not to get on my “the sopranos is all about gender” soapbox but one thing i find REALLY striking about this show so far is just how vividly it depicts how the men and women of this world are so unbelievably constrained by the extremely strict gender roles they inhabit that it even PREVENTS them from adequately performing these very same gender roles that they believe they have to fulfill 

#like the obvious example is tony soprano suppressing all his emotions to the point where he literally blacks out #but even carmela's inability to confront how she really feels damages her relationships with both tony and her kids #and the reason they can't communicate is that their marriage is fundamentally based in this dynamic #the sopranos #k watches the sopranos #text
