I’m gonna sing Soap by Lilo Rivera now.” she finished her long rant before sticking the shirt into her back pocket and cuing the pianist.
