Okay so I started the Warp Effect a few days ago, I saw it going around on this platform when it was airing but I didn’t start because there was a lot of BL airing that I was watching at that time and to be honest straight-leaning drama (even if I knew there was GL and BL rep) is no longer my thing. However I decided to give a try because I have seen glowing reviews and now I come to you because obviously as I am late with the watching, there are not much people talking about it and there is an aspect of this show that deeply bothered me and I wanted to talk with someone. I found the Alex/jean storyline really upsetting. I thought that Jean and the situation as a whole was extremely, extremely unfair. It might be the biggest form of gaslighting that I probably have ever seen in media.

First of all, I don’t consider that Jean was R-word by Alex that night and that’s a big issue because it shouldn’t be up to debate but clear for the viewers and I have seen multiple viewers debating about it. It’s not that Alex didn’t listen to her when she told him to get off, it’s that he either couldn’t hear what she was saying or understand because immediately after he fell into unconsciousness because he was too drunk and that should have been the focus of this storyline ; I mean it kind of was touched upon but it should have been the theme of their storyline, how drunken sex is not safe and can lead to multiple issue as consent is not being given fully by the TWO PARTIES as they are too drunk.

However for this storyline, Alex was blamed for the pictures being taken of her and going public, he was blamed for being drunk when she was as drunk, he was being blamed for not being there for her when she got pregnant when she never told him, he was blamed for absolutely everything and I don’t think it’s right. I understand what they were trying to do with this storyline but it was poorly made in my opinion and once again seeing the viewers reaction to it because I went to check the comments to get my head around this confirm to me that this was poorly executed as it’s going all over the place : multiple people understood things differently, they saw the storyline differently than others did and for me the education part is losing its meaning if viewers can’t comprehend fully. It just doesn’t give feminist storyline with male accountability that I am sure they wanted to do, it’s giving a woman is the responsibility of a man in every situation because honestly that’s how they made Jean see things, Alex was supposed to be responsable for her in everything and to stop her when he was as drunk when she gave consent. That’s what he is doing in the future but that’s because he already know the situation and was gaslighted to being the sole responsible. And that’s not education for me.

Sorry it got longer than what I wanted to say, I know you probably don’t remember everything as it ended two months ago but I can’t wait to have your opinion on this.

hi, so I've talked many times about the alex/jean storyline kinda ruining the show for me on my blog (I still love the show, but less than what could've been), but I think your ask is very interesting bc it put its finger where I couldn't. I was bothered about alex hurting jean in that way but also couldn't call it r*pe as it's clear in the show he's just way too drunk & didn't hear her, yet this is still a fucked up scene to witness & makes the viewer rightfully uncomfy. imo alex was definitely blamed for everything as a sort of plot device to advance the show, but moreover my issues with the jean/alex storyline was that 1) they ended together despite it all, when it's okay to end up in bad terms, especially for a high school romance, & 2) the entire universe that we saw in the show when they're 30 is rendered useless once alex goes back & changes the past, which felt very empty for me. and yes, while I think the education aspect is very good for the other characters, there's no lesson to be taken from jean & alex. bc the thing is, when you drunkenly violate consent like alex did & give the woman lifelong ptsd like jean had, you don't get to go back in time & make that not happen. you have to live with the consequences of your action and take responsibility, even if you didn't intend for it to happen. so yeah, the warp effect was good & very important for many topics imo, but not the alex/jean storyline.

not gunna lie, i started gen y for fun because i just had a feeling it was gunna be,,, chaotic. and i usually only write semi serious analysis about good bls here but obviously i’m not gunna do that for gen y, i wasn’t planning on posting anything about gen y, but it got so ridiculous i can’t help but to rant about how fucking confused i am lol.

first things first, someone tell me i’m not crazy and that sandee was flirting with phai in like the first 3 episodes. THAT HAPPENED. and then the show tried to convince me it didn’t and i was like uh ??? YEAH THE FUCK IT DID. WHAT WAS THAT WHY DID THAT HAPPEN.

second, i was mildly surprised by how well markkit were going. they actually ended up being the most bearable out of everyone and i was enjoying them, and then the second they got together they just. completely fell off. apparently gen y is a 2 moons fanfic ??? which until i heard that i had no idea why mark’s character had suddenly been dumbed down to the most cliche and sickening romantic with the most second hand embarrassment inducing love declarations ever. and then it all made sense lol. what i was expecting for these last two episodes was for them to finish off their story, ya know, giving them their love scene because it felt like they were leading up to sex, and then the random moving in plot they introduced two eps ago. and then,,, they just didn’t do that ??? which is why i’m confused because, why are they shoving so much poktong in these last two episodes when they could’ve just as easily waited for season 2? explain lol. why did they introduce poktong this season at all, is my question. like what is next season even gunna fucking be ???

last, thanyu and phai need to just. not exist lol. i can’t even tell you how much i hate that storyline and how it just does not fit into the rest of the plot at all. like, the timeline is so beyond fucked up and i don’t know their exact ages, but phai and thanyu’s elusive age difference makes me uncomfy idk. on top of that, this weird little love square wayu, pha, thanyu, and phai have is too damn much. it’s beyond confusing at this point like idk if i should blame it on the acting but thanyu needs to stop jerking everyone around lol. i’m not against this multiple soulmates trope thing (and this being a fanfic would explain why it’s here because it has no place ANYWHERE) because i actually wouldn’t mind a PLATONIC soulmate thing goin on. like phai can be the platonic soulmate idk but it really just feels like the actors heart is with wayu, because that’s where all of his actual acting skills come out.

anyway, if you read this i’m so sorry lol. it’s a mess but so is this show. i didn’t watch 2 moons so i kind of came in confused so lol.

(this isn’t 100% accurate cuz I’ve decided to include shows that are still airing and they may move up or down on the list once they’ve finished airing. Shows with multiple seasons/spin-offs will be counted as one unless I decided that they’re too different to be in one rank. And lastly, I don’t dislike the shows that are low on the list—unless I explicitly say so—I’ve just watched a shitload of dramas, so don’t attack me if ur fave is at 26 or smth lmao)

Again, should be pretty self-explanatory. The plot? The acting? The tropes? Utter perfection.

MY FAVOURITE ON AIR SHOW. It’s so fucking good and it’s sooooo relatable and cute and fun and just GOOD. Ugh it’s a whole blessing. Literally the concept is also just amazing, plus the representation is actually accurate?? LIKE ITS SO RELATABLE JLSJFKJKJKD AND REAL. AND THE CHARACTERS ARE SO KLJLKFJDLKJLSKJD.

10. I Told Sunset About You

THE SETS ARE SO PRETTY. THE VISUALS. ASTOUNDING. THE ACTING KSLJFKJLDF. It exceeded my expectations holy crap and the chinese culture incorporated into it feels so nice and genuine. literally i watched some of it today before my chinese class lmao. OMG AND THE OST.

11. Mr. Heart

ugh this show stole my heart (pun intended).

okay i was going to put this way higher because ITS SO FUCKING GOOD LITERALLY but then again i felt more impressed/attached to the ones above... BUT LITERALLY PEARL AND CAIREEL ARE JUST SDLSJDFSKDFL THE BEST.

20. Sotus

If i could put multiple shows in one rank i would but ive decided not too cuz then there would only be 6 ranks with 10 shows in each one... that’s why sotus is so low TT SORRY I LOVE IT BUT I LOVE OTHER SHOWS A LITTLE MORE.

it was enjoyable. I didn’t like the main couple much tho.

omg this movie i really liked it especially the ending it was really symbolic and i really like slight-horror type things. also FLUKE !!!! a KING of acting.

THE CINEMATOGRAPHY AND SYMBOLISM ON GOD ISLJFDLJD. i don’t see this movie as like... an example of a healthy relationship... but the story itself is really interesting and the way the characters change yet stay the same is cool.

i enjoyed watching it but i dont think i could rewatch it. it was good nonetheless, i don’t regret watching it at all.

it’s good. but the side plots/side couples were not it. yihwa is a queen tho.

i do mention them a lot in my reviews but tbh i hesitate to further discuss problematic behavior that’s seen in BL ... not bc i don’t want to but most times i feel like the way i talk about it on this blog, it glosses over that it’s a real issue OR i talk about it in a way that sounds like i’m defending it but i’m merely trying to say that maybe there are other factors we need to consider to evaluate it (please keep reading for better context, that latter point sounded seriously wack lmao). so basically i’m afraid of being misinterpreted so i just swerve the discussion a little (but i feel like i do make sure to mention when a behavior is definitely crappy).

re: the former reason, that’s bc i have read so many BL in my life that when i read a problematic behavior now i’m just merely like ‘ugh that’s shitty’ and then keep reading (i mean it depends. if someone is seriously getting physically/emotionally abused as part of the plot then i am yeeting out of there bc i don’t enjoy reading that or quickly scrolling/clicking past the scene in question). because yes, a lot of stories out there include problematic behavior without calling it out and i’m sure most of you are aware that the BL genre has some common tropes that are major issues irl. but i also enjoy when stories are realistic with how they handle certain things even if it’s uncomfortable to read at that point in time ... so while i have talked smack before abt some IG comments i have read, i do genuinely appreciate getting a different view from my own to help better shape my opinion bc sometimes i think something and then i read something and i’m like ‘oh ... right i hadn’t considered that’. btw i’m talking about issues like miscommunication or impulsive behaviors that may hurt someone else unknowingly (or even knowingly) ... like y’all can’t possibly tell me that you have never done that yourself or don’t know anyone who’s done it irl. as i have repeated for like the past 2-3 posts ... it’s mad uncomfy to read asshole behavior but it’s legit infuriating when you read asshole behavior and then it’s never really resolved i.e. it gets ignored or romanticized like ‘oh he was just a jerk bc he cares so much for you!’

like i wax poetic a lot abt the manhwa from points of three on here sometimes and that’s bc i really liked how the character of jisuh was handled. i know ppl had issues with jisuh’s behavior upon finding out heejae tricked him and while i acknowledge that yeah jisuh’s behavior was not great ... it made sense based on the fact that he had just come out of an abusive relationship and most likely had a twisted way of thinking. it was not glorified in any way, and i think in the end jisuh acknowledged his behavior hurt heejae and was like ‘yes i do have a crappy way of going about relationships but i’ll try to fix it in the future’ ... but also i was so happy that the finale was jisuh being like ‘i’ll give us a 2nd chance and if we can’t make this work then it’s over for real’. i thought it was very realistic based on what we had seen in the story, not necessarily a HEA. boom another wax poetic abt this manhwa, legit imo one of the best written manhwas i’ve read. also sunyool best boy, he deserved someone better than jisuh who clearly never had feelings for him in the first place

ANYWAY. i don’t think i have any problematic opinions regarding relationships and handling personal issues but i acknowledge i might not be very clear on stuff sometimes. i apologize if you read something i write and think it’s seriously wack; feel free to reply to a post or message me if you have an issue or want further clarification.

Mmmmmmboi ya. Yes. Yep. Im uh. Highkey not gonna say bc I know some of the ppl are still around and I aint abt that vague blogging life. But ya. Mind you it’s not gonna STOP me from interacting with another muse with the same fc, but it does make it-- a little ?? off putting I guess?? At first at least??

On the flip side, I’ve had some, or like one or two ships where it was just so... developed and I was so attached that seeing that fc as a different muse is like ?? but ur not (insert name).

Uhhh not that I know of?? No ?? I can’t really remember all that in depth from my first few years rping. But certainly not from the last few years. I just don’t really associate myself with people who are abusive or whatever?? Even someone who is just... off putting to me or I don’t like they’re attitude or things they post that aren’t abusive but are just... passive aggressive or vague blogging. I will actively avoid them if not softblock them so :/ yknow.

There was the times when I was like 12/13 and the whole “no smut with minors” thing wasn’t really?? I thing?? So a lot of the time I was more or less forced to write it?? I remember one rp partner back then on my friest ever blog would alWAYS turn to smut. And it made me so uncomfy. I always tried to find a way out of it. I shit you not one time I wrote that she fell asleep and this person jsut keep going making their character go on while she slept. It was just--- yIKES.

Not to mention how one rp partner like-- was highkey the trigger/reason i was had(/have??) depression :’) that was fun. I mean-- that whole thing itself, looking back now was dumb. But I was young, like 13 and shit. And ya. It was not fun.

There was the whole drama I breifly mentioned on that other post. That guy in general was a total asssssssss. Like jfc. But on the other hand he and my friendship with him taught me so much and I’m much better for it now ?? Bc of him I learnt that yknow. You can say no to ppl sometimes lmao.

And I guess more recently there have been a few people who will not be named who have just made me super uncomfy?? Even tho I’m not interacting with them at this time. Other mutuals are. And idk. Just seeing them makes me really really uncomfy.
