Basant Nayak
Sponsor and director of Oriya fiction Basant Nayak was a well-known Oriya cine director, distributor and sponsor. Lifetime-- Basant Nayak was born on January 16, 1937 in Haripur (Cuttack) in Cuttack district of Odisha. He started working in Mumbai as a textile engineer. However, he returned to Odisha in 1959 to give a new look to the world of Oriya cinema. On his way back from Cuttack to Mumbai, director Vijay Nayak guided him to the cinema. For the first time, he was in charge of distributing popular Oriya movies. He has made about 20 movies. His first film was directed by Nagfash in 1977. He then started his own charity, Brajraj Movies. He has made many films as a successful film director. In addition to being a sponsor and director, he was also a well-known film distributor. He distributed nearly 500 Oriya, Hindi and Bengali movies under the banner of Brajraj Movies. He has been instrumental in bringing well-known actors and actresses like Vijay Mohanty, Malvika Roy, Anubhav Mohanty, Babusan to the film world. Rakhi Gulzar, Mithun Chakraborty, Sujit Kumar, Aruna Irani, Gufi Pental, Prasenjit, Debarshi Rai Shatabdi Rai and many other well-known Bollywood and Bengali cine actors and actresses were brought into Oriya cinema which was new to an Oriya director.
His last rites were performed at Swargadwar in Puri.

Veteran Ollywood actress Aparajita Mohanty received 14th Swadist Bioscope Award for her contribution to Odia film industry for the past 35 years. The award was presented by Home Video Entertainment at Saheed Bhawan, Cuttack, during a function on Sunday evening. Aparajita was awarded a silver bioscope and a cheque of Rs 25,000 during the programme attended by English Professor Smita Devi, who is also her sibling, as the chief guest.
