#because Hamas is a fucking cartel

I've seen some posts recently and I feel it's necessary to say this again, as someone who has been following, protesting and agonizing over this for more than 20 years:
Supporting Israel's right to exist and supporting Israeli's rights to not be raped, murdered, tied to their children and being burned alive is NOT the same as supporting Netanyahu's fascists government.
Yes. These things happened. I have friends who were direct victims and luckily survived along with their 10-month-old.
These things have been happening for a long time.
BUT
Supporting Palestinian rights to not be incarcerated in a ghetto, being carpet bombed, to not be the victims of ethnic cleansing, to not have their children shot for being angry is NOT the same as supporting Hamas either.
And yes, these things happen, and they have been happening for a long time, according to my Palestinian friend, whose family is just trapped in Gaza.
Hamas and Netanyahu are cut from the same cloth. They need each other and there are good indication that they support each other to a certain point.
Read up on how both Hamas and Netanyahu came into power, who their supporters are. Who is against them.
I still remember a time when there was hope. When there seemed to be a realistic chance of peace, stability and freedom.
We do not hear much about the thousand upon thousands who protested Netanyahu in the last years because the western press shies away from anything even remotely criticizing Israel. We don't hear about those who oppose Hamas at all, because they have been killed long ago, or struggle too much to have the energy to protest.
The leader of Hamas lives in a plush apartment in Qatar. He said it was a good thing that Palestinian women and children died (because marketing, ya know).
A state is never just the ones whose faces you know.
It's the children, the people who just want to live.
And the moment, you deny them that right, you are wrong. No matter how just your cause.
Israel and Palestine are its children, too, and they DESERVE that support. Every support they can possibly get.
There is an orchestrated social media campaign going on at the moment, headed by Russia (surprise), to make Hamas look like the fighters for freedom and happiness that they definitely aren't. But the US having to help Israel diverts their attention from Ukraine, so fuck that.
You need to get your own history, you need to look at this with a neutral gaze, beyond the videos you see online, beyond the pictures and the things you get told. Do not believe the things you get told.
Go back 30 years. Read up on PLO, Fatah, Hamas, Yitzak Rabin (who btw. pushed through LGBT equality in the Israeli army, just as an aside) Read up on who murdered whom and how that led us to the situation today. (Look especially at what Netanyahu said about the Jewish religious fanatics that murdered Rabin)
Find out who the bad actors are in this and who really are the victims. You will realize very quickly that support for Israel or Gaza and Palestine is not the clear cut black and white issue it's made out to be.
And then ask yourselves if your really, REALLY want to be someone who is ok with the death and displacement of millions of civilians.
And how you can help the victims better in this.
Because no matter how just your cause, if that's the case, you are on the wrong side.

Regardless of who's right or wrong or whatever is happening in Gaza, you have to admit one thing
What DID Hamas think was going to happen by:
Firing 5000 rockets into Israel
Invading Israeli help territory and declaring war
Kidnapping and murdering civilians in Israeli territory
Regardless of whether their actions and Israel's response is justified in this decades long tit for tat bullshit where both sides have been provoking each other relentlessly, did they really think Israel wasn't going to respond and, in the event that they lost(which they did), did they really think Israel wasn't going to respond with the same level of violence as America did post-9/11? They killed 1k+ civilians and are crying about how Israel is committing genocide like they're not hiding behind the civilians they're complaining are getting killed.
Hamas is literally the stupidest motherfuckers because they pulled their little jihad bullshit expecting what?? Compare it to the cartels on the southern border of the US. Some of their dudes killed some US civilians and the cartel flipped the fuck out and handed their guys over to the police because they knew they didn't want to incite the wrath of the US military, knowing they're outmatched and outgunned and at any time the US could cross the border with justification and fuck their entire existence up. If Hamas had this level of fucking self awareness, this would have never happened.
And on the issue of what did they expect?? Let's go into some possibilities here, shall we?
Did they expect the rest of the Arab world to step in and help? Who exactly would be coming to their aid?? Jordan? Got fucked in the 90s, ain't gonna happen again. Egypt? Western ally post 2012 coup. Libya? Still fucked beyond belief post/current civil war. Syria? Tattered ruins post 2011 civil war that is still going on. Who is coming to help them? Iran? They're lucky if the US doesn't invade them in the coming months for aiding Russia in Ukraine along with aiding Hamas.
Did they expect to lose and incite Israeli wrath upon Gaza, thus drawing sympathy from the rest of the world when Israel inevitably starts obliterating Palestinians indiscriminately?
Did they expect to win and...?? Kill all Israelis in Israel for Palestine in a genocide? While the world just watches?
Was it just senseless violence bubbling over from consistent pressure from Israeli settlers encroaching on Palestine and the pot had to boil over eventually?
What was the fucking end goal here?
I'm infamously thr guy who said in February of last year that Russia invading Ukraine would turn into a disastrous, prolonged, bogged in the mud clusterfuck, and that's why Russia surely wouldn't be dumb enough to invade. So take my analysis on this stuff with a grain of salt.
I'm also not the chief grand high amateur historian when it comes to Israeli-Palestine relations, past the obvious factor of the IDF and Hamas killing more of each others' civilians than each other's fighters whenever the chance arises.
But my slightly more than a stab in the dark breakdown would be that at some point Hamas key figures got together wanting to stage a mass raid and hostage-taking, on the theory that this would prevent immediate massive armed retribution while making headlines, and they'd be recording videos talking about Israeli oppression with a bunch of hostages looking scared in the background, yadda yadda. But then someone conflated this with the fact that they were due for another rocket attack that they do to justify themselves to their Iranian (and other) benefactors and keep the flow of cash coming in. And terrorist organizations tend to be decentralized and full of a lot of fanatics with something to prove, so it kind of just snowballed into everyone rushing in in a big, ill-considered assault.
I will say, though, I thought we were all on the same page of "Hey, Hamas is also doing bad shit". Like regardless of whether you think Israel should exist or not or if you're a diehard for Palestinian liberation, I thought there was consensus that Hamas murdering and brutalizing civilians was agreed to be a bad thing and the only innocents in this war are the noncombatants caught in the crossfire. Then I started seeing people like that sapper in the wire freak talking about 'how dare you condem Palestinians for lashing out at oppression and parading bodies in the street' and basically saying Hamas were righteous heroes for fighting Israel. And then I remembered, oh yeah, people have Marvelbrain and if someone's the decided (in their minds) 'bad guy'then the other guys must be white knight irreproachable heroes and this mindset will reinforce itself until, to use a parallel example, west has fallen save traditional values type weirdos are cheering Wagner castrating prople with boltcutters on camera. So that was a fun little reminder.

thinkn abt a post tumblr recommended to me that was like 4 paragraphs of one of those tumblr users that make being jewish their entire personality, talking about how they're pro-palestine "but" that it's so mean of people to excuse hamas and how hamas is evil etc etc
i swear to god every one of the people sayin shit like that. are so fucking stupid. i know they know no one is saying hamas is good but they know how evil it is to side with an apartheid state so they pretend like they're not supporting israel and are just 'upset' about "hamas supporters" that don't actually exist
same people are so quick to reblog shit about the IRA and black panthers were freedom fighters and how the cartels south of the US and the taliban only exist directly because of US colonialism, but suddenly when Palestine is the discussion they wanna cry about the violence Hamas causes
there's nothing wrong with whoever you are but i swear to god i have never trusted those tumblr blogs that make being jewish their entire personality. you know the ones. star of david avatar (usually over an LGBT background), username relates to how they're jewish, and constantly writing essays about random innocuous shit like walmart gnome decorations all being antisemitic. as trustworthy as the fuckn christian cottagecore tumblrs

>Considering that Mexico is an increasingly lawless shithole run by the Narco cartels and on the verge of becoming a failed state? Abso-fucking-lutely. ...So fuck you, and fuck your righteous thoughts and saintly intentions.|| The worry from my family is paramilitary groups being formed down there and subsequently waging guerrilla war against the USA ala Palestine's Hamas. Or disillusioned Mexicans assisting in sneaking (nuclear/chemical/biological) ordnance across the border.
Wow, that’d be terrible. So what if - now stop me if you’ve heard this before, but - what if we built a big wall along the border so said paramilitaries and/or disgruntled Mexicans couldn’t sneak into the United States to cause havoc?
I mean, you tell me - what seems more likely and/or doable?
1. Nation-build Mexico into a prosperous first-world nation (because we did such a bang-up job of that in the Philippines, Iraq, and everywhere else we’ve been!)
2. Build a wall and guard our own border.

http://twitter.com/#!/LorelaiJones/status/515517921129689088
#TheDailyShowGoneTooFar is trending #1 in the U.S. at the moment:
What’s that all about?
In a segment on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” a joke was made about the formation of a “new” terrorist group. Below is the video and a partial transcript of the part that’s sparking anger among 1D fans:
“As you were talking a new terrorist group just formed, with one member each from ISIS, al-Nusra, al-Qaeda, Hamas, One Direction and the Zetas drug cartel.”
One Direction’s Zayn Malik was raised a Muslim, according to the Washington Post, and apparently many assumed that “The Daily Show” joke was in reference to him.
Here’s just a sampling of the upset:
#TheDailyShowGoneTooFar https://t.co/PNKm05t0oO They called Zayn a terrorist because of his ethnicity last time I checked, that's racism!

Did A Vice Editor Recruit Interns as Drug Mules?
According to Canada’s National Post, a former editor with Vice Media used his position at the high-octane media outlet to recruit young journalists and artists into a “transnational cocaine-smuggling ring.”
Current and former Vice employees alleged to the Post that 26-year-old Yaroslav Pastukhov, a.k.a. Slava Pastuk, personally tried to recruit them as drug couriers during his time as music editor for Noisey, offering a fee of $10,000 to smuggle cocaine hidden in the lining of suitcases. They all said they declined the offer.
Pastukhov’s one-time roommate, an up-and-coming DJ and electronic music artist named Jordan Gardner, was arrested along with four others on Dec. 22, 2015 in Sydney, Australia when cocaine valued at approximately 5 million US dollars was discovered in luggage belonging to the group. Gardner’s lawyer, friends and family all claim that he says Pastukhov badgered him into making the trip, and that when he and some of his travel companions tried to back out of the deal in Las Vegas, they were threatened with a gun. Gardner is currently in an Australian prison awaiting sentencing for what the Australian Federal Police describe as the work of a “transnational crime syndicate.”
In an interview with the Post, Gardner’s lawyer, Eidan Havas, claimed Pastukhov is part of a massive scheme headed by a Mexican drug cartel. “They’re finding young Canadians, or young individuals who for all intents and purposes don’t have any criminal histories and are productive members of their community, and manipulating them into making the wrong choice,” he added. “They got [Gardner] to a situation where they pulled a gun to his head, they knew where his family lived. The family received death threats. They put him in a position where he couldn’t return.”
According a friend of Gardner’s, the night before he left Toronto for Las Vegas he told her he had cold feet about the trip, but didn’t feel safe backing out because he had been warned that “something could happen to” his loved ones if he didn’t go through with it. Gardner arrived in Las Vegas in December 2015, where, Havas told the Post, he picked up the suitcases to take to Australia. Hamas said, “[Gardner was] told certain things about the packaging and how it’s tamper-proof and this and that. So then Jordan gets the bags and the first thing, he tells me, is you can literally smell the glue from the bag”—meaning the alterations to the luggage to conceal the cocaine were obvious.
Hamas continued: “And [Gardner’s] just like, ‘You guys are a bunch of liars, this isn’t what I was told. I don’t want to do this any more.’ At that stage, one of the men pulled out a gun, held it to his head and said words to the effect of, ‘If you don’t do this, we’re gonna get your girlfriend and your parents, we know where they live.’”
On Dec. 22, Gardner and the four others he was traveling with landed in Sydney. A search of their luggage by border control revealed 37 kilograms of cocaine in 81 tightly sealed packages hidden in the lining of eight checked bags, according to police.
Gardner and Nathanial Carty, a 22-year-old New York-based model, were immediately charged with importing a commercial quantity of cocaine. That afternoon, their traveling companions—Canadians Porscha Wade, 20, Robert Wang, 24, and Kutiba Senusi, 23—were also charged. All but Wade pleaded guilty. Her trial is set for September 2017.
When news of the arrests reached Toronto, several young Vice journalists say they realized they had been targeted for recruitment as possible couriers. Each told the Post the approach came from Pastukhov. Many of them asked that their names not be published because of “a fear of repercussions from friends and former colleagues and a negative impact on their career.”
The allegations in the National Post article have not been proven in court, and no criminal charges have been pressed against Pastukhov. However, Vice Canada ended its relationship with him last year after concerns were raised with management about some of his actions. Jordan Pearson, who currently writes for Vice’s tech site Motherboard, and Matt Braga, a former Vice Canada editor, both told the Canadian newspaper that they had heard staff members discussing Pastukhov’s alleged drug-running and recruitment efforts. When contacted for comment by the Post, Pastukhov repeatedly declined to address the allegations.
Gardner and his co-accused await sentencing in Australia, set for this week. The maximum penalty for smuggling a commercial quantity of cocaine into Australia is life imprisonment.
Havas said Gardner wants to help others avoid the same fate: “I don’t fucking bullshit: these guys do not deserve what’s about to happen to them. He wants other people to know that he made a mistake and do not make the same mistake he made.
“He’s thrown away a large portion of his life. He’s been in jail while his album has been released, by Èbony. All these opportunities have gone to waste,” said Havas, adding: “Go buy the rap album.”
For the full story, go to the National Post.
