Land Rover Series 1 80" Lights Behind the Grille 1950 Ex Military Model Built in 1949. Nut & Bolt Restoration In May 1949 Rovers managing director Spencer Wilks reported to the board of directors the first major order from the British Ministry of Supply of 1878 Land Rovers for British Military use. With the Land Rover already a massive international success and production bursting Solihull's war time factory bursting at the seams they began production of these vehicles in August 1949. Each carried a War Department issue registration number starting with 00 BC 01 to 18 BC 78. This 1950 model Land Rover was completed in December 1949 as a part of that original first contract. It's War Department issue registration is 12 BC 68 and it spent a little over a decade in service before being decommissioned in 1963. It was sold off and civilian registered in July 1963 with the current registration number at the County Borough Council of Birkenhead where it led a normal working life for the next 20 years in the area. In the early 1980's it was passed into hands of a Land Rover Series One Club member as a good solid runabout, but hand brush painted in Brown and Cream 1970's fence paint before coming off the road in the late 1980's. A full nut and bolt restoration has very recently been completed and it has been restored as per the original specification and painted in the original Bronze Green body colour and trimmed in original Green Vinyl. The vehicle still carries many of its original component parts from December 1949 and is easily ready for the next 70 years. The vehicle has correct early features such as the early 20/20 ammeter gauge, correct double wire door hinges, military style tyres, no drop plate as this wasn't fitted to Military vehicles, most had the spare wheel mount on the bonnet which this vehicle does have. The khaki canvas is more suited to a Military Land Rover. This is a lovely example of an exceptional rare vehicle. Land Rover Series 1 86" 28,000 Miles Original Patina 3 Owners from New. The original supplying dealer was Armstrong & Fleming Ltd, Penrith Cumbria. It was first sold to Mr.Booth from Carnforth he owned the vehicle for 2 years. Then Mr. Taylor until 1970, Mr Thirwall brought the car and it remained in the Carlisle area until 2011 a total of 55 years. The car comes with the original buff log book and two later log books. We have tax discs going back to 1959, which is a really rare find. The vehicle has recently been recommissioned and still has its original 2 litre spread bore engine, the recommissioning included, new tyres, brakes, exhaust, bushes in the springs, a worn canvas, the original carburettor was refurbished, new ignition system. The vehicle has an excellent chassis that only required a small repair on the rear cross member, which has been done. It even has its original seats in the front. This vehicle has some very original features such as original horns, smiths heater, Lucas wing mirrors that extend, correct pork pie lights, spare wheel. Land Rover Series 3 88" 1976 Bronze Green Soft Top Galvanised Chassis LCY 517P- TAX & MOT EXEMPT LCY has only had seven owners since new of which a majority have owned the vehicle for long periods of time. Previous mot's show the vehicle has had very little use in recent years and has covered only 750 miles since 2013. However it has been maintained and kept on the road each year. The history file also shows invoices for various work and servicing over the years. We sold this vehicle 3 years ago to the last owner and were delighted when we had the opportunity to buy the vehicle back. First Registered 15th February 1976 this is now a tax and mot exempt vehicle with the benefit of the original chassis being galvanised therefore there is no need to worry about corrosion in the future. Land Rover Series 1 88” 4x2 Ex Military 1958 Model in Original Condition A rare opportunity to acquire an exceptionally original and very rare 1958 Land Rover Series 1 88" 4x2. The vehicle on offer is the 179th 88" home market vehicle built in 1958. Only 655 of these vehicles were made not many survive especially still in 4x2 configuration. This particular vehicle still retains its original beam axle. The original military registration number was 03 CE 38. These vehicles were all supplied as part of a batch of vehicles specified and ordered by the War Office (Army) in 1958 as part of a later to be aborted vehicle standardisation exercise.There were to be a number of vehicle classes two of which were CT or Combat Truck and CL or Commercial logistics, in the light vehicle category CT were vehicles like the Austin Champ which were specifically designed for combat operations as gun platforms etc and generally had no civilian use counterpart. CL vehicles were generally civilian vehicles lightly modified for military use which usually means tow hooks and towing electrical sockets. The army were looking to replace the ageing Austin 10 Utility Truck (better known as Austin Tilly) and Rover offered a modified version of their standard Mk.5 vehicle to fill the role. Only 655 were produced as soft tops with a further 10 or so that were supplied as hard tops, rumour has it that they were much more expensive than their 4x4 counterparts but the War Office were happy with them. From what we can gather they would have been used by non frontline units such as driver training and some military police units. CL vehicles in use at the time were only kept in service for 4 years before disposal, CT's would have been in service longer. Most of the Mk.5 4x2 Rovers were cast during 1963 and a large proportion went to Ministry of Public Building and Works later the Department of the Environment. Most of the Land Rovers ended up with London, FUV registrations which were issued on block to the Ministry.
