The Jammu Genocide

The Jammu Genocide refers to the period in Autumn 1947 where an estimate of over 200-250 thousand Muslims in the Jammu region by paramilitaries such as RSS Hari Singh ( the man in the picture) .

Around April 1947, RSS + other extremist paramilitaries began plans for Muslim genocide.

Following this, the Maharaja visited Jammu province but there would be no Muslim officers in the touring. Days later, he visits Rawalakot, but he would visit Hindus in the area not Muslims.

Upon return, he created new units, made of of Dogra's and Gurkha's and banned meetings of 5+ people.

He would also demand Muslims surrender their weapons...WHILE those weapons were redistributed to non-Muslims. Hari Singh viewed it as necessary for the Dogra's planned genocide.

Worth noting 60,000 from his state fought in WW2 (from the Sudhan tribe, for the British army.) and got kindly 'repaid' by disarmament and rejection from the Maharaja's army.

In August the British Raj would be partitioned on the basis of religious demographic, by this time Dogra's and Mahajan's would be desperate to exterminate Muslims and make the territory Hindu.

Many Hindu and Sikh refugees would temporarily reside in Jammu and would give highly exaggerated accounts of suffering, serving as propaganda to get a good amount of the population on board, including the refugees who had arrived recently at Jammu. These two events together would lead to a plan to exterminate Jammu's Muslim population.

October 1947, the genocide planned out for months would begin in Bhimber tehsil, with attacks beginning with the slogan "Jai Maharaj." A common tactic was the arson of houses, this happened in 4 villages. In Kotli tehsil similar events would unfold in villages. Many would die

1 day later, a massacre would take place at Akhnoor bridge. 15k Muslims from Akhnoor and nearby would be forced to leave for Pakistan through the bridge, but Dogra soldiers opened fire killing masses of them.

Many claiming the killing was so bad blood was flowing on the bridge.

On the same day, a massacre would take place in Kathua district, with a considerable death toll of over 8000. It is claimed that women and children were not spared from these massacres and were killed to.

Only 100 of these 8000 would actually survive the massacre.

Another massacre would take place in Sambha, with Hindu & Sikh soldiers sieging it, containing 14k Muslims. Soldiers would cut rations and water.

The Maharaja would visit & after women were taken by state soldiers & men were slaughtered.

15 would survive, fleeing to Sialkot.

It's not over. Another massacre happened at Miran Sahib, where about 25k Muslims were SUPPOSED to be evacuated to Pakistan. As it was happening Dogra troops took away belongings and the women. Men were made to line up and be shot by machine guns.

100 survived, hiding in fields.

During November, the Maharaja demanded all Muslims leave the state, lying that Pakistan had asked for them.

They assembled at the parade ground thinking they would be sent to Suchetgarh but the convoy went to Kathua road and they were also massacred. 8000 were killed over 4 days.

As mentioned earlier, aside from the massacres, the abduction of women also took place.

These especially happened in Jammu, Kathua, Reasi and Udhampur. The number of abductions is estimated at 25k

This would all lead to mass migration of Jammu Muslims to Sialkot, Pakistan due to its closeness and a pre-established road and railway connection.

Some also went due to previous financial and familial ties to the city.

It is worth noting throughout this that the goal of the genocide was for Dogra's + RSS to take advantage of the partition's religious majority criteria (making it Hindu majority) to get accession to go one way.

This demographic idea is still used now through settler colonialism.

Poonch terror attack: Probe leads to villager who provided shelter, food to terrorists

Sources said that a villager has reportedly admitted to having provided logistics, including food and shelter, to the terrorists who attacked the Army vehicle on April 20, killing 5 soldiers.

In a major breakthrough in the investigation into the terror attack on an Army vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on April 20, a villager has reportedly admitted to having provided logistical support to the terrorists for nearly two-three months.

While senior police and security forces officers remained tight-lipped about the development, sources said the villager was one of the nearly 60 people picked up for questioning after the terror attack on the Bhimber Gali-Surankote-Poonch Road that killed five soldiers and injured another.

Sources said that the terrorists who attacked the Army vehicle reportedly stayed at the villager’s house initially and later moved into the Bhatta Durian forests. The villager has reportedly admitted to having provided logistics, including food and shelter, to the terrorists.

The villager was also taken inside the forest by security forces to lead them to the terrorists’ hideout.

Apart from known over-ground workers (OGWs), the police and security forces had picked up many people for questioning on the basis of their mobile phone locations near the site of the terror attack at the time. Police sources said that a number of people were let off after nothing was found against them.

The security forces and police continued searches for the past week in the forests of Bhatta Durian and areas along the Line of Control in the Balakote, Mendhar and Mankote sectors. However, there has been no trace of the terrorists.

Meanwhile, Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi on Wednesday took stock of the progress of ongoing searches in the area and interacted with the troops. This was his second visit to the area in five days as he had earlier gone there on April 22.

Kulwant Singh, soldier killed in Poonch terror attack, was son of Kargil war hero

Lance Naik Kulwant Singh joined the army in 2010, 11 years after his father made the supreme sacrifice in the heights of Kargil.

One the five jawans who made the supreme sacrifice in the terror attack in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, Lance Naik Kulwant Singh met a heroic end like his father who lost his life in the Kargil conflict in 1999.

He had joined the army in 2010, 11 years after his father made the supreme sacrifice in the heights of Kargil.

"Before leaving home, he told me that he would be fine and asked me not to worry," Lance Naik Kulwant Singh's mother told ANI.

Kulwant is survived by a one-and-a-half-year-old daughter and a three-month-old son, who reside at Chadik village in Moga.

The sarpach of the village said since Kulwant was the sole bread-winner of the family, the government should come forward to extend all help to his family.

"Kulwant Singh was the only bread-winner of the family and he laid down his life in Kargil. The government should come forward and help his family," Gurcharan Singh, the sarpanch, told ANI.

An Army vehicle passing between Bhimber Gali and Poonch in the Rajouri sector was fired upon by unidentified terrorists on Thursday, the army said in a statement. The vehicle caught fire due to the likely use of grenades by suspected LeT terrorists, the army added in its statement.

Five personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles deployed for counterterrorism operations in the area lost their lives in the incident, the Army said.

Following the attack, the army launched a massive operation on Friday to hunt down a group of around six to seven terrorists, which it said was behind the ambush.

"The Army and security agencies have received inputs about the presence of 6-7 terrorists operating in two groups in the Rajouri-Poonch sector near the area where the incident took place yesterday," a defence source told ANI.

"Multiple special forces teams along with drones and surveillance helicopters have been rushed to the area to help carry out search-and-destroy operations there," the source said.

The security forces, including the army, police and intelligence agencies, are coordinating the operations.

"More details are being ascertained about their route of ingress into the area. The search is being conducted extensively in the area where multiple cave-type natural structures are present," said the source.

Jammu and Kashmir's winter capital is perched on a hill overlooking the northern plains on the Shivalik Range. The city of Jammu, which is also the state's winter capital and is referred to as the "city of temples," is whence the district of Jammu gets its name.

Jammu is located on a hillock along the Tawi River and is bordered by the districts of Rajauri and POK (Bhimber) in the northwest, Kathua district in the east and southeast, Pakistan (Sialkot) in the west, and Udhampur district in the north and northeast. Amar Mahal Palace

The architectural wonder along the National Highway leading to Srinagar is the Amar Mahal Palace. A stunning palace made of red sandstone sits among Jammu's most gorgeous vistas and was constructed like a French chateau on a hill overlooking the Tawi River.
