SG Tarantulas should be blue or yellow/orange. Some possibilities;
Cyriopagopys lividus
Chilobrachys sp. (i don't know what sp stands for)
Lampropelma violaceopes
Monocentropus balfouri
Avicularia geroldi
Poecilotheria metallica
Pterinopelma sazimai
Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens
Haplopelma lividum
Avicularia avicularia
Pterinochilus murinus
Chilobrachys natanicharum
Harpactira pulchripes
Haploclastus Devamatha
Dolichothele Diamantinensis
Omothymus violaceopes
Avicularia minatrix
(Baseline Tarantulas would propably be Heteroscodra maculata or peacock. Also of note is that Tarantulas spins webs, which at least 3 of these do. Certainly more, but i've only checked 4)
I personally do not feel like the creators of Beast Wars put this much thought into it, but these are all lovely options

Baby’s first tarantula!
Presumed (by me) male A. Avicularia, just about 3 inches in leg span. Can’t wait to see him grow!
I need to find him a good cork bark or something to web up but otherwise am happy with his tank.

So, I have new spiders!
I bought a sub-adult Avicularia Avicularia from the spider shop along with their 10 sling lucky dip
1) Aphonopelma Anax - Texas Tan (I lost my aphonopelma hentzi recently, and while I'd still like to try again, this is a nice substitute)
2) Aphonopelma Seemani - Stripe Knee (my first one, surprisingly. I've loved the look on them, but I've been holding off for some reason, well, until now)
3) Holothele Longipes - Dwarf Pink/Colombian Blue Leg (this will be my second one)
4) Kochiana Brunnipes - Pink Leg (another duplicate in my collection)
5) Lasiodoa Parahybana - Salmon Pink Bird Eater (I wasn't going to get this because they can get up to 10", but this tiny sling has a lot of growing to do until then)
6) Nhandu Tripepii - Brazilian Blond (I lost my original one of these little guys and was really upset, so I'm happy to have another)
7) Pseudoclamoris Gigas - Orange Tree Spider (my notes in my tarantula spreadsheet for this guy read 'fast, so fast, too fast' which is why I never got one... guess I'm going to have to keep a careful eye when I feed them)
8) Pterniopelma Sazimai - Iridescent Blue/Sazimai's Tarantula (one that I was keeping until I got a little more experience under my belt, but had been considering lately - I love blue spiders)
9) Tliltocatl Vagans - Mexican Red Rump (score, I've been waiting to get one of these for a while, just wasn't sure if I'd get a juvie or a sling)
10) an 'Angustum' type, the vial says 'S', which would be a 'Sericopelma', but this is more likely to be Tliltocatl Angustum, another duplicate but one I don't mind
Not bad! And some of them I wouldn't have chosen on my own, so that's cool.I did ask for no OW species, I’m definitely not there yet.
In other bug news, I'm looking at some praying mantids: Hierodula membranacea - Giant Asian Mantis, phyllocrania paradoxa - ghost mantis, and my most wanted, a miomantis paykullii - the egyptian praying mantis. I'd love a straw coloured one, but I'm not that fussy. The only thing is they're really hard to find here, especially at the moment.
I spent too long considering the Fufius sp 'Rurrenabaque', or Gold Wafer-Lid Trapdoor Spider and now they're sold out, so I'm going to have to wait for them to come around again.
I also want to get a jumping spider, ideally Phidippus Regius Isla Juventus.
I'm mostly holding off on all of the above because I'm going to need to handle flightless fruit flies for the first time and I'm not in a place to deal with a new learning curve at the moment - heatwaves plus a change of migraine treatment and an overwhelming constant giddiness is making everything hard.
I'll get there eventually, especially when I get my dart frogs set up, and I think they'll be helpful for supplementing sling diets, but until then...
I'm also considering getting into beetles. I'm interested in flower beetles and rainbow staghorns, and I'm also casting an eye over therea olegrandjeani, the question mark cockroach.

What type of spider would be your spidersona? What types of spiders do you see in your moots?
AHHH I'VE ACTUALLY THOUGHT ABOUT THIS!!
If I had a spidersona I think I'd want to be an Argiope aurantia, just a lil guy with a sun hat waterin' their crops and flowers. I'm hoping to get one tattooed on my leg soon with some sunflowers.
For my moots? That's a tough one. I'm not going to tag any of them, if they see it they see it. don't want to bother anyone I also don't know if I can do a spider match for all of them but these are off the top of my head.
I think I told Shino a while back that they would be an Avicularia purpurea, those are a really pretty purple. That's what Hocus Pocus is actually!
Habibi is a trapdoor spider. Sometimes I forget it's following me and then suddenly I see a little notification in my activity that it liked one (1) post. Sneak attack always in the safety of my own blog.
I wanna give Zee a pink tarantula, maybe like Pamphobetus platyomma or something like that. I had to look up the scientific name for that one but it's called a pink bloom tarantula.
I want Pepi to be a jumping spider, doesn't matter what kind they're all cute.
Sky would be a velvet spider, a cute goth spood for a cute goth moot <3

Would you mind sharing pics of your spiders? I’d love to see them
Omg you have just made me so happy Nonny! I am literally such a simp for my pets, but most people I know don't want to see/hear about them. And honestly, I understand, a lot of people are afraid of spiders.
I don't have pictures of all of them right now, but I do have a few I can share! <3
WARNING PICTURES OF TARANTULAS UNDER THE CUT!
Tumblr media
This is my C. cyaneopubescens (greenbottle blue) 'Weaver". It's still a baby, though this is from a few molts ago so it's bigger now. They start off that cute black and orange then change to a metallic blue/green with a red booty as they grow up.
-
Tumblr media
My B. Boehmei "Chili" right after her last molt (was able to confirm she is female with that last molt, very excited!) I wish the lighting could have done her justice for how bright her reds were right after that molt, she was so pretty!
-
Tumblr media
My Aphonopelma Chalcodes "Boots with the Fur", desperately in need of a molt. She kicks all her hair off anytime I try to offer her a different food item besides crickets 😑
-
Tumblr media
My Y. Diversipes "Spinner". Once again my inability to take good pictures doesn't do this spider any justice. It's hard to tell but it is a really pretty gold/pink/green color.
-
Tumblr media
This is my Avicularia Minatrix "Stitch" right after I rehomed it into its current enclosure (I had to get a picture of it with the tiny scrap of embroidery floss stuck to its little paw, I had no idea how that got in there!) It's a couple molts bigger and redder than this picture today.
-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And finally a glow-up of my C. Versicolor "Bobbin" from how small it was when I first got it about 6 months ago to today! <3
-
The rest of the collection that I don't have pictures of yet:
P. murinus (OBT) named "Karen" (she wants to talk to your manager)
P. cambridgei (no name yet)
N. incei (no name yet)
Phormictopus sp south hispaniola (no name yet)

AAA THERE'S A REPTILE EXPO ON THE 17TH!
If I play my cards right I can probably go. Bills and the like come first obviously XD
There's two species of tarantula i'd love to find if I can.
Tumblr media
The Green Bottle Blue tarantula (Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens)
anddddd
Tumblr media
Antilles Pinktoe Tarantula (Avicularia Versicolor) Note, that the babies are bright blue!!!
They are absolutely STUNNING. I will need to get them as slings, and as luck has it I have two arboreal sling enclosures :3 GBB are semi-arboreal so their enclosure would need to be a little different.
Other than that, I'll be looking for more millipedes to give Ripley and Buu some more friends, as Millies are communal. That and buying more substrate and cork bark and looking for more isopods. I have room for two more isopod colonies and that's it XD

It’s been FOREVER since I’ve been able to get a good picture of Stella! She’s an arboreal spide, so she spends like 304% of her time up in her very extensive web (which she decorates with dirt.) Today she decided she was extra hungry and came down from on high to grace me with her adorable face. <3
Stella is an Avicularia purpurea. (Purple pinktoe tarantula)

The Avicularia minatrix, known commonly as the Redstripe Pinktoe, Venezualen Red Stripe and Red Slate Pinktoe Tarantula, is one of my FAVORITE dwarf species! This New World arboreal tarantnula is one of the smallest and most reclusive species in the hobby, except for maybe the T. seladonia.
Scientific Name: Avicularia minatrix
Common Name: Red Slate Pink Toe Tarantula
Type: Arboreal
Location: Venezuela
Diagonal Leg Span (DLS): up to 2.5-3in (7cm)
Growth Rate: Medium/Fast
Life Expectancy: Females (10 to 12 years) | Males (2 to 3 years)
Recommended Experience Level: Beginner
Described by Pocock, 1903 The Red Slate Pink Toe, is known scientifically as the Avicularia minatrix, is a NEW WORLD arboreal dwarf tarantula from Venezuela. This is the smallest tarantula in the Avicularia genus, only growing to about 2.5” inches in size. In nature, this species tends to make their homes in the Bromeliads and can be found in the coastal regions of Venezuela as well as the areas near Maracay. In nature, 2 or 3 A. minatrix have been observed sharing on bromeliad making separate web tunnels in different parts of the same plant. Though it seems they tolerate living closely together out of necessity and aren't a true communal species that can be kept together in one enclosure in captivity. This species can be difficult to find available for sale and usually are more expensive than other Avicularia species, making it a VERY risky and costly to attempt to experiment keeping them communally. In fact, it is not something I personally would try or suggest others to do. Part of the reason they can be difficult to come across and expensive to purchase is because they have very few eggs per sac compared to other species of tarantulas. Typically there seems to be as little as 20 eggs per sac and at most maybe 40 eggs. That along with the fact dwarf species don't seem to be as sought after as larger species of tarantulas, there may not be a demand large enough to encourage breeders to constantly attempt to produce large numbers of egg sacs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unlike other species of Avicularia, Caribena, or Ybyrapora tarantulas, the minatrix is probably my most reclusive NW arboreal. I see my Psalmopeous species more than I see my minatrix. Mostly she spends her time huddled up in her web tunnels and rarely is out on display or walking around her enclosure. Which is a shame because they are such a beautiful species. Not only is this species shy and reclusive, but they can be very skittish as well. Mine will quickly bolt around its enclosure and dive into hiding if I happen to catch her out and frequently will run away from its prey when I feed her before actually pouncing on it and eating. This isn't a species I would attempt to handle, not because it has powerful venom, in fact it has been theorized, though not yet scientifically proven, that they have some of the weakest venom of any species of tarantula, and not because of the urticating hairs, as Avicularia species only posses Type 2 urticating hairs meaning they don't kick the hairs up in a cloud when they feel threatened like other species of new world tarantulas, the only way Type 2 urticating setae can be transferred is with direct contact. So if your Avicularia is rubbing its abdomen on you, it isn't showing affection, it is trying to rub off itchy hairs on you. But I wouldnt handle this species because it is so small and skittish. My concern is that because it is easily startled, it will attempt to bolt or jump and escape, become hurt, possibly even fatally. So this is a species I keep safely in its enclosure and am cautious when feeding and rehousing.

A long overdue update
Ok. I’ve did it.
The last update was a ver,y very, very long time ago.
It was a good one with lots of photos and stuff, good news overall.
This one.
Now. Some stuff happened, sad stuff some of you might recall that I don’t want to discuss here.
I was also occupied with the Half Marathon Beginner training program which was becoming more draining with each passing week.
Now with all of this behind, no hardcore training to do and running season at it’s end I’ll probably do more updates now.
What updates, some poor soul who sees this post by accident might ask?
Animal updates!
So now. Lets begin.
1. Mantises.
Mantids? Whatever the plural is...
Well... I have good news and bad news.
Bad news is... I had two more deaths. Atum passed away a month after Athena and didn’t even reach his adult form.
Case again unknown. he was eating well, doing just fine just... Not molting for a long time. When he refused food and started hanging on the top of his enclosure I was happy - suspecting he finally decided to molt again...
Unfortunately the next day I found him nearly dead - still hanging upside down from the lid. Did he wait too long and couldn’t molt? Something else killed him? I have no idea.
Another death was #4 - the most lively of the Blue Gang.
Here the case is clear - the mantis fell during molt. I tried my best to help but by the time I found it two legs were already gone and one of the remaining ones was unnaturally bent and useless.
The mantis actually ate a small roach when I helped it to grab it but it didn’t help. It couldn’t walk and died soon after.
Tumblr media
I fed it’s remains to one of my ant colonies - they are now big enough to handle such large food items.
Ok - this is all for bad news.
Good news! The remaining 4 mantises are alive and well.
#2 and #3 seem to be one molt away from adulthood and from the looks of it they seem to be Hierodula Sp. Blue as well.
Tumblr media
You can see a hint of blue on the tiny proto-wings they have.
Also - they are BIG. This is an adult cockroach they can handle for lunch.
I’ll provide more pictures in the near future but know this - one of them is already living in a “penthouse” - the one beautiful terrarium I’ve set up for my animals (in the future it’ll belong to one of my tarantulas).
2.Ants
I think I’ve mentioned the rehouse I did.
The two Manica Rubida colonies were moved to proper arenas. Nest building is currently underway.
I’m preparing a ytong nests about 10x10x7cm that’ll connect nicely to this:
Tumblr media
Cat legs for scale. In the middle is the old setup which now houses Formica Cinerea colony.
M.Rubida are both doing astonishingly well. There are new ants pretty much daily and I only expect the speed to increase.
There are deaths however - first, weaker generation is slowly going away.
From time to time I remove a dead ant or two from the enclosure.
Still - the numbers are increasing so it’s all good as the new ants are bigger and stronger.
Tumblr media
They (or rather their larvae and the queen) eat A LOT.
I can feed them once a week and usually give them 3 small roaches per colony but they could easily eat more. They dealt with the mantis above in about 3 days - this includes the time they took to eat the roach first (they didn’t know how to handle a mantis at first).
Formica cinerea?
Honestly I don’t know. There’s the first generation and I don’t see any new eggs or larvae. i am kinda worried.
I might try and make a 3rd setup or something... IDK.
Tumblr media
Also - they make a mess.
3. Tarantulas
Ok. The not-so-big guys!
They are all well.
Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens molted twice. She’s now L3 and good 3cm in legspan. She’s growing A LOT between molts.
Tumblr media
Brachypelma Vagans molted three times - this makes her an L4 and she’s also big... Not as big as the Chromatopelma above.
Tumblr media
This is the best picture I could do. Sorry - she is really shy.
Also. I was told they start changing coloration after 5th molt.
Well - either this count included nymph molts or I am getting a fast grower here.
Or it’s just not easily seen. It’s just a tiny brown spider and I got to see the red hair only on a few photos with a really good light setting from behind the spider.
So... Here it is. All of it... Right?
Well. You might be happy with this but my family certainly wasn’t.
Meet new additions:
T003: Phormictopus Sp. Green Gold Carapace
Tumblr media
A tiny sling that’s the most expensive spider in my collection currently. Still - only like 1/3 of what the Phormictopus Sp. Purple costs.
It’ll be a beautiful green-legged giant of a spider with (duh!) gold carapace. For now it’s a tiny bluish-green sling.
And I say it’s going to be a giant - out of all my spiders it’ll grow the largest.
I’d have to get a Theraphosa or Lasiodora to get a bigger one. Easily 20cm of legspan here for an adult.
And the last addition:
Psalmopoeus Cambrigei
Tumblr media
It’s both the smallest spider I owned (right now) and the only arboreal in my collection.
I wasn’t really planning on getting it but decided to get an arboreal to gain some experience with those.
Just so you know - arboreal tarantulas are faster and can jump.
it’s better to have some experience before you get an old world arboreal so...
TBH I was looking for some avicularia but the expo I attended had none.
Now - i don’t want you to think this is a case where I picked whatever when they didn’t have what i wanted.
No - I did look into Psalmopoeus genus and decided on this one “just in case” before attending the expo. It’s not an impressive spider when it comes to coloration but many people said good things about this species and IMO it does look nice with a hint of green on an otherwise light-brown body.

After several months of patience, my first breeding loan with my first mature male (RIP Lautrec 💔) has finally paid off; meet Lucatiel, Aslatiel, and Creighton!
It was a small sac (even by Idiothele mira standards) with a 50/50 split of the slings, which left me with 3 of the 6 total. There's still another female that has yet to drop or molt, so there COULD be more, but alas I'm more than happy to just get a few of my old boy's babies. Fingers crossed at least ONE turns out female.
The guy I did the loan with also tossed in a couple gifts - a little Avicularia ulrichea sling and an Avicularia aurantiaca sling! Adorable little things, they've been named Lyoko (ulrichea) and Aelita (aurantiaca).
