Oh my fucking god I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Propoganda is not inherently bad.
Propoganda is anything that tries to convine you of something. That’s it. If you see the word propoganda, it’s not automatically a bad thing!
Examples: Anti-vax propoganda. Bad. Environment conservation propoganda. Good.
ALL MEDIA IS PROPOGANDA. All media (news, radio, television, movies, video games, etc) is trying to convince you of something. If you like the main character of a TV show, you’ve been hit with propoganda.
A lot of people watch Grey’s Anatomy and afterwards are like, “I want to be a doctor now.” It’s doctor propoganda and that’s not bad! In any media where edits can be/are made, they are using techniques to get to you like or dislike something.
Lots of people love Brian David Gilbert from Polygon’s Unravelled. Wanna know why??? Because they make specific choices for you to not only like Unravelled’s content, but to like HIM too. It’s propoganda! But it’s not automatically bad! If you didn’t like him or felt indifferent towards him, you most likely wouldn’t watch it.
I’m just so sick of people using propoganda as a communist buzz word. Calling cop shows propoganda doesn’t do anything. Of course they’re going to put cops in a good light. That’s the show. If you didn’t like what they were doing, you wouldn’t watch it. They do the same thing with organized crime but yall don’t flip your shit. Doctors have a long history of being absolute T R A S H to their patients, especially minorities, but yall aint mad about how many shows about doctors are out there.
Pretty much I’m saying that if you see the word propoganda, don’t automatically assume it’s to send you some secret message to make you more right leaning or some shit. SOMETIMES it is like that. SOMETIMES it’s not.
Since I’m already here, you know what actually is bullshit propaganda? The fear of herpes! Most people have the herpes virus and people didn’t care because most of the time, it was harmless. Ever had a cold sore? You have herpes! In the 70s after the sex revolution, they didn’t like that so they made people afraid and ashamed of having herpes so they’d have less sex. THAT is bad propoganda. Brooklyn 99 as cop propoganda is not. Your hearts are in the right place, your energy isn’t.
