Liira/Unsuur Morning Headcanons

-) Unsuur usually wakes up thirty minutes after Liira because his job requires him to work long hours. Thus sleeping extra will allow him to catch up on his lost sleep. Liira will often play a record from the vinyl record player Qi had built—Smooth Jazz or R&B—to gently awaken Unsuur into a realm of relaxation. And the smell of cinnamon from the porridge and fresh Yakmel milk rises upstairs and lures him down.

-) Sometimes Unsuur is up before Liira to chop wood to fuel her machinery or feed the farm animals, and then he helps her make breakfast. Then, he'll gently kiss the top of her head and place a hot plate of food in front of her as she sips a cup of hot tea.

-) Sometimes, the couple will wake up simultaneously and freshen up in the bathroom together to conserve water. Liira will be at the sink curling her hair or doing her facial routine while Unsuur is behind the glass partition, getting blasted with hot water and steaming up her mirror. But if Unsuur is feeling a little *ahem* adventurous, he'll coax her into taking a shower with him... y'know...to conserve water ;).

-) Before Unsuur met Liira, he often did morning stretches in bed. Now, he can’t do his daily morning stretches in bed because he’ll end up elbowing Liira’s bonnet-covered head. Now, Liira also makes it incredibly hard to get up when she’s lying beside him, all cozy and warm under the sheets looking beautiful in her sleep. Poor Unsuur can’t think of anything worse than leaving her side and going about his day.

-) Whenever Unsuur leaves the bedroom, he’ll always walk around the bed and kiss Liira on the cheek. Sometimes she’ll wake up, sometimes not. Sometimes there’s a semi-conscious “Are you leaving? Stay safe” or a groggy, “I love you...”

-) If Nemo is a good boy and doesn't wake up Mommy and Daddy by running around in circles barking his head off or jumping on their backs like a trampoline, he'll get extra early morning scritches and cuddles.

(A WIP snippet from a fanfic I'm currently working on: Home & Hearth. The events of Knives Out have left Builder Liira depressed, heartbroken, and pregnant with Pen's child...only to move on and find a new love in Unsuur. The first chapter starts with Unsuur's pov, where he contemplates the events that led him to fall in love with Liira, confess his feelings, and adjust to life as the stepfather of Pen's daughter. I was in the mood for some family fluff, and this happened)

Obsessively, Unsuur kept track of every detail of his Liira’s pregnancy. Still, he hadn’t been prepared for the sheer emotion of watching the little Builder round out, of feeling the small kicks and flutters of the baby grow into a more robust, more demanding activity. And if the mere moment of life unfolding before his eyes had blindsided him, how had Liira felt with that same little life growing inside of her?

Sometimes, even during the physical misery of the last month of pregnancy, he’d caught an expression on her face, a rapt, absorbed look as she unconsciously stroked her belly, that told him she was lost in a world inhabited only by herself and her baby, Pen’s final gift to her before his inevitable fall from grace. And then Kaya had arrived, squalling and healthy. Unsuur had felt light-headed with relief and euphoria, cradling the little bundle wrapped in a sepia-colored blanket (Liira’s favorite color ).

In the six weeks since, each day seemed to bring some small change as the infant grew; the dark-purple fuzz on her head had become curly like her mother’s, and her skin was the same shade of dark brown as Liira’s with bright brown eyes that were alert. Kaya was noticing things, recognizing voices, waving her chubby little arms and legs in a jerky, uncoordinated rhythm as her muscles grew in strength, cooing happily whenever Mi-An or Owen lifted her in their arms. She loved bathtime. She loved being bundled up in the baby sling Fang had made for her. She loved babbling to Wilson and stacking rocks. She cried when she was hungry. Slept after feeding. Both he and Liira had been able to tell the difference within days and loved her all the more for it.

The changes in his beloved were fascinating, too. Liira had always held herself apart from the world as if she were more an observer than a participant. A Builder far from home and living in the suffocating confines of Sandrock. Before his misdeeds had been brought to light, Pen had a way of coaxing Liira out of her shell or making her laugh and smile. Sometimes, he would lift her up in his strong arms and spin round and round until Liira was breathless, giggling and kissing him, blooming under his affections. After Pen had been sent to prison for his crimes, Liira had locked herself away in her workshop, barely venturing out and only speaking in quieter, clipped sentences.

Unsuur had no way of communicating with her and had resigned himself to leaving letters in her mailbox only to be caught in the act when she'd appeared before him, eyes red-rimmed and confused, looking so beautiful in the light of the rising sun.

And it had only taken Liira catching him in the act for her to leave her workshop for the first time in weeks and chase after him, finding him in the dark confines of his closet.

The rest was history.

Liira had been a silent puzzle from the moment she first came to town, but he had stubbornly worked to earn her trust until she couldn’t help but notice him as a person rather than a face in the background. Unsuur could remember perfectly the exact moment when he’d succeeded: they had been taking refuge in his home during a fierce sandstorm, and in the middle of teaching Liira how to make his famous lemon soup, introducing her to Wilson and showing off his rock collection, Liira had looked at him and stared, a faintly soft expression crossing her face as if he were her entire world. That was it; no weeping, no heartfelt exchanges in the night, just a sudden gentle clarity in her gaze as she finally, truly saw him. Then Unsuur had smiled and leaned forward to kiss her...,

...and she’d kissed him back.

Did I mention how much Liira loves her little herd of Yakmel? Of course, Liira enjoys a ride in the tractor she built, but there’s nothing like carefully driving through a pasture of at least a dozen Yakmel that makes her appreciate farming. Raising these cow-like creatures requires time, dedication, and an understanding of the animal and its needs. Liira and Unsuur put hundreds of hours of labor into each animal daily to ensure their health and well-being. Liira loves seeing happy, healthy cattle grazing each summer and watching new Yakmel calves enter the world each winter. Unsuur also loves decorating the Yakmel enclosure with colorful rocks he dug up. The old girls love how quartzes and diamonds sparkle in the light of the sun.

There’s something so soothing about seeing her tiny herd outside her bedroom window and wishing them a good morning. And watching their precious calves bouncing around all day long? Even better!

Liira: *flicks light back off* Yeah, but wouldn't it be better if this was done in the dark?

Unsuur: *flicks light back on* No. You're beautiful, and the lights will stay on until I've seen every part of you.

Liira is a huge supporter of Unsuur's rock-hound nature and is constantly building shelves for him to put his rocks on display and building extra rooms in her home so that Wilson and his rock "babies" will have plenty of space ( yes, Wilson has children. Don't ask ).

One time, Liira built a glass box for Unsuur's collection with the exact dimensions of a cardboard box but with fewer compartments. It took her a week to acquire the necessary tools to make it, but it was worth it because she wanted Unsuur to show off his rocks in style. Plus, the box is of excellent quality. Not wanting Unsuur to lose track of which rock is which, Liira also grabbed some double-sided tape, affixed the labels to the bottom of the glass, and arranged each rock by color and popularity.

When it comes to Unsuur and physical affection, it’s all about the art of seduction, and he won’t just randomly kiss Liira. He has to set the mood with the perfect music and lighting, or if he’s feeling particularly passionate, he’ll take her by the hand and pull her against him. He’ll start slow with cautious kisses, but as his senses heighten with Liira pleading for more, his kisses will deepen and become all-consuming.

Notes: Recently, my obsession with Builder x Unsuur has grown to fanatical heights, and the Knives Out update has only increased that obsession. No spoilers, but Unsuur is top tier when it comes to romance.

General:

How long will they last? - Until they both die from old age.

How quickly did/will they fall in love? - Hmm... Well, because of the mystery letters Liira received in her mailbox, it's safe to assume that Unsuur was the one who fell first, watching her from afar and marveling at her accomplishments until he finally decided to make his admiration known through letters. Their romance was a slow, steady burn, with Unsuur falling harder.

How was their first kiss? -  Soft and chaste. They were sitting side by side, counting some of the rocks he collected, when suddenly, Unsuur leaned down a little and kissed her when she turned her head to face him.

Wedding:

Who proposed? - Unsuur. Liira was actually going to propose to him first, but he beat her to it.  

Who is the best man/men? - Justice or Captain. Unsuur had difficulty choosing, so he made them both his best man. Justice showed up with Captain in his arms. Both were dressed to the nines, with the cat wearing an adorable bow tie and hat.

Who is the braid’s maid(s)? - Liira's best friend, Mi-an

Who did the most planning? - Both. Unsuur and Liira had a specific theme for their wedding that included warm palettes and rocks that Unsuur handpicked. Hell, even their wedding rings were made out of quartz.

Who stressed the most? - Liira. Liira was nervous that the wedding wouldn’t be the “dream wedding” she always wanted and that Unsuur would realize that he had made a mistake and leave her at the altar. Of course, Unsuur had his wedding jitters, but Liira's was worst and would have spiraled if Trudy hadn't given her a much-needed pep talk.

How fancy was the ceremony? - Back of a pickup truck | 2 | 3 | 4 | Normal Church Wedding | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Kate and William wish they were this big.

Who was specifically not invited to the wedding? - Everyone was invited, but let's just say that certain members of the Church of Light were not given an invitation...for obvious reasons.

Who is on top? - It depends. Unsuur is not shy when it comes to sex, and Liira is always happy to switch it up a little. They have a very healthy sex life, with both working together to ensure the other feels good and safe.

Who is the one to instigate things? - Surprisingly Unsuur. He’ll pick her up and carry her off to their room if he's in the mood.

How healthy is their sex life? - Barely touch themselves let alone each other | 2 | 3 | 4 | Once a couple weeks, nothing overboard | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | They are humping each other on the couch right now

Who gets stuck with the most diapers? - Unsuur. Liira does change the diapers, but she’s usually too busy doing supply runs or working on commissions to help with the baby. That doesn't mean she's lazy or a bad mother. She does bring her kid with her to work in a cute little baby sling. You'll often see her riding around town on her camel with the baby strapped safely to her back. 

Who is the stricter parent? - Liira and Unsuur are not strict parents, but they aren't lax in giving out punishments. However, Unsuur is the more laid-back parent, whereas Liira is quietly firm and instills a healthy amount of discipline in her child.

Who stops the kid(s) from doing dangerous stunts after school? - Liira. Why? Because she used to be that kid who did dangerous stunts back when she and Nia were kids.

Who remembers to pack the lunch(es)? - Unsuur.

Who is the more loved parent? - Both. Their child loves both parents equally.

Who is more likely to attend the PTA meetings? - Liira. Unsuur is one of those “MY KIDS WOULDN’T DO THAT” parent so Liira is usually the one teachers call up to the school.

Who cried the most at graduation? - Liira and Unsuur.

Who is more likely to bail the child(ren) out of trouble with the law? - Unsuur. He'll just simply frame a rock and get his kid off Scott-free. 

Cooking:

Who does the most cooking? - Unsuur. The man is a five-star chef in the kitchen and can make the most delicious meals.

Who is the most picky in their food choice? - Liira. She wants her food cooked in a certain way, but she does eat whatever Unsuur puts in front of her.

Who does the grocery shopping? - Liira. Sometimes, Unsuur will be too busy with the Civil Corps to do any grocery shopping, so Liira is always the one getting food.

How often do they bake desserts? - Not often. Liira will sometimes make a pound cake, but that’s just about it.

Are they more of a meat lover or a salad eater? - Both will eat salads and meats.

Who is more likely to surprise the other(s) with an anniversary dinner? - Liira. She can’t cook worth a shit, but that won’t stop her from trying.

Who is more likely to suggest going out? - Unsuur. He'll go into the desert to dig up rare minerals and bring Liira along with him.

Who is more likely to burn the house down accidentally while cooking? - Liira.

Chores:

Who cleans the room? - Liira. She’s extremely neat and will do a deep cleanse of the house every weekend. 

Who is really against chores? - Neither.

Who cleans up after the pets? - Both. Their pets consist of the dog, Nemo, and Liira's camel, Brownie.

Who is more likely to sweep everything under the rug? - Neither.

Who stresses the most when guests are coming over? - Liira. She wants things to be absolutely perfect and will have a meltdown if she spots even a speck of dust on the wall. 

Who found a dollar between the couch cushions while cleaning? - Liira.

Misc:

Who takes the longer showers/baths? - Liira. She likes to drown her hair in honey shampoo and snuggle with Unsuur in the tub. 

Who takes the dog out for a walk? - Unsuur. Nemo has a gift for sniffing out rocks, and the pup will always present one to Unsuur.

How often do they decorate the room/house for the holidays? - They love decorating for the holidays to the point where their house is drowning in lights and decorations. 

What are their goals for the relationship? - For Unsuur, it’s bettering himself as a person and keeping Liira happy. For Liira, it’s learning how to be in a happy and healthy relationship without the toxicity she experienced with Pen. 

Who is most likely to sleep till noon? - Neither.

Who plays the most pranks? - Unsuur. He prefers harmless pranks that aren’t jump scares or cause bodily harm. He'll play little pranks like hiding a whoopie cushion in a chair or mismatching socks.
