#elli rambles #I found a dutch mode for the tengwar online yesterday and so I wrote my brother a short message to decipher with it just now #bc we don’t have dental fricatives in dutch (either voiced or unvoiced) the creator of that mode chose to use the tengwar usually used for #those sounds for the s and z #which makes sense but since there already are two additional tengwar for each of those sounds (in the english modes at least) there are. #three different letters for each of those sounds lmao #which is like irrationally funny to me #the only gripes I have with the mode is the proposed use of the long carrier + the low dot tehta (usually for the schwa) #instead of just using the ‘e’ tehta above the úre (used here for combined vowels ending in u) #and the absence of a tengwa for the /g/ in english loan words #like yeah it doesn’t occur in words of dutch origin but neither do the /ʤ/ or /ʒ/ and there *are* tengwar for that in the mode… #so I’m just using the ungwe for that #tag game #romana tag #oh ​plus I’ve decided to use both the rómen and the óre for the r #óre for when I pronounce it /ɹ/ and rómen when I pronounce it /ʀ/ #bc I use the gooise r lol
