Frustrated by endless wait times for out of stock uniforms, police in the southern German state of Bavaria have taken an unusual step to draw attention to their plight.

In a video released on YouTube and Instagram by the state chapter of the German Police Union (DPolG), two officers seated in a police cruiser ask one another, "How long have you been waiting?" replying four and six months respectively, before exiting their BMW to reveal that they are pantless.

Jürgen Köhnlein, chairman of the Bavarian DPolG then addresses the problem head on, saying that what seems like a bad April Fool's joke is anything but, and nothing to laugh about, equating a chronic shortage of uniforms with lack of respect for officers.

"Bavaria's police are 'stripping bare' and could literally be left standing without trousers," says Köhlein, who highlights the fact that wait times for as many as 21 different uniform items — such as caps, jackets and pants — can take months if they are available at all.

The union is calling on the state Interior Ministry to rectify the problem immediately even if that means additional costs, noting that, "Since 2020, we have hardly been talking about shortcomings in the quality of uniforms, but rather a shortage in the availability of uniforms."

Interior Ministry acknowledges problem, says fix is coming

An Interior Ministry spokesperson on Wednesday acknowledged the problem, pointing to supply chain disruptions. "The supply bottlenecks for uniform parts are a major annoyance for us."

State officials say they will now take over delivery logistics themselves after procurement had been outsourced. Supply bottlenecks, said the Interior Ministry, had affected specialty trousers such as multi-purpose summer pants in particular.

Interior Ministry representatives pointed to the coronavirus pandemic and the war in Ukraine as further factors negatively impacting supply and delivery and claimed that a new logistics center would be operational in Bavaria by 2030, making the force less dependent on outside procurers.   

Despite the problem, the Ministry said State Police are in no way being kept from carrying out their duties, adding that other uniform elements could be used when specific pieces were unavailable.

Union Chairman Jürgen Köhnlein was less nonchalant, saying, "Right now it remains unclear whether the situation will improve or continue to deteriorate," asking, "What impression must new recruits get when they are forced to complete their training in 'civilian clothing' rather than being provided with a uniform."

So, to today. We walked into town seeing the Brits go through the lock.

We went to our artisan restaurant. When we got there the place was empty, except for a couple of house cats.

It was a bit bizarre, it was like being in someone’s front room!

There was a choice of 2 starters and 2 main courses. The food was excellent and very good value.

The afternoon was mainly filled with doing the laundry. There was a bank of washing machines in a petrol station only 5 minutes walk from the boat.

There was a yacht, a Bavaria Cruiser 37 with a British flag at the end of the pontoon. Owned by Steve & Gail. They choose to moor their yacht in Folleux (down river) as it massively cheaper than mooring in the UK. They came on board this evening for a drink.

They stayed a while, we had a bit of food and just a couple of glasses of wine. We’re best friends now! We might move on tomorrow. We need to find somewhere where there is decent Wi-Fi so we can watch the coronation.

Salone Nautico di Venezia 2023

Venezia sarà ancora una volta la protagonista della grande nautica dal 31 maggio al 4 giugno con la quarta edizione del Salone Nautico, che si terrà nello storico Arsenale, cuore della marineria della Serenissima. Quest’anno la novità per i visitatori del Salone arriva dal comparto della vela che diventa protagonista assoluto del pontile P3 con 30 imbarcazioni dai 10 ai 30 metri, come parte  una nuova esigenza, quella dell’andar per mare sostenibile, che ha  un significativo incremento rispetto all’edizione del 2022.  Sulle acque della Darsena grande ci sarà la più rappresentativa delle barche realizzate da un cantiere storico lo Swan 65, costruito in Finlandia dal cantiere Nautor Swan su progetto dell’argentino German Frers, autore di tante barche bellissime e da decenni designer principale del cantiere nordico, inoltre sarà ormeggiato uno dei monumenti della vela come  lo Swan 48, disegnato negli anni Settanta  da Sparkman & Stephens. Un’altra barca importante presente al Salone Nautico sarà  l’ex Chrisco ora Whimsea, costruito nel 2009 da CNB e progettato in Italia da Luca Brenta & C, che ha segnato un momento importante dello yachting. Dal freddo nord arriva la svedese Hallberg Rassy 50, destinata alle navigazioni d’altura senza confini e al giro del mondo, con un pozzetto protetto e l’aspetto solido, che condivide con lo Swan 65 il progettista Frers. Sulle sponde dell’Adriatico sono nati diversi cantieri che sono anche protagonisti del Made in Italy, infatti ad Aquileia è nato 50 anni fa Solaris, con l’obiettivo di costruire barche di grande qualità con finiture e impianti di prestigio. A Venezia ci saranno il Solaris 50 e il Solaris 40,due scafi della performance cruiser, disegnati da Javier Soto Acebal e molto apprezzati dal pubblico. Fondato a Chioggia e con sede produttiva a Fano, il cantiere Italia Yachts presenterà il 9.98, barca da regata che vince molto e che per le sue dimensioni, al limite dei dieci metri, non necessita di immatricolazione, creato da Matteo Polli, un giovane molto sicuro quando c’è da cercare velocità. Dalla vicina Slovenia arrivano gli Elan E43 ed E6, per la cui realizzazione è intervenuto lo studio Pininfarina con Daniele Mazzon che è stato in grado di portare novità per un prodotto ben fatto e dalla Croazia arrivano i More 50 e 54, interessanti per abitabilità e prestazioni. Invece dalla Francia i maestri del rapporto prezzo-prestazione del gruppo Beneteau portano al Salone Nautico Oceanis 51.1,  che sfrutta al massimo ogni spazio, in termini di abitabilità, come i nuovi modelli di Bavaria, ossia il Bavaria Cruiser 46, il C48 e il C38, parte della serie disegnata dallo studio italiano Cossutti Yacht Design. Dall’Italia, e da Genova, arriva il Kufner 54, la più grande imbarcazione dopo il 50 e l’atteso 38, parte del cantiere dedicato alla costruzione di barche semi-custom, spesso ideate in sintonia con gli armatori. Torna Pegasus 50, già apprezzato lo scorso anno e con propulsione elettrica, e anche Escape 46, realizzata in alluminio in Italia, sostenibile per il materiale con cui è costruita e nata da un progetto di Marco Lostuzzi.
