Knitting FO: Deborah Cardigan

Pattern: Robinson Cardigan by Florence Miller (Handmade by Florence)

Yarn: Drops Flora and Kid-Silk Mohair, held together.

Inspired by: a cardigan worn by Yoo In-Na on Bo Ra! Deborah / True to Love, Episode 3.

It's done!

It was supposed to have more positive ease but whatever, I like it

The ribbons are very fluffy, more than I expected but I've decided to consider them a dramatic statement. Since they are so long I'll be able to make various kinds of bows with them :)

In hindsight:

Just do double-knit edges instead of i-cord.

I should have tried it on with the jeans I planned to wear it with before I started the ribbing, so I could so I could check the length.

I wanted the neck to be sloped in 2 different directions like in the original cardigan, but I messed up with the decreases. In the future, I could try to add a button to try and recreate the little angle, but we'll see.

As I said, it was meant to have more positive ease. I planned to knit a size up to achieve that and then I... didn't? Why??

The future

I have so much black yarn left, I only used 1.5 balls out of 5. I have no idea what to do with it as I don't want to make a sweater/cardigan/hat/scarf. I was thinking a pair of gloves but that won't use much yarn.

I want to take a break from garment making. With my pace it's clear that I need something like 6 months to complete a sweater-like piece and I have to make some winter accessories by September, since I'll be moving to a very cold country.

So onto accessories!

My next project will be completing the Stoïque sock I'm working on (almost done with the heel) and then I'll start a hat with some v expensive yarn I bought in February. Then I'll tackle my first gloves and by that time, it should be September.

Bo Ra! Deborah / True To Love is a fun and silly little watch...but WHAT A MIXED BAG!

I love the relationship between the leads, even though her job is real dumb.  Yoo In Ah is always a joy to watch so I’m dealing with her ridiculous dating rules - like someone save anyone who listens to her. Back to the relationship (it’s a rom com after all): I like that it’s being built about them getting to know one another and him supporting her while she’s going through a tough time. It’s very cute.

Also the friendship and her relationship with her sister are lovely too!

But the married couple is painful to watch. They don’t really seem to even like each other. Correction: The man doesn’t seem to enjoy being married to his wife? Like he hides from her and has a secret room. Most of the scenes are her wanting to have sex with him and him ignoring her or the opposite (though mostly it’s her). 

And the younger couple - they are also pretty adorable but if I think about it too hard, I’ll notice that the guy texted her until she told him she’d block him and then got a job specifically in her area of town so that he’d run into her and well... isn’t that just a little stalker-y?

True to Love/Deborah is so weird. One minute it's so cringey/dumb and then next minute it has really mature & good writing

like, people will act like God Himself came down from Heaven to write this screenplay... And then the writers will have sis dropping in a reference to Auschwitz to describe her post breakup strategy....

on the other hand... Though i was talking shit about it before, it makes sense for Suhyeok & Bora to remain friends. It's way too soon for them to be dating, since they've just started to move on. They seem to have a lot of feelings for each other but they also genuinely have a great friendship. Besides, at this point in their journey, they just need companionship from someone who understand what they're going thru. I love how they resolved their fight and the kiss, it was wholesome and usually not seen in media.

I guess what it boils down to is, i just wish they'd done this sooner instead of focusing so much time on the breakup itself. And maybe devoted more time to Suhyeok's own healing process instead of just having Bora embarass herself in front of him a million times. They've just started to really unpack what he's been going through... now. At EP. 10. When we supposedly have only 4 more eps to go.

what I liked about ep. 10 is that for the first time she's the one comforting him instead of it always being a one way street.

It’s also cool how the writers are subverting our initial read of Suhyeok being an unemotionally available jerk. Maybe he was one, but it turns out there’s more to the story and Yuri was not an angel either. like damn, the way Yuri said relationships are meant to be petty or mean... that was ice cold 🥶🥶🥶 and some genuinely good writing.

Bora's own silly strategies got thrown in her face and now she has to save Suhyeok because of what she taught others. Maybe another aspect that could have been focused on instead of Bora embarrassing herself compilation #10.
