I may get some hate for this but when it comes to STEAM education the process is actually literally more important than the product and if you think it’s the other way around you’re teaching science wrong :)

#said in reaction to the fact that my old STEAM program is suddenly getting way more publicity/money now that someone else is running it #and that someone is running it way more focused on specific end results and honing on specific stem-related careers #where as i focused on the fact that science is everywhere and how we actually use the scientific method all the time #i never told them what our end result was except a general guideline like 'make a structure that can hold up three of these little rocks' #and then gave them a shit ton of materials from popsicle sticks to decks of cards #and they just went wild trying to figure out what materials would make a structure to fit the criteria #and in my four years of teaching that workshop not one. single. time. did i ever get anyone who made the exact same thing. never #and sometimes one or two couldn't figure it out #but they never gave up! or got so frsutrated that they quit! or cried when they couldn't figure it out! #because they care more about what they were doing and how and figuring it out all by themselves #what it looked like in the end wasn't important #the process of experimentation and discovery and trial and error was the most important and they THRIVED and had SO MUCH FUN #and came out with so many critical thinking skills #and were so excited about the idea that they are a scientist every day all the time even if they're not wearing goggles and a lab coat #whereas now all of a sudden the program is just 'let's build these robots out of a box kit :)' #or 'let's talk to like three people about these very specific science careers' #which you know. those are fun and cool and important. #but then they jst walk away with one or two ideas of what science looks like #or worse thinking that science has to look a specific way #it really doesn't #i can say all this because i literally wrote a graducate level research paper about it okay #and lived this experience for four years #yes i was a science educator for four years and i fucking saw results i was GOOD okay? #my program was good #the girls loved it #but the parents and anyone who'd give us money were annoyed there wasn't some physical outcome #like a robot or worksheet or whatever #PROCESS. IS. MORE. IMPORTANT. THAN. PRODUCT. #in all education but science in particular #sorry i don't usually post stuff like this but ugh. i get so passionate about this i can't help it

so most of her family bg is still up in the air for me but

her parents were always v big on education, wanting the best for their kids and to be cared for in their old age, so seulie and her brother were diligent in their studies as kids

however, she slipped away little by little and became a more lax student, hiding under the guise of working endlessly in her room when she was really just reading the new tw****** book ( yeah, i rly just censored that series lmao )

her grades were still good, she just didn’t get as into it and overwhelmed by it as before

without a doubt lost her shit when she learned that she had powers

i mean she prob learned she had them when she was fourteen and saw a huge fist fight between some kids at school.. before going home and accidentally punching her little brother in the face

is good at sports and dance mostly bc of her power.. but she’s also a walking safety hazard bc she’s clumsy af, so she steers clear of most sports for everyone’s sake

like cute guy or girl in the stands ? she’s taking the field hockey forward down with her when she trips on air and prob fucks them up bc they cushioned her fall

anyways her parents weren’t too peeved by this surprisingly ( at least her dad wasn’t lol ) as long as she didn’t nearly break her brother’s nose again jgfksd

ngl it was smooth sailing for the most part, unless you caught her off-guard with your presence or something, then she was a state with her movements 

prob took up a job at some local fast food place like every other teen to save for uni

so fast forward and she graduated !!! she thought she’d do medical science and had no real worries about changing her mind

got into imperium and was set on medicine.. until she finally began attending uni, about a month in and she was fucking clueless

on top of that, she had to adjust to so much concentration on her power that it was all a little surprising and foreign to her

so to sum it up, her first year saw her suffering with academics, and other aspects of her life at imperium, however for the most part, everything was p good and she was content

so after a while, seulie switched into fashion marketing and she loves it

her parents were p disappointed for a while bc of the switch in major and there was an evident strain on their relationship ( between her and her mom, at least ) but by now they’ve come around and she’s so thankful for that tbh ??

anyway she’s kinda a mess, not rly sure of what else to say lol
