“This” – he shakes the papers – “doesn't fix it. Not all of it. Not by a long shot. I don't understand you girls. The boys don't behave this way.”
He's right. But I want to remind him of how different it is to be a female dancer, treated like we're completely replaceable by choreographers, while the boys are praised for their unique genius, their dedication to being a male ballet dancer when the world might think it's unmasculine. He rubs a hand over his face and passes the settlement papers back to my mother.
“I didn't push Gigi.” My words echo in the room. They feel heavy, like they're my very last words.
“If you're innocent, prove it.”
I can. I will.

Featuring a diverse cast of characters, plenty of gossip, lies, and scandal, Shiny Broken Pieces continues with the soapy drama readers loved in Tiny Pretty Things. June, Bette, and Gigi are competing one final time for a spot at the prestigious American Ballet Company. With the stakes higher than ever, these girls have everything to lose and no one is playing nice. June is starting to finally see herself as a prima ballerina. But being the best could mean sacrificing the love of her life. Legacy dancer Bette is determined to clear her name after she was suspended and accused of hurting her rival, Gigi. And Gigi is not going to let Bette or the other dancers who bullied her go unpunished. It all comes down to this last dance. Who will make the cut? And who will lose her dream forever?
Since I was a small child I have had an interest in ballet, I wasn't obsessed but I did find it fascinating, television help foster that because when I was a child they use to air tv specials of the certain ballets during the holidays, the nutcracker would also air during the holidays and when I got older there was even a reality show (I know but can you blame me) that followed a ballet company out it Salt Lake City.
When the Tiny Pretty Things book synopsis was released I couldn't be more pleased. It's about ballerinas and it is set in one of my favorite cities, New York. So even though I rarely read contemporary I knew I had to pick it up. Tiny Pretty Things was nothing how I thought it would be. It had ballet but it also focused on dark social issues, morals and had diversity. The plot was compelling and I couldn't wait to see who did what next.
Needless to say I loved it, so of course I picked up the sequel Shiny Broken Pieces. This book ... I though the things that went down in the first book was bad well things hot a helluva lot worse and at times I didn't know if I could even finish reading the book. The same issues discussed in the first book are in Shiny Broken Pieces as well. The moral code is grayer in this one, the treatment of the male dancers versus the female dancers, parenting issues, drug use, there is still the concept of eating disorders and the bullying.
While the teachers have address it, the bullying it hasn't stopped and the adults have done nothing to change the situation. The students are still doing things to each other and a familiar face is back, Cassie has turned into a complete new person and the change is not for the better. Bette is out of the conservatory and working for redemption while my favorite character Gigi has gone to the dark side, doing mean pranks to get revenge and I almost couldn't take it.
A lot of the things that happen in Shiny Broken Pieces are a result in what happened in Tiny Pretty Things. There are major consequences to the things that happen in the previous book and the events that happen change people in ways and they won't ever be the same person ever again. It was finally revealed who was behind some of the horrible things that happened to Gigi in the previous books and the consequences that stem from that.
Shiny Broken Pieces is an appropriate name for the book, in some way or another every girl there has been broken in some way and it's up to them to put their pieces back together. This really was an excellent read, I flew through this book and loved finding out who was behind what and waiting to see what would happen next and I must say a lot of the events surprised me. I really did enjoy the duology and now I will be seeking even more ballerina books and I hope that they will be just as good as this series.

11. How many books do you read in a month?
This year my goal was to read 60 books in 2017, so I read about five on average? Next year I’m going for 75 though, so 6-7 will be the average! It really depends though, sometimes I can read a book a week, and other times it’ll be like 5 books in one week, so it depends!
27. Favorite character/s?
Oh man here we go. Daisy Calloway (Addicted / Calloway Sisters series), America Singer (The Selection series), Adelina Amouteru (The Young Elites series), Cath Avery (Fangirl), Juniper Kipling (Seven Ways We Lie), Nina Zenik (Six of Crows duology), Bette Abney (Tiny Pretty Things duology), Juliette Ferrars (The Shatter Me series), Rachel Dare & Piper Mclean (Percy Jackson series and Heroes of Olympus series), Kestrel Trajan (The Winner’s Trilogy series), Jude Sweetwine (I’ll Give You The Sun), Jean Honeychurch (Jinx), Mare Barrow (Red Queen series), Lara Jean Song-Covey (To All The Boys I Loved Before), Eleanor Douglas (Eleanor & Park).... to name a few.
45. Paperback or Hardback?
I think day to day, paperback is easier to read, but gosh, hardbacks are just so pretty, and when you have all the books in a series and they’re all hardbacks? I’m shookt at the very thought.
