Twenty Five Twenty One
— 2022
Here are some of my favorite scenes from this amazing K-drama 🥹💖
Tumblr media
“This summer belongs to us.” 😭
Tumblr media
I replayed this part so much! 😂 Yi-jin was so shocked and maybe asking himself “WHY AM I HERE?” 😂
Tumblr media
I can’t find a photo where Hee-do’s replaying Yi-jin’s voice message but man, I felt it the sadness. I feel like I’m also waiting for them. 🥺
Tumblr media
This fencing scene in the dark!! It started with Yi-jin being creepy with the banana milk then this. The support she needs and the motivation she gives her. Perfect combination 😭
Tumblr media
This was when Ji-woong asked Yi-jin for help with Yu-rim and he ended up singing with the band. He’s so dreamy with his guitar! 🥰 Then Hee-do asked if he can redo one of his voice tapes. Sometimes, we all need is a reminder that we can’t have it all figured out. We will mistakes and it’s okay as long as we gave our best. We will try again next time.
Tumblr media
Their first meeting after Yi-jin left 🥹
Tumblr media
#RainbowCouple but to him it’s love 😭💗💓💖
Tumblr media
Another plot twist that I didn’t expect! It just means that even the smartest, most prepared ones can break, too. But she bounced back that’s why I love Seung-hwan 🫰🏼
Tumblr media
Madrid 2001. Hee-do’s most memorable game. I love how they teased this part in the first part of the episode or the earlier one. I can watch this over and over again 😭
Tumblr media
And last but not the least, this scene on episode 2. I knew I would love this show because of this. “When it’s just the two of us, let’s be happy without anyone else knowing. It’s our little secret.” 🥹💗

T~T
New favorite k-drama, have now rewatched 4 times
Tumblr media
!Spoilers!
"Please give me the strength to not be emotionally exhausted"
"I'm alone on our anniversary again. But I'm fine. We understand each other."
"I can't tell since when, but you sound more genuine in your apologies than when you say you love me."
Her diary entries made me cry so hard T_T
The writing was so good, the characters felt so real ♡
They all went through the struggles of life and managed to keep their light
I really love sweet love stories with bittersweet endings. So sad though T-T
Na Hee-do was my fav, I related to her ♡
Tumblr media
I had such a crush on Baek Yi-jin, his growth and vulnerability were so powerful and endearing. His character arc made me feel all the feels
His quote, "I don't think not living your dream means you've failed at life and I don't think living your dreams means you've succeeded either." 💗
Ko Yu-rim really grew on me, her friendship with Hee-do was so sweet. ♡ Her arc broke my heart, so glad that she got a happy ending T~T
Hee-do and Yi-jin had such a well-written and well-portrayed relationship, the breakup didn't feel forced and their chemistry was so strong
So bittersweet, so heartbreaking, but glad to know they were still able to lead fulfilling lives
Just because their relationship was well-written doesn't mean I'm happy about how it ended though :P
But in all honesty I think it was the best ending the writers could have chosen 🥲 Such a beautiful story of summer and youth 💖

Beraber her zorluğun üstesinden gelebileceğimiz dostluklar.

2022 kdrama/movie roundup!
It was a tough year for keeping up with anything because life, toddler, etc, but here are the things I watched, in part or whole, that I remembered. Hot Takes Incoming!
Sell Your Haunted House - Jang Nara in boots. Kang Mal-geum in dark lipstick. Touching, gay, many mother issues. The girls were fantastic. The boys weren't bad.
25 21 - I was dropped back into the 90s. Surprisingly, I didn't hate it. The girls were fantastic. Na Hee-do was correct to dump Baek Yi-jin. Moon Ji-woong, perfect boy. Ji Seung-wan for PRESIDENT!
Why Her? - Someone thought it'd be a great idea to throw Seo Hyun-jin's ex-client (shudder) current-student (TRIPLE SHUDDER) Hwang In-yeop into the romance mix when billionaire CHOI YOUNG-JOON and Crown Prince Bae In-hyuk were already there. And they thought it'd be funny if Hwang In-yeop won. NO.
Eve - The superior commentary this year on the horrors of capitalism. It ends with reparations (Park Byung-eun hands over his entire empire to Seo Yeji, who promptly divests it), rich people dying in horrible ways and Seo Yeji doing the tango. Were the makjang knobs dialled up so high they're broken? Yes. Was it fun? YES, because I got to see Park Byung-eun's range, which includes Pained Hottie, and Seo Yeji running men's feet over in cars wearing couture. We can ask for no more.
Juvenile Justice - No one asked "What happens if we take three of the most charismatic working actors in Korean entertainment today and squeezed the life out of them?" But someone answered anyway.
My Liberation Notes - Lee El, a revelation. Mr Gu, a revelation when he started talking, and not the good kind.
Grid - Kim Mu-yeol. Kim Ah-joong and Jang So-yeon had a great year. I didn't understand the time thing at all. This is a me problem, but probably the only time I'll face it this year. Right? RIGHT?
Bloody Heart - Jang Hyuk has done nothing wrong, ever. The girls were fantastic. Lee Joon, I heard your script was meant for Lee Joon-hyuk. Sorry.
Pachinko - The girls were fantastic. Kim Min-ha, baby, you're gorgeous. JUNG EUN-CHAE was everything. Sorry to Lee Min-ho, who had the tough double role of acting as Ko Hansu and also like he belonged to this cast of greats.
Our Blues - Great acting, but my own blues were sufficient for me. The girls were fantastic. Unwanted to wanted pregnancy storyline: no thanks. This is a me problem, but probably the only time I'll face it this year. Right? RIGHT?
Extraordinary Attorney Woo - 75% love; 25% NOT THIS AGAIN.
Little Women - The girls were fantastic. I ran out of air by this point in the year. I'll come back for you, gothic interior design, poison orchids, and Song Joong-ki in the best role he's played all year!
Through the Darkness - Almost too many twirling moustache psychos and dead girls. I did it for Kim Nam-gil because he's so pretty in this and in case it wasn't abundantly clear by now, I don't think with my brain. The lone living girl - Kim So-jin - was fantastic. Jin Seon-kyu, well-adjusted stealth hottie!
Reborn Rich - Samsung owes Lee Sung-min its entire semiconductor business as @rain-hat said. Lee Sung-min owes me reparations for making me watch this show for him primarily (secondarily Park Hyuk-kwon, Kim Shin-rok, Park Ji-hyun and Kim Nam-hee for their acting; Kim Young-jae because he is THE DILF). I'm manifesting NO TIMESLIPS in 2023 dramas.
Under the Queen's Umbrella - Kim Hye-soo pushing up her hanbok sleeves to carry babies and do embroidery should be projected onto my tombstone unto eternity. The girls were fantastic. And I know this is unusual, so bear with me, but: the boys? FANTASTIC ALSO.
Movies:
Vikram - Fahaadh Faasil, my thoughts are nasty and you don't want to hear them. The girls might have been fantastic had they been permitted to live and not be dumdums. That was never going to happen, of course. There was torture and a baby in significant peril, but it was also the most fun I'd had in a while. I should get my head checked.
Ponniyin Selvan - The sheer scale of work and sweat that has gone into the enterprise of making Vikram seem taller than Trisha Krishnan for the last twenty years! Iconic. The girls were fantastic.
The Naked Kitchen - This is sold as a story of a woman choosing between two men. That is a lie. It's about a man coming to terms with his marriage drifting into polyamory, and enjoying it. Shin Min-ah and Ju Ji-hoon fuck in a museum, which was also weirdly sweet.
Asura City of Madness - AHJUSSHIS WHY. Hwang Jung-min's shirttails worked very hard in 2012. Jung Woo-sung ate glass and has pathological issues about being as handsome as he is. We love him for it. We did not love this.
Hunt - Love is your bestie learning how to write and direct just to write and direct you in the role of a lifetime for you, personally. I don't know if that's what happened here, but that's what love is. And chemistry is whatever these two guys have in this completely ordinary movie that did not give any feelings. Hwang Jung-min, pussy OUT.
Decision to Leave - A well-deserved love letter to Tang Wei, just beautifully shot, gorgeous.
Il Mare - Absolutely lovely little film, reliant almost entirely on the star power of two actors who are so charismatic they don't need to meet in the movie to convince you of their romance.
Laal Singh Chaddha - There was a very beautiful wedding at the end. Aamir Khan's face must hurt.
Darlings - A movie that appreciated and respected noted hottie Shefali Shah.

ok so rant: i was thinking about kdramas in class as one does. specifically this one scene in 25 21 when moon ji woong calls out to baek yi jin. the subtitles just said “yi jin”. and since i don’t speak korean i mostly focus on the subtitles and listen to the words. but when i paid closer attention he was saying “hyung” which is something you call a close older male friend i’m pretty sure almost like brother. even by changing it to his name the subtitles are removing the element of intimacy and basically changing the relationship between the characters. similarly i read this post about extraordinary attorney woo where it was talking about that one specific dialogue where lee jun ho compares his relationship with woo to a cat and owner relationship. first i was like hm weird owner of a cat not the most romantic analogy. but the post was like how in korea people refer to their cat as their master instead the other way around. and it pains me that i will never be able to understand these stories down to their core. how much am i missing?
tldr: this tumblr user wishes she spoke every language and knew about every culture intimately.

Twenty Five Twenty One
— 2022
Tumblr media
Cast:
Kim Tae-ri as Na Hee-do
Nam Joo-hyuk as Baek Yi-jin
Bona as Ko Yu-rim
Choi Hyun-wook as Moon Ji-woong
Lee Joo-myung as Ji Seung-hwan
⚠️WARNING:
This is gonna be a very looooooong post. ✌️🏼
First all, I’m torn between 2 show posters, one with Hee-do and Yi-Jin and this but I chose the one with the whole squad on it because I FREAKN LOVE THEM!!! 😭💖
Tumblr media
Let me just start by saying.. this is one of my top K-drama favorites! No doubt! 😭🤩💖 Like, when I’m watching it, there’s no dull moment. I also had flashbacks of what I felt when I watched Weightlifting Fairy and Hometown Chachacha that’s why for me, this K-drama is a mix of the 2. I just had fun watching it. Of course, I cried in some parts, especially the last episode but I still love the show. 1000000x/10! It's something that I needed. A comfort show. I felt healed from the inside. 🫶🏼
So here are some of the things that I love about this K-drama:
1. The technique and storyline:
I’m not a scriptwriter or film creator to talk about techniques and stuff, I just love K-dramas and this is my way of letting out all my thoughts. About the show, I just like how the story started in the year of Covid, which feels like a decade now, because it mirrors what is currently happening. We can all relate to wearing face masks outside our homes, the Covid protocols, 6ft apart, hand sanitizers, and all that stuff that became part of our everyday lives. Due to the pandemic, we were all forced to stay at home, keep our distance from our friends and loved ones, or just stop our daily lives in general. And because of that, we tend to look back on our past and daydream about it, of how life was during the earlier years, our friends back then, our first loves. EVERYTHING. That’s what I love about this K-drama. It brought me back to my high school and college years when all I do is have fun with my friends, experience love and heartbreak for the first time, find out who I really am and what my dreams are. It’s so relatable because let’s be honest, sometimes we still think of the “what could’ve beens” and the “what ifs” in our lives.
For the storyline, I’m not gonna go in depth because I want you to watch it if you haven’t already!! 🤩
So it’s about fencing which honestly, is something that I know nothing about. I watch the show since it’s Nam Joo-hyuk’s y’all! 🤭 And I got instantly hooked just from the first episode. The story revolves around these 5 people with different stories but still connected. It tackles a lot of issues that all of us can relate to, especially in our early years when we’re still trying to figure out what it is that we want in life.
Tumblr media
Another main point in this show is broadcasting. The process of getting a news report and the effects of it on the reporter’s personal life. In times like that, it’s safest to keep a distance.
2. The characters:
I love the whole cast, seriously!!! From the squad to coach Chan-mi 🥹😭 and also I love that the characters were not just tied to their partners. There are also other friendships that I really adore.
• Hee-do and Yu-rim
Okay, so this is actually where it all started. Hee-do admires Yu-rim so much that it’s her dream to be her rival. She transferred to her school when a crisis came and joined the fencing team with her. At first, Yu-rim hated her and everything she does even just her existence until that moment with a yellow flower. You guys know what I mean!! 🤭 Since then, they became really good friends and I love their friendship. They’re so supportive of each other and the game in Madrid is my favorite! I was a little confused at the beginning when Hee-do avoided Yu-rim but her reason is understandable. And also that part when Hee-do announced her retirement and Yu-rim came to support her. It’s so heartwarming. ‪🥹
Tumblr media
• Seung-hwan and Ji-woong
I also love these 2 so much!! I’ve always wanted to have a guy best friend, as in pure friendship with a guy but I can’t coz I always fall in love with them HAHAHA but yeah, I don’t have one and I envy this friendship so much. They’ve been childhood friends and their closeness was misunderstood at first but it didn't change anything even when Ji-woong started expressing his feelings towards Yu-rim and eventually asked her to go out with him, their friendship stayed the same and Seung-hwan and Yu-rim became friends, too. I also admire Seung-hwan when she spoke up for Ji-woong during that incident with their teacher. She stood up for what she believed in even if it costs her dreams. She remained a true friend and it’s something that we all need.
Tumblr media
• Ji-woong and Yu-rim
Ahhhh these 2!! 🥹 l didn’t expect to love this couple. It’s that relationship we all want. The one that never gives up even when it’s hard and complicated and Ji-woong really showed maturity and just how much she loves Yu-rim. That scene in the airport? It’s my favorite. Long-distance relationships aren’t easy but anything is possible as long as you both love each other and want to make it wor. Plus that proposal! Ji-woong is the dream. So cute 💓
Tumblr media
• Jae-kyung and Coach Chan-mi
This is another friendship that we saw in the show. Something that we can all experience and has experienced especially when we get older and life just hits us. Their storyline is also an important part of the show. They started as really good friends when Jae-kyung is just starting in broadcasting and Chan-mi’s already well-known in the fencing world. Then an issue came out about Chan-mi accepting bribes from parents and Jae-kyung reported it on national tv. Then their friendship started to fall apart until it can’t be saved anymore. It was about pursuing your dreams or keeping your relationships. That’s why one rule in the broadcasting world is to keep Your distance. Something that Jae-kyung’s been telling Hee-do and Yi-jin.
Tumblr media
• Yi-jin and Hee-do
I have to save these 2 for last 🥹 Let me start with Nam Joo-hyuk. Well, I watched this show because of him. For me, it’s another Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo which is another favorite of mine! 💓😭 And it’s my first time watching Kim Tae-ri and first episode in, I fell in love with her character!! Na Hee-do is just so fun to watch. The way she talks and her obsession with Yu-rim and Full House are just so funny and adorable! Not only her fun and lively character that I love about her but also her drive and determination to pursue fencing even if others including her own mom don’t believe in her potential. She worked so hard to be one of the best fencers and she succeeded despite all the challenges she faced. Just like Hee-do, Baek Yi-jin also faced a lot of hardships and criticisms due to his family’s bankruptcy. They needed to go separate ways and live on their own that’s why he ended up staying in Seung-hwan’s spare room and working in that bookstore where Hee-do is a regular customer. He works so hard, goes to job interviews just to fail, but it didn’t stop him to try his best. Then he met Hee-do and her resiliency and determination became his inspiration to go on. I remember when he told her, “You have a knack for leading me to a good place.” since then, he slowly worked his way up until he got a job at the broadcasting company. But we all know that it’s not always rainbows and butterflies (cue She Will Be Loved🎶), along the way their relationship faced a lot of challenges, starting with the controversy of Hee-do’s first gold medal and when Yi-jin flew to New York to cover a huge news report. They tried but it didn’t work and just ended it.
Tumblr media
• The squad
Their friendship is just something we all want to have. They complement each other. Yi-jin’s maturiy fits perfectly to the fun, happy-the go-lucky personality of the 4. That summer is just so memorable. It’s their summer that’s why I can’t help but cry when adult Hee-do looked back and said, “Nothing lasts forever. Everything is momentary. They all flow away. And that’s not always a bad thing.”. This is true so we should cherish every single moment with our loved ones because we don’t know where life takes us.
Tumblr media
3. The ending:
I actually would love it if they ended up together but some stories won't reach that. Sometimes, we just meet people to teach us a lesson and I think they met because they need each other to grow and figure out what they want in life. I love that they had closure, tho it happened for Hee-do after 13 years when the bookstore owner gave the diary to Min-Chae, but at least they knew what was in each other’s hearts. Sometimes, that’s all we need. A period. A “The End” in every story or chapter in our lives so we could move on and start anew.
Tumblr media
I think I’ve said a lot but it’s not enough. I just love this K-drama so much that I can’t help but feel sad that it’s over. Yes, I know I can still rewatch it but it’s not the same and I can’t do it now since I have a long list of K-dramas to watch. I need to keep up!! 😅
That’s all! Happy watching for those who haven’t yet and sorry I spoiled a lot of important parts HAHAHAHA I need to rant here, I don’t have friends 😂
Story: 🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬
Enjoyment: 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 x1000000000000000
Will watch it again? YAAAAAAAAAS!!!

Tumblr media
This is not a drama I would usually choose to watch, but I kept seeing it all over my dash and decided to give it a try. Worth it!
I saw someone compare it to a Ghibli movie, and I can only agree. I'm not sure if I can really explain how it feels to watch this, but I'll give it a go: it feels like a summer vacation where you've just been outside in the sun all day, then coming in and getting comfortable on the bed with your fave book. You don't have to worry about anything, you have no deadlines, no expectations, you are free to do whatever you want. Getting completely lost in a story without a care in the world. Being young and free with the whole world in front of you, endless possibilities.
I loved all the main characters so so much. Na Hee-do shows that if you dream big, you have to put in the work to get there. No matter what you want, as long as you keep doing your best and strive to become better, you can do anything you set your mind to. Baek Yi-jin proves that even if you get knocked down, you can get back up again (this is also me ignoring how they handled his character in the last couple of episodes cause... yeah, not a fan). The world can be cruel and unforgiving, but that doesn't mean you can't find happiness.
The chemistry between these two characters is phenomenal! I rooted for their friendship a lot more than the romance, but overall I just loved them together.
Overall, what I most loved about this drama, was the friend group as a whole. They are all just teenagers being teenagers - awkward and cringy, hopeful of a better future in a world they have just started navigating on their own. I adore their friendships all around and love how supportive they are of each other throughout it all.
I think the only reason why I haven't given it 5 stars is because I don't see myself going back to re-watch it. Yes, I loved it a lot, but it still isn't a genre that usually catches my attention, so once is enough for me.
Still an absolutely amazing drama, though! Highly recommended watch!
