Entered Peru at a small border post with premeditaded intentions to swindle the customs officials on giving us a 6 months stay. Which in the end didn't turned out that difficult to get. Lalibela Ethiopa hand carved rock churches. -Following on our last post, please allow us to share some photos of our route through Africa when we started our trip. 📍Most overland bikers very rarely go to see this amazing architecture in Ethiopia. And from all the old stuff to see in Africa including the pyramids these are pretty bloody amazing! These 11 churches have all been carved out of solid rock. On the 2nd photo Elsebie is looking up to the top of the same church as on the 1st picture. 🕍The Church of Saint George was carved from a type of volcanic tuff. This is the sole architectural material that was used in the structure. It has been dated to the late 12th or early 13th century AD. It is among the best known and last built of the eleven churches in the Lalibela area, and has been referred to as the "Eighth Wonder of the World". To start of this year, please allow us to share some photos of our route through Africa when we started our trip. We have spoken and heard of so many bike travellers skipping Africa due to safety concerns. Yes, Africa is not like other places but it is pricking, energetic and incredibly exhilarating travel. Hopping in and out of Morocco is not travelling Africa. Africa is truly like no other place and worth travelling. But also just for this month to look back at the stunning places Africa has to offer. 🤙🏻😁🌍🦓🐘🦏 📌About the photo: Situated some 20 miles west of the city of Lubango, is the Serra da Leba Pass, a national landmark in Angola. This breathtaking mountain road built in the 1970s, spirals down from the 'plano alto' (high plateau) elevation of 1845 meters to almost sea level in just over 10 kilometers; literally transversing 3 or 4 different climate zones during any ascent or descent. The most challenging part of the climb is a short section of 1.7km, with 7 hairpin turns. It’s one of the famous hairpinned roads in the world. Following on our last post, please allow us to share some photos of our route through Africa when we started our trip. Without a doubt Africa ain't the holiday type overlanding travel of South America or Asia, but there's it's more dangerous or unsafe. As with everything else common sense needs to prevail. Sure it's a bit more gritty and rough around the edges but that's all part of the experience in Africa. About the photo: Namibia -Orange dunes loom above 500-year-old camelthorn trees in Sossusvlei, while arid conditions on the Skeleton Coast have preserved the many ships wrecked on its shores. It's an incredibly big country with only about 2milj people. Namibia has one of the most beautiful deserts and landscapes in the world. It is possible to ride on dirt roads and never see a tar road on a trip through Namibia. Where do you shop for your bling? Just a suggestion, or tip. Obviously you do your homework on products via friends, forums and own experiencea, ect. As for products there's a wealth of information from some knowledgeable small dealers that has actually done travels themselves and has been around the block. The kind of people that has been there and done it and got the t-shirt. It is the kind of people that will give advice on products from using them and knowing what works and what not. Not the sales person who barely earns enough money from a big brand big shop selling all sorts of goodies and has never been out of town. Not that there aren't very knowledgeable salespeople working for big brands/dealers. It is the kind of dealers that has the interest of their customers in mind but also for their own business and brands they represent. Buying online is one thing. Going to such a dealer, having a valuable chat and fun and where you can actually touch see and feel products. And knowing that dealer has your back doesn't matter where in the world you go.
